Ah well, what religions think up and what your body does are often at odds. It all about guilt and control or control through guilt. But if you buy into it you have to live with it and so does your body. The explaination that it's a systems check is pretty good one why not go with that? No guilt, if G-d designed you and designed your body to work that way, there's no problem.

Actually, if you study the bible closely, female masturbation is basically harmless. It's the wasting of the male seed that's considered the greater sin. If you restrict the discussion to the Old Testament (the body of Jewish law handed down by Moses), a healthy respect for one's natural appetites is encouraged.

Just don't commit adultery (that is, as a wife). That one's punishable by death. The underlying message is that the male patrilinieal line must be protected at all costs. The only exception is if the husband finds himself impotent or otherwise unable to father children, it's OK for the wife to have sex with the husband's brother. It's all right there in the Bible.

Richard, you very succintly, made a very valid point. The point is that people need to use their brains to interpret the Bible in today's context.

I am a Christian, and I do believe that the Bible is the word of God. However, I also believe that it was written by humans, and has been interpreted into many languages (english included) by conservative Biblical scholars over the years. I can't help but think that their interpretation is also a communication of what they believe God has ordained them to interpret from the bible (that may or may not be what God actually intended).

In a like circumstance, the Bible has been passed down from generation to generation. Each one studying it more and interpreting it more. If you don't believe that, then just look to see how many versions of the Bible were available 100 years ago versus today. An english version of the bible varies from another english version of the bible in terms of who interpreted it, and for what purpose...right? Ie, the Catholic version of the bible is different than the King James version, which is different from the NIV, and the NRSV, etc.

The reason I mention this is that the original poster is very concerned about how her body is reacting to God-created phenomenon. There is no question in her mind that God created her and designed her body to work this way. What should be questionable to her, at least from my perspective, however is whether or not the Bible can be taken straight, word for word , and whether she should "repress" or "supress" her body's natural "God designed" functions, on account of a strict acceptance of a many-times interpreted Bible.

He also said to "be fruitful and multiply".

There is really only one passage in the Bible that singles out female sexual behavior.

Romans 1:26: For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature.

There's a long history of conflicting interpretation of this passage. There are some Bible scholars who will back up the idea that St. Paul was condemning certain Greek and Roman (Pagan) practices, mainly the fact that women were allowed to have ritualized sex during certain temple ceremonies. Imagine that, celebrating sex as a sacred act. Can't have that, now can we...

Paul was a Roman who never met Jesus - I've never understood why his word gets such priority but this isn't the place to discuss that.

Many people still regard sex as a sacred act. If done with respect and caring it should always have a degree of the sacred or at least be a lot of fun! Religion has turned it into a duty and a chore to be performed for reproduction or steeped in guilt.

WildChild. Good point, but take it a step further. If people did start following that stuff, the Christian Right would issue another "INTERPRETATION" of the bible with that passage selectively "clarified", because they are "SURE" that this is not the way God intended it to be perceived.

This is how we got where we are in the first place. God made us sexual people. He made it feel good to us. He made it fun! If he intended for us not to masturbate, he would have made our arms shorter! Come on! He made us this way so we could "enjoy" our sexuality. Our bodies are meant to be treated nicely and enjoyed. He made them beautiful so we would feel good about ourselves and be attractive to others.

If he wanted us to use our sexuality for procreation only, he wouldn't have made it FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The vagina would have been made without a clitoris and sex would be as enjoyable as shaking hands. Guys would have the equipment but it wouldn't feel that good, so we'd have to be motivated by our ladies going into heat or something and we'd only be interested in it during those times.

That is not the case. We see eachother and it turns us on! It's MEANT TO by God! He designed us that way!

Your religion is stup1d, and doesn't take into account what you are.

If you want to fight the constant battle to follow it's rules, that's up to you, but they are unrealistic and outdated morals thrust upon unwilling subjects who don't know any better than to disregard it.

You don't talk about your religious beliefs in that you feel that you are being immoral, you seem more concerned that it goes against your religion, with your religion being a FACT of your life rather than a decision.

Please consider your religion, and figure out if it is really worth you surrendering your life and your autonomy to it.
