    I don't.

The studies that have been done on this show the incidence of bisexuality as higher among women. Off the top of my head it's still only 2-3 percent, compared with around 1 for men.

There was a recent study writhing the past couple of years that dug into the reasons why women are bisexual. It was interesting. According to this study, women who were less attractive were more likely have relationships with other women than women who were more attractive to men. I understand that to be more an issue of availability than gender fluidity, like what men in prison do.

That is an interesting study finding. I've known some very beautiful women who were bi or lesbian. And many who were definitely of average attractiveness. <br />

I think there's a stereotypical image of lesbians as being more manly, appearing as men...truly not the case in my experience.

Of course. The study was dealing with large numbers. It's not about every woman, or even just physical attractiveness. It looked at things like education, marital status, and whether or not there were children. Being a single parent, less education, and singleness were all more likely amongst bisexual women. Women who married young, had more education, and didn't have children out of wedlock tended to be heterosexual.

I guess the way I'm thinking of it, being "at least a little bisexual" to me doesn't mean a person wants to have a physical same-sex relationship, but that they response sexually with some degree of arousal to people of their own gender. I don't have any doubt that a woman who becomes aroused at same-sex porn fits that description, even if she would never pursue that kind of activity physically. Of course you can't put every single person into any kind of box. That's not what I'm meaning to do. There are many social pressures that influence how people are willing to describe themselves. But I think there are objective things you can consider that point to a conclusion that far more women have same-sex inclinations, if not outward expressions, than most people realize. Maybe I'm just engaging in self-validation, which is certainly possible, though I don't really feel the need to do that. Just curious about life and the world around me.

No, cathygirl, I definitely think you're on the right track. Sometimes I wonder how much of it is an actual attraction for the opposite sex, or just an attraction for sex/sexual encounters/sexual situations in general.

The study sounds interesting, but I wonder about the demographics/location of the subjects. If you polled a large percentage of the midwest (bible belt) you'd find a larger number of women who married young and didn't have children out of wedlock and also women who either aren't or would never admit to attraction for women even if they were. The same goes for men in this area. Additionally, there would be generational differences at play. People in my parent's generation would've been much more likely to marry young and experienced adulthood during a time when it wasn't "okay" to outwardly display any type of attraction for the opposite sex. My generation is much different.

There may be an effect from society's acceptance of bisexuality in women. Imagine getting drunk with a bunch of friends. Two nominally straight women kiss each other. I'd sort of expect laughs / amusement from the others. If two guys start kissing I bet a number of people are shocked.

for the record, I have no objections to guys (or women) kissing, but I think on average casual bisexuality among men is less tolerated.

No I don't think most women are (though I get how men want to think we are) and for me personally the idea of going down on another woman makes me sick. I can appreciate an attractive woman but have no sexual thoughts towards her. Would it not be the same as saying aren't most men a little into each other? Why would women be any different?

Oh and if I've ever come across porn with two women together I'm bored to tears yet find what two men get up to fascinating.....

Not I. I want my woman to want me and me alone.

As far as I can tell, I have no sexual interest in men, and I'm pretty open minded about a wide range of sexual activities. Women being attracted to other women is inexplicably exciting to me, and I would have no problem with my wife having a female lover as long as that didn't decrease her time with me.
