The old story about thinking with the little head instead of the big head. At least the small guys don't have to worry about losing as many IQ point as the big guys.

Is there research that shows that intelligence is linked to penis size? If so I'd love to see the data. Or is this simply a repackaging of the dumb jock stereotype.

I think there women are enough who use size as a major factor that many guys buy into the idea that larger is better. Maybe it starts from sports in high school and the girls who go out with multiple male athletes. Of course there are also the showers where comparisons sometimes are made.

That could be. I don't remember size being a subject of discussion among girls in my high school. Possibly discussions regarding sex were kept on the DL in school and left for off campus. I went to a Catholic high school. I also wasn't in the "cool" clique. I was a a band geek, though I didn't exactly look the part. Except for my glasses, maybe. The jocks did flirt wit me but often they came on way too strong and completely turned me off.

In general, I think a woman would have a better chance of finding a guy who knows what to do with what he has amongst somewhat older men because they will have had enough experience to hone their skills. Some young guys may be able to do this, but I would expect a lower percentage. I would also expect older men to be more likely to work on giving good foreplay to the woman and less likely to be worried about the woman being perfect in every physical trait.

Again quite possible. My pet theory is that "geeks" tend to be better lovers. They tend to be more willing to accept that they don't know everything.. And probably approach those things they don't know from a scientific point of view. In short, research and experimentation. Generally, I think men en tend to go with what "works" for them assuming that it also "works" for their partner.

It seems to me that (everything else being equal), different women will have different "optimal" sizes. I'm guessing this based on the wide range of sizes of sex toys available at sex shops that mostly cater to women. The most common (and presumably most preferred) sizes seem to (not surprisingly) be roughly average human size. I suspect that the importance of size varies a lot between women.

I know it can also vary with time for the same woman. My wife and I have a lot of sex toys. A while back she seemed to mostly enjoy the really large ones, now she definitely prefers the more modest ones. Maybe she initially enjoyed the novelty of something really large (after years of very minimal sex - but that's a different story), but gradually decided that modest sized was what felt best.

For the lesbian / bi posters who use sex toys with there partners, is there any pattern in what they like most? Is the "size" issue basically a male fixation, or is is shared by women?

Sadly after several threads here convincing men that size wasn't important, I expect a flood of responses to this one.

It is a joke...the running joke that men tend to think with their little head (their penis) rather than the one on top of his neck. I am sure there is some attempts, albeit extremely flawed, to tie penis size to IQ to place larger men as "better" but social science is hardly a science so anything you could find would likely be pure hokum.

I wonder if guys ever think that a woman is not worth the effort if she places such high emphasis on penis size. I mean us women will often write off a guy who thinks breast size is of extreme importance, that type of guy who is so superficial that it is not worth the effort. I am curious if men would think the same.

Personally if a guy is really large I tend to not like that at all, to me it looks abnormal because well if it is 9 inches it is clearly not the norm and hence abnormal. My SO is just over 7 inches, I have been hurt before, I have felt the cervix bumps and slight vaginal tearing from not enough foreplay. My SO is very careful with not bumping my cervix but that anatomy says it can happen from time to time....to me why in the world would I want to go bigger if 7 can hurt so much? That and to me the first thing think I of with a really large endowed man is...a pringles can....and I do not wish to have sex with something that resembles a pringles can lol.

For full disclosure, I have an average length penis and maybe a bit more girth than most. I have never had sex with a woman who seemed to be or said she was disappointed with my penis size. That is both before and after sex. If a woman said something about my penis being on the small side before sex, that would be the end of fun and games (or if she said something about wanting a large size, I'm not in the business of changing the mind of someone I just met). If it was after, it would be a case of one and done. The way a woman could hurt me is if she led me on and then sank the knife in after I was emotionally involved. I think I would have the same reaction if she was worried I was too large and that seemed to be a sticking point. I am what I am, at least when it comes to penis size.

