Tooconfused gave you some VERY good advice. He WILL be trying to get you back. But I hope you realize that this is not about love for him, it's about control, about wanting what he doesn't have. He has said some extremely hurtful things to you.... most people would know that by saying those things they'd be ruining any chance of reconciliation.....but he's so narcissistic that he thinks there should be no consequences for his actions. He's very clearly narcissistic. About a year ago I was a juror on a capital murder/kidnapping case in which the man (though cheating on his partner) thought his partner was cheating on him, and so he tricked her, and ambushed her when she walked in her door from work. He brutally and horrificly murdered her..............on a whim. And even as he stood in court, he was able to justify to hiimself what he'd done by saying "I loved her, and she cheated on me." (The saddest part, was there was never one ounce of proof she had actually cheated.....but he believed she had). So to a narcissist, to be done "wrong" is the ultimate sin because they see themselves so far beyond everyone else. He believed she had done him wrong, and it was punishable by death.

Is narcissism an excuse for your poor excuse for a husbands behavior? No...and let me point out, the defendant in this case was diagnosed with "narcissistic personality disorder and OCD" but was declared mentally competent to stand trial. Meaning, his diagnosis was no excuse for his behavior.

    Here's some info:

Hotchkiss identified what she called the seven deadly sins of narcissism:

1.Shamelessness - Shame is the feeling that lurks beneath all unhealthy narcissism, and the inability to process shame in healthy ways. (He doesn't feel the least bit bad about cheating, about leaving his wife and children, or what he's put you through. He will "feel bad" only when it's convenient for him in order to try to get you back.

2.Magical thinking - Narcissists see themselves as perfect using distortion and illusion known as magical thinking. They also use projection to dump shame onto others. Sound familiar? Take a look at the last text he sent you. He's trying to shame you, to make you feel like a bad wife for even hypothetically moving on with your life EVEN though he cheated more than once, and left you and his children for another woman.

3.Arrogance - A narcissist who is feeling deflated may reinflate by diminishing, debasing, or degrading somebody else. "I hope you don't bore him as much as you did me" along with some of the other degrading and insulting things he's said to you about you since all this went down. He has regulary tried to diminish your self esteem.

4.Envy - A narcissist may secure a sense of superiority in the face of another person's ability by using contempt to minimize the other person. He basically says "Its okay for me to cheat and to leave you for her....but it's not okay for you to move on." Why? Because HE is superior and by minimizing you, he maximizes himself...or at least he thinks he does.

5.Entitlement - Narcissists hold unreasonable expectations of particularly favorable treatment and automatic compliance because they consider themselves special. Failure to comply is considered an attack on their superiority, and the perpetrator is considered an "awkward" or "difficult" person. Defiance of their will is a narcissistic injury that can trigger narcissistic rage. This can get very scary. Because no matter how wrong he does you, no matter what horrible things he says to you, he is entitled to have you back when he wants you back, because he's "special" and thinks because he's "special" there should be no consequences to his actions. If you don't agree, he'll accuse you of being difficult, of giving up on your marriage, of not loving him, etc. And he may get very angry.

6.Exploitation - can take many forms but always involves the exploitation of others without regard for their feelings or interests. Often the other is in a subservient position where resistance would be difficult or even impossible. Sometimes the subservience is not so much real as assumed.Self explanatory....

7.Bad Boundaries - narcissists do not recognize that they have boundaries and that others are separate and are not extensions of themselves. Others either exist to meet their needs or may as well not exist at all. Those who provide narcissistic supply to the narcissist are treated as if they are part of the narcissist and be expected to live up to those expectations. In the mind of a narcissist, there is no boundary between self and other.
See how this works? Even though you were a good wife, loved your husband, are a good mother...... if you don't do ONE thing a narcissist wants you to do, then you are in a sense worthless to them. Because you're there to make them happy. Or at least thats what they think. Hence the "why didn't you light candles " bla bla bla, etc. If you rejected him for sex once, out of 5 times in which you said yes, you are worthless and this in his eyes totally justifies him having sex with someone else.

