Why do women have such low sex drives in comparison to men?

    I just don't understand it.

What's not to love about (safe) sex?

So why don't women generally want it as much as guys?

Sex drive is individual, not gender-driven. Just ask all the ladies on this forum who are down on their knees begging their husbands for intimacy.

I don't know if you're a troll or trying to stir up the pot, but a lot of women do want sex as much as men. For the ones with a low sex drive, they just haven't met someone that triggers their desires.

Women have low sex drives, due to:

      1) Being treated poorly in relationships

      2) Not being into their partner

      3)Being on medication

      4) Being under a lot of stress or fatigue

      5) Pretending to not like sex, so they won't look like a ****.

Please cite where are you getting your statistics from. Or is it just your opinion?

Careful, the last statement is just as stereotypical as the original posters claim.

Raising kids without extended family to support can be enough to suppress a healthy sex drive as well as other factors, some of which you pointed out. No need to place all the blame on any one gender. It takes two to tango.

I think Little said it best "Sex drive is individual, not gender-driven". And a low libido is not always due to the other partner.

Lol, that's a dilemma. Is there a third possibility?

There are some fairly comprehensive studies that do conclude that women's libido's are lower. I ran across them around the same time I ran across this site when I was wondering the same thing as you, ShakerMaker. After I found this site I somewhat abandoned that line of thinking. Men may generally have higher libido's, but I think that a woman's libido can be shot through the roof under the right circumstances. Maybe women tend to have a more reactive libido - needing triggering, as Magnetism said. Not all of them do though. Ours may tend to be more proactive? I don't know. But, as a man with a very high libido that has been with a woman who had one to match mine and maybe even exceeded it, I can assure you that women can be very desirous of sex.

Whatever the case, I believe the healthy way to view it is individually, as Little said. People are just different. Try to figure out if the woman in your life is just not into sex or if it's one or more of the things mentioned above that are causing it.

I wasn't trying to place the blame on any gender. I think it's normal for both men and women to have lower sex drives if they're in toxic relationships. The chances of their sex drive increasing is higher if they meet the right person that triggers their sensuality.

While low libido can be due to other reasons (like stress, depression or past trauma), I think it's important for couples to be aware that how they treat each other can impact their sex life.

EDIT: I do think societal conditioning is a huge factor too. Some women will say they don't like sex, but are the opposite in bed. Some women don't want to give off the "wrong impression." I know I have pretended to be prudish to avoid the consequences of admitting that I have a high sex drive.

Here are the facts. More women suffer from low libido compared to men when it comes to sexual dysfunction. That doesn't mean women with normal sexuality have lower libidos compared to similar men.

I didn't know this. The assertion in the OP's third question

"women [don't] generally want it as much as guys"

                  is true then?

I don't have a low sex-drive. I have a very healthy and active sex-drive. This all matters on the individual. I don't think there is any supporting evidence that says females have a lower sex-drive than men. It's just assumed because men wear their sexual frustrations and lusts on their sleeve for all to see. We women tend to keep to ourselves on such matters.
