Fear of Androgel contact
My husband recently went on Androgel. We have two young daughters. I am in constant fever of it being transferred to us. He puts it on in morning before work on his back shoulder and is gone for 8 hours and Home all day on weekends. I have a fear of touching him, laying on sheets, touching towels, washing his clothes. My daughters are alway hugging him, jumping on in his back and sometimes lay in my bed after he leaves for work. I feel like our life is changing for the worse. Am I being over paranoid, please tell me of your experiences and things I can do to make our environment a safe place again. Thank you in advance. -
The warning are clear that women/children should not use this product, however it is used as a patch if I'm not mistaken. The transference of the product will be minimal on clothing, sheets etc while he is wearing it. The problem may arise if the patch comes off in-noticed and the area isn't cleansed properly. There might be some contact at that time.
I do feel that you are being overly cautious but if you are this concerned, please have a discussion with your husband, tell him how you feel and ask him to be extra careful.
Is there not an injection that he could take instead?
That which we forget may as well never really happened. -
Ok, you need to calm down. I have been on Androgel for 2 years. The ONLY time there is a threat to others is when it is wet on the skin. I do mine in the morning, and it is completely dry in 5 minutes so much that I can put on a shirt and there's no sticking to it. So unless your kids or yourself are standing in the bathroom waiting to touch him the moment he puts it on, there is no risk. It's transdermal. That means it is absorbed by the skin, it doesn't stay on the skin. Hope this helps. And I hope your husband feels better, I know I do.Comment

Yes, the op is being paranoid: as KC says above, Androgel is, well, a gel that is absorbed through the skin, dries quickly, and instructions say to only apply it to areas covered by clothing, also that transference is virtually impossible after 2 hours.
As for the shots: I now do the shots, once every 10 days, because they are much more effective for me at least, and because they are enormously less expensive! Approximately 1/20th the cost!
And while not a fun thing, giving yourself a deep-muscle injection, it's not particularly painful. I do it to save $600/month while maintaining my health.
Considering this can be a big health issue, she needs to get over it; I remember when I first started taking testosterone treatment, my wife was very much opposed and I couldn't understand why. It was only after we'd talked about it several times, with her always very much against it, that I learned she thought it was going to make me want sex more often!Last edited by Texasred; 01-24-2018, 11:42 AM.Comment
