Let me add my vote that DT isn't important to a lot of men. I love oral, but depth isn't a big deal to me.
If you use your hands at the same time he will get a similar physical sensation without your needing to go deep. If you don't push, you can still gradually work your way up (down?) over time, but meanwhile if you are enjoying it more, he will be enjoying it more.
