What I tried to do was form a synthesis, give an objective understanding,
which has failed abysmally.
Let me put it like this.
We are standing facing each other.
There is a number on the ground
between us.
I see a six.
You see a nine.
Whatever culture you are in, at whatever time you are in it,
that is your grundnorm; that is your basis. Everything comes
from that grundnorm. What you eat, what you don't eat.
Sex, marriage, what you do with dead bodies.
There is only the 'right' and 'wrong' of that grundnorm
to which you compare yourself.

As to Ravsoma; if you go on Skype, you will be swallowed
by Turkish men, all of whom are sicker than the one before.
All of them want to use their cams and show themselves
naked, or send you photos of their johnsons.
One sent me a photo and I responded;
"The last time i saw one that size I was changing diapers."Comment

That's where I see most of them! They call me out of nowhere and are like CAM SEX CAM SEX I HAVE A BIG.... fill in the blank. It really gets to me. They don't even speak English. Like a phrase or two and some swears in between. As to Ravsoma; if you go on Skype, you will be swallowed

I think this thread is completely awesome and bizarre.
Housewife, I applaud you for your beliefs, for sticking to them, and for not being swayed. You are also extremely articulate.
I personally know from a medical doctor that occasional anal sex has no physical ramifications (no pun intended).
You believe what you were brought up to believe, have embraced it, and for you it is the truth. Which is wonderful. The only part I am confused by is whether or not all Muslims believe that all non-Muslims burn in hell. I'm quite serious. I don't know if that is my ignorance on the subject or if quite frankly that is what you believe of all other religions.
I was raised strict Catholic, but I am not a practicing Catholic. And it is not because I've had premarital sex, which is forbidden, or have used birth control, which is forbidden; but because I find it a horrifically patriarchal religion in which the women are practically forced out; there is one central figure which is the Virgin Mary, and she is only revered because she birthed the son of God without being touched by man. We women birth our children, which should be a miracle of God alone, but in Catholicism we must hand over our children to for priests to anoint or the child is not accepted by God. I can't really stomach that my infant has sin unless a man says there is none. Especially when they are molesting children ALL THE TIME. Come on, people, watch the news, read a paper. ALL THE TIME.
I actually prefer Judiasm as a religion. My sister has a PhD in religious studies, we like to get our family all crazy talking about all the inconsistencies in the different religions. I also like to watch Joel Osteen, who is a Christian. But I don't feel I need to be saved, particularly. I just like the messages he puts out. My roomate in college was a newly saved Christian and looked down on me because I drank alcohol and kissed a lot of boys - but she was having sex with her Christian boyfriend every time I left the room, and then crying and praying on it all the time after. I wasn't having sex at all. So I found her a hypocrite.
I admire any person of any faith who has full belief in their religion. Fanaticism scares the daylights out of me, though, and I think also turns people off to many religions. Its becoming more and more of a central issue these days. You know, people thinking that overtly religious people are scary, and the fanatics actually being scary, lol. I find it to be so. But also do I think that our world today is becoming more frightening because people do not have a model to look to, to say, this is how you should live. Live this way and you will live a good life and be a good person. (Not necessarily that good things will happen to you, however.)
So Housewife, my hat is off to you. You have a book and beliefs that you base and model your life around. It simplifies things for you.
But wow, has that simplicity ever stirred things up around here!Comment

Ravsoma, I was talking to this great guy on Skype from
South Africa, and these Turks were sending me messages
which I was passing on to him, so in his 'introduction'
he has;
"All Turkish men will be shot on sight, survivors will
be shot again."
Another fellow, Bob, from England, with whom I also
shared said; "Well, I'm engaged to two of them,"
which was hysterically funny.
I met a friend of mine, Georgia, who actually lives
about twenty miles away, when we were 'gang
hailed' by these Turks and found ourselves in this
chat with about nine hundred of them, and cursed
them well and proper.
The best part, of course, is when we posted;
"WE ARE JAMAICANS, PLEASE DON'T SHOW US
ANYMORE OF YOUR LITTLE TINY WIENERS"

Excellent Post, Ladylane.
I have also studied religion and what I find
is that in Christianity there seems to be some
reason to erase the female influence.
Recently, people are considering that
Mary Magdalen was the 'beloved disciple'
and that there was a Gospel of Mary.
So I can always divorce the religion from
the 'political' influence on it; just as one
can divorce the practices of the Priests
from what the 'message' is supposed to be.
As to to hypocrites....
A friend of mine met a woman
who was very 'serious' about her
religion and at first decided to
end the relationship because
he wasn't a Christian.
Anyway, she belongs to one of those
Pentecostal Sects in which she can't use
makeup or wear jewelry or pants or even
a bathing suit at the beach and isn't supposed
to do anything worldly.
She had a baby for him.
He isn't even seeing her anymore.
Talk about hypocrites?

Lulz. Those Turkish men... Always wanting sex. T_T Sometimes I have to get out my translator and tell them that I already have a boyfriend and that I do not want HOT CAM SEX. Why must they have their penises in their profile pictures? Some of them look deathly.Comment

Glory to God and all his children.
It is sad to think the there are people in the world that will judge a country based on sites they go to on the internet. I do not defend the people that come across in a disrespectful manner. Nor will I judge the people that limit there knowledge based on books, websites and TV.
Have you ever had a Turksh pizza? The are quite good. Have you ever been to Turkey? On a visit to a couple countries in the "EAST" I had the luxury of stopping by and meeting some Turkish people. I never would have know that the people that I met were horn dogs from the other side. I guess I should have asked them what there "Skype" user name was.
It is nice to know that we can judge a race of many by the actions of few and in the same paragraph use the word "hypocite."