About the little head, when a guy thinks sex will be available, he starts doing things that go in the direction of having sex, just what his little head wants. All of the logic, compassion, etc available in his big head seemingly vanishes. With some guys this doesn't seem to be a joke. BTW, I first heard of this from a woman (fortunately she was not talking about me).

The dropping IQ points comes from the amount of blood flowing into his penis isn't available to carry oxygen to his brain. The larger the penis, the greater the volume of blood needed. Thus a guy with a larger penis drops more IQ points. Yes, its a joke.

Good points, Corey. I have a problem with the constant drum beat of it's all about size. 15% of men are above average ( over 6- 6,5 inches depending on source) and 15% are under average (under 5-5.5 inches depending on source). The claim that a man must be well well endowed in order to please a woman seems, to quote Mr. Spock, "Highly illogical." That immediately excludes the 70% of men who are average. The 15% of men who are under average may be physically unable to please a woman depending on how far below average they are. This may be what Jen was referring to in her post.

I wonder if self-confidence could be an issue. If a man already considers himself to be inadequate to please his partner, why wouldn"t it be reflected in his overall performance. Thereby producing the expected result, the placebo effect.

I was being sarcastic. Because I know it's completely untrue. My husband is somewhere around 8 inches and he's quite intelligent. In fact, when we met his intelligence was the thing that grabbed me. He was someone I could have a conversation with without sex ever coming up. Unlike many of the guys I knew at the time. It's just like women using a guy's hand/foot size as an indicator of penis size.

Personally if a guy is really large I tend to not like that at all, to me it looks abnormal because well if it is 9 inches it is clearly not the norm and hence abnormal.

            I concur.

Honestly, it was never an issue for me when I wasn't sure where my husband fell on the c size continuum I fell in love with a person, not a penis. I didn't really think much about his size until his best friend (for 30 years, Best Man at our wedding) made an off hand comment to me about my being a very lucky woman a couple of years ago. I'm close to him as well so I didn't find the comment to be out of line. I know that there are "size freaks" out there, I'm not completely naive. I think the vast majority of women put more importance on factors other than penis size. I wonder if this is an indicator of general inadequacy issues. Also, I saw my husband's confidence increase exponentially, in general, when our sex life improved.

Even fuller disclosure: I happen to fall inside that 70% "average" range. 5 and a quarter long and 5 around, which I think makes me on the slightly shorter than average but slightly thicker than average list. Perferctly happy with my package, but I do think the optimum size would be 7x6. At that size you can't go wrong. Size queens couldn't say you were small and pretty much all women can handle one that size.

Funny thing about your husband's friend. I don't know the size of any of my buddies except that none of them claim to be anything less than "large", lol. I did have one friend say that while he's not big, he's larger than average when I told him average was 5-6 inches.

I can honestly say that I know nothing about how my male friends are endowed, and can't imagine how such a conversation would start.

As far as self-reported sizes: Guess how tall a coke-can is, then go measure it..........

They weren't comparing, He was estimating based on a brief, glimpse from behind, unaroused. I don't have a precise measurement, I've never measured it and my husband claims he hasn't either. The best estimate I can give is 8 inches possibly slightly more based solely on condom size. We use Magnums and he told me standard condoms were at least a half inch too small.

Personally I think guys who brag about their size and/or prowess are exaggerating. Possibly trying to make up for other real or perceived inadequacies

Another friend of mine also claims to be "large" and once in conversation he mentioned that a 14 inch unit would be "about twice as big" as his. So he's aprox 7 inches based on that. I have also seen Magnum condom wrappers at his house so I know that he uses that size. But I've tried Magnums on myself, just out of curiousity. I'm big enough to "fit" although the Magnums were a tad loose so its possible the grip of a vagina might pull it off during sex which would be a terrible thing. But it didn't fall off my penis the way a sleeping bag would. Standard condoms are quite snug on me...I guess thats the biggest proof that I'm "average" sized or perhaps even a little above the average girth. But I only have to roll one down slightly more than half way to cover the length, lol.

Also Magnums and other XL branded condoms aren't any longer than standard condoms, they're all about 8 inches. Magnums just have a bit more width to allow for the thicker guys.
