This is a form of slavery. The slaves are usually indentured by their parents or someone who kidnapped them.
I believe that in all countries, a prostitute who was protected by law against slavery and other crimes would make a reasonable living in the local economy. In some poor economies the barter would be for the necessities of life: food, clothing and shelter, but they would be enough to take care of a family.I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience.

Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot?

Prostitution is generally more common in places that it is legal or at least is not prosecuted. It can have a highly corrupting effect in most societies, whether legal or not.Legal or not, not much will change. The business will still thrive.
There would seem to be no good reason for sex trade earnings to enjoy tax-free status, but nigh impossible to tax it. After all, who in their right mind is going to voluntarily report to the government being a sex trade worker and their earnings? I suspect it's a cash business. Not many accepting checks or credit cards and not many customers wanting to pay by such means. Most hookers' income statements probably do not show an allowance for doubtful accounts.
Reporting prostitution earnings could make for some interesting tax returns. An imaginative CPA could no doubt come up with many write-offs to lessen the tax burden. The obvious deductions would be overhead related to the premises where the business is carried out, including all or a portion of mortgage interest, property tax, insurance, utilities, etc. Then there would be "office supplies", such as condoms, lubricants, etc. Some deduction for clothing could perhaps be allowed. Advertising expense would be a deduction.
How about the prostitutes body? Plainly it is a business asset, used to generate income. Perhaps tax authorities should allow a maximum capital value of, say, $1 million. Then, one would have to select a depreciation method. One possibility would be straight-line over, say, 20 years, providing an annual deduction of $50,000. Some difficult questions might arise, such as whether the cost of a boob job is a capital expense subject to depreciation, or a business expense that may be deducted in the year incurred.
So, with a bit of creative accounting, a prostitution business could be shown to run at a loss, with the loss forming a deduction against other income.
I would not say that it is nigh impossible to tax. Simply require the legal money exchange to go through an exchange house. The exchange house doesn't have to have the names of the buyers of the services. Use some of the taxes taken out to police the business and drive tax cheats out of business or far underground by legal action such as jailing criminals. I don't think Nevada has an illegal prostitution problem where legal prostitution is available.
Protection for the prostitutes from unruly clients would be required. The ability to say no to a client would also be required. However, if the contract required that which was said no to, the contract would be void, either fully or partially, and as such some money would be due back to the client.
Would a prostitute be able to refuse a client who had bad hygiene or crabs or such? How about someone who was oversized? A safe work environment would require some sort of protection against normal hazards.
Depreciation is an interesting question. Is a prostitute at the top of the game at the youngest age possible? I think learning how to service clients makes being a bit longer in the business valuable. Can an athlete take depreciation for losing ability with age. How about a professor or anyone who has to use their brain for work?
Can an athlete take a deduction for the cost of bulking up their muscles? Can an actor or actress take a deduction for straightening their teeth or nose?
Why give prostitutes deductions that others cannot get?I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience.

If prostitution is legalize they can test the women take the drug element out of it.They work in cat houses like in they do in Nevada. Plus then the women are playing taxes they keep the money but pay so much to have a room to perform there services. They be safe and out of the elements and away from the pimps using the girls as sex slaves and keeping drug up.The problem they arrest the women they really should be arresting the pimps they are the very evil person in all of this enterprise. When out driving always turn left. Then, should you become lost, you can find your way home by reversing the procedure and always turning right.Comment

Then, should you become lost, you can find your way home by reversing the procedure and always turning right.Comment

If she cannot refuse, then she is enslaved by the system instead of an individual or group of individual. Most would not say no if they were making money, but some might. Certainly if there would be a injury caused, a prostitute should be able to refuse. Maybe a prostitute should be able to refuse something like anal sex. How about ethnicity? If all ethnic groups are required, why not girl on girl or boy on boy action being required? For the prostitute's personal freedom of choice, I believe that the right to refuse for any unstated reason should be preserved. If the reason is stated, then the prostitute could be prosecuted for discrimination.
People rent out there bodies all the time as athletes and and other types of workers (yes, their brain is part of their body.) Does that mean that they are required to do non-standard tasks? Does that mean that they cannot refuse even a standard task? Yes, they could be fired. A person going to a prostitute who refused could go somewhere else.I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience.

Well never being a prostitute I can't answer all your questions,, but I'd think anything short of being tied up and beaten can't be refused...If she cannot refuse, then she is enslaved by the system instead of an individual or group of individual.
