The whole catfish idea was started out by what seems to be a (fake) meme about keeping live cod in good condition by shipping a natural predator in a container with them and the "predator" was the catfish. It seems the whole idea was a whopper. I would be interested if anyone has any good information if it could be true, because I'm convinced it is not.

The idea is that a fake person with fake identity is much better at pulling people into an internet conversation. And this is better for the people pulled in. In other words, it is better to live in a fantasy built on a web of lies than live in the real world. Someone has been smoking too much of the expensive stuff.

Well yea some who do this wishing they had these other people life's. But they can't because they look like the size of a bus, because they never leave the house to get out and exercise.So they spend all day on the net talking and using others IDENTITY as there own till that person wants to meet then the panic sets in they have to run and hide then.

I honestly can't think of anything more boring than to be online pretending to be someone I'm not and then to have to remember all the lies....a very sad person indeed. Just proves though that if you lie it eventually catches up with you.

You got it Romy it really is, that's what happens. This person has no life they can't socialize with others one on one outside of a computer screen. So they steal a life with pics of someone else. Make this all up to get people to like them till the lies start to come undone then you are done so then they run off or like Patti get banned for a site for these lies.

It appears to be one of two things. Either to befriend people by being someone else (and get their jollies when someone falls for it) or to just to be annoying and prey on the sincerity of those who want to help or learn from others. It's disheartening, but as CW wrote in another thread, we still need to take people at face value until proven otherwise. The trolls tend to ignore forum rules or just good decorum.

There's a whole 'culture' developing around this, and it's not just limited to the internet. Check out the show "Catfish." That college football player who had the fake dead GF was a catfish victim.

The typical role of one of these people in more common terms is often to extort something from someone. People who come to internet forums just to troll under a fake identity are a subset of them, but luckily they're fairly harmless in that role.

Me and wife like the beach there maybe put that place on are vacation places to try one day thanks Elena. Oh yea you look very lovely Elena, but you do have a little to much clothes on for the beach there lol.

I definitely would recommend Portugal as a holiday visit for you and your wife. If you want beaches go to The Algarve in the south or Nazaré in the west. If you want culture I suggest go to Porto or Lisboa. Hope you do go there I think you will enjoy, certainly better than Spain

Well thank you Elena, I am writing these names down me and wife enjoy the off the wall places. Rather then the busy commercial place that many people go to. We been to Spain before was at the club med there about 15 years ago Dom Miguel, Spain it was nice but we like to try other places. I heard Portugal is beautiful as well plus not so crowed like some places in Spain are. I know me and wife enjoy the sites on the Spain beaches wow is all I can say lol.

Well yes that's right Jen, it's not like having a stalker to worry about. More of just plain rude and senseless to waste time being someone you are not. Now that college player from Note Dame that was just plain evil thing to do to someone that all that was. My daughters got me hook on to that show Catfish on MTV this pass year.
