Technically yes it is surprising as it should be quick like in the animal kingdom to spread the genes more efficiently. The basis of quick ejaculation is there but through natural selection of I guess desirable human behaviors (I have no idea how else to describe a relatively slower ejac in terms of natural selection lol) the slow-er ejaculation happens in humans. Maybe we have a mutation in the "quickness" gene relative to creatures in the animal kingdom?
