Why do guys get so sleepy after sex?

I know that this is a guy thing, so I try to take it in stride. I mean, I get drowsy and relaxed after sex, but my boyfriend gets ZONKED. Especially when we make love at bed time, but even at other times of the day. It's a bummer because I like to cuddle and talk for a while afterwards, and he usually just can't keep his eyes open. Is it hormonal or something?

i´ve read that is because a hormone is released...it´s natural...

Orgasms actually mimic a part of sleep and chemicals are released afterward that encourage sleep. It happens in women too but most don't get as good of orgasms from just sex.

For me it's the other way around. I'd typically like seconds. It's like an instant, paralyzing coma though. I don't sweat it too much. It makes me feel like I did my job.

I usually have wonderful orgasms (though some are more wonderful than others), and I do get sleepy. Maybe it's just that I'm more interested in the cuddling and talking afterwards than he is, the bum. :-)))

The French call it "Le Petit Mort" or "Little Death" which makes it sound a lot more dramatic than it is. Immediately following orgasm and ejaculation, the hormone Oxytocin is released into the bloodstream. It is the combination of Oxytocin and the obvious physical exertion of sexual intercourse that causes a period of drowsiness. In extreme cases it can cause you to pass out completely but it rarely lasts more than a few minutes. While it is true that it affects men more than women it is a normal part of our blood chemistry and you shouldn't take it personally if your other half falls asleep as soon as he has orgasmed - he most likely can't help it at all. Just give him a few minutes to come around naturally.

Actually after sex my boyfriend is literally bouncing with energy and has the overwhelming feeling to get up and do something, anything. He gets so much energy that he can barely handle cuddling for too long. I, on the other hand, can get so worn out that I cuddle for a while and then turn over for a nap; or if it's night time to sleep the whole night through. If I don't get to the point of needing a nap, I get really light headed, don't walk completely straight and have a hard time voicing full and complete sentences.

Yeah, I'm wondering how gender-specific this is. I have had my fair share of naps, but typically I enjoy that time awake as it is the first time in days or weeks I'm not preoccupied with sex. There isn't much in the way of conversation as my wife is in a deep sleep. I find my mind racing, so it's great idea time.

Never happened to me! And I stay hard a long time afterwards, too.

Talk to him and ask him to stay awake for a little bit. I'm sure he will. Sex is a great relief and takes away the stress of the day. It doesn't matter how stressed out or angry I am, if my wife gives me a blowjob I am instantly relaxed. The same holds true for sex, especially at the end of the day.
