I've learned that sense of humor is important. It's a lot more fun being around someone who can laugh at themselves.

Can't stress communication enough. He doesn't have to be able to read my mind, but at least be willing to sit down and discuss problems and be willing to work them out. It also seems to work a little better when at least one person is good at making decisions and not vacillating.

Find someone who accepts the fact that relationships take *work*! It's very difficult when the person you're with thinks that if everything isn't exciting and fun every moment of the day that there's something wrong with the relationship. I've heard him say numerously that he knows they take work, but when the dark days are upon us, his usual course is to find a way out...

I would say this is my first seroius relationship. I've really understood how it feels to love someone for better or worse. This relationship being very emotional for me. I love him so much and I love who he is and how we are together. We're not perfect but we're both learning and growing. It's been 1 yr and a half. What I've learned is to let the little things slide,be more patient, loving to them and very understanding...Not that I haven't been this way before. I just realize that some relationships need more of that. I realized since i want my fiance for life I realize how much i have to learn but what i love is he will learn with me and we can learn together. If you can find someone who loves you for you are. To me that means LOVE.

I've learned that being 'real' with eachother is more valuable then being perfect for eachother.

I've learned that you cannot truely love someone unless you love them with their faults.

I've learned that if you let your feelings for someone be dictated by the opinions of others, you never felt that strongly for a person in the first place.

I've learned that, as many have already said, communication is key to any successful relationship.

I've learned how important it is to say what you mean. More times than not, it is better to be straight forward and leave no room for confusion or future excuses.

Love is Great, but it can hurt.

Unfortunately people make mistakes, but if you chose to forgive a person and continue with a relationship, you have to leave the past mistakes in the past.

Always follow your intuition, because if not, your only settling.

Be a risk taker, or you may have missed out on the perfect partner.

It's a two way street and alot of work, work it and be equal.

Look for core values and morals that are the same as yours or it won't work.

Remember chemistry is exactly that and once ignited, you expect exclusivity, so don't ignite it until you know the above is possible.

Be on the same page sexually, or it will die.

Never forget that a man is the same as a woman, that being that they also like to know they are loved and sexy.

Communication is the key to everything.

Laughter is a must, after all it creates best friends.

A relationship is about best friends, lovers, & partners in crime not one but all.

If you think you can or you can't, you're probably right.

There is always someone out there at least as good as your last relationship.

Love isn't all fun and games. It's hard work, too.

You and me both, but it's pretty much what I've sticked to for the past 3 years...

The only thing I missed was "soul connection" the "love of the inner person", that to me is the most important "key" to the beginning of any relationship

If he won't change, leave. Don't bother wreaking havoc on your way out ... just GO.

Long distance relationships: they don't work for me. If you can do it, good for you.

Find someone whose needs match yours. If you want to be with the other person 24/7 ... find someone who wants to be with YOU 24/7.

If all else fails, exchange other human beings for sex toys, friends, and pets.

uhhh, let's see..........one of the most important things that I have learned is to communicate (like other posters have said). You'd be surprised at how many conflicts can be easily avoided if both people communicated with one another. I used to hear that time and time again, but until I had to really deal with it myself, I never truly understood how important that word really is!