This was incredibly long. Sorry for that. I just want you to be able to remain clear during your moments of weakness....to be able to talk yourself out of the dark and to realize the severity of what you're dealing with. But most importantly, to realize that what you loved was the man you thought you had, not the man you truly had. The man you truly had is not worth the breath it takes to speak a sentence to him. And once you're able to resolve yourself to that, the healing part will be so much easier. More hugs and prayers coming your way!!!!

Wow! An amazing summary of the narcissist. Spot on, I'd say.

I have never really seen narcissists as particularly dangerous people. Not sure her husband is. Certainly hope he isn't. But that is a little alarming...especially in view of his most current stalking/peeping/unlawful entry activities.

Certainly provides food for thought for all of us...because we ALL know people like that...

Please be wary. The spying and stalking is scary. If you have Any reason to think he is lurking around call the police and tell them you think someone is lurking on your property or that there is a peeper on the property. Don't say you think it is your estranged spouse. Talk to an attorney, Get whatever is the equivalent of a separation agreement, that's what my state has as a preliminary part of a divorce, it defines responsiblities and limits for this time that you aren't divorced but are no longer together.

thank you for that beautiful disaster,I see what youre saying and yes,he´s totally enraged because he´s lost control of the situation now.....the fact is that if you would expect any stalking ,texting, nasty words,it would be coming from my side, but since she´s come over I have left them totally alone to get on with it....perhaps he was expecting me to be going round and causing trouble and its bugging him that I havent. When it first kicked off,one night when we talked he said that I was such a good person and was handling this with such dignity and that he really respected that. And I´m continuing to do so but its obviously getting to him now.I´m pretty sure he wont be asking to come back,he says he is totally in love with this woman, and I´m sure, whether I meet a new man or not,he´ll eventually cool off and just concentrate on her. Two weeks ago, when he said there was definitely no way back, and left,my friend came round as I was in bits and she was worried about me.She phoned him frommy house and just asked if she could go round and talk, and he refused, said no,whats done is done. Well today she had a phone call off him, saying if she still wanted to talk then he was ready,so she said no,its too late and hung up on him.I guess he was trying to get information out of her,but what a nerve, after two weeks! Thanks again for all the support...will keep you posted on the latest!!

Are you prepared for the fact that he most likely WILL be asking to come back? Don't let yourself be in denial. Men like him are so disgustingly predictable. What is your plan?

she said no,its too late and hung up on him
Good for her. Give her a high five for me.

Sprucey he keeps coming back and forth because you provide some of his needs and she does too. So he has the best situation all of his needs are being met by two women. You have to decide if you want to make his life so convenient for him in view of the fact that he is treating you so cruelly. He thinks he is the only one holding the cards in the game of liars poker but that's not true. You have given him all of your aces! You hold the cards but you don't know it - he needs you to keep the relationship with the woman going. Without you, a large part of his needs will not be met and he will have to depend on this woman.

You must cease all contact with him, don't listen to his lies about loving you, he does not love you enough to to not hurt you repeatedly. If you limit communication to the financial agreement separation and kids, he has to depend on her for all of his needs. If they are compatible it may work out. Since they don't know each other, it is unlikely. If you let him he will be coming back and forth in you life for a few years until he finds someone else to entice him away. Do you want to be the fall back woman a temporary stopover who will serve him because she loves him so much, till he finds some other excitement to get into?

This relationship is flawed deeply, it probably was when he cheated before. He said he was unhappy and was probably concealing it from you until someone suitable came along. If you take him back when he has finished with this woman and needs a place to stay, you will always be in a position of weakness, you will want to do what ever you can to keep him no matter what he does. The more you give and receive nothing, the more he will take what you give as having no value because he does not have to work for it. Do you want to live

Or you can pick up your cards and play them for the big payout. You get to leave a man who takes you for granted, does not love you enough to treat you like a human being with feeling, does not value you, has used as a temporary way-station for all these years, is unable to resist temptation. You get to find someone else when you recover. You say you love him, no, you loved the side of him he revealed to you, do you really love this self-absorbed person?

Why are you letting the sex references slip by - he started it now you give it back - if there is one area that you have the definite advantage is question of his skill as a lover as the root of the sexual problems!! Let him know that if he were a better lover you would have responded with more enthusiasm. Tell him you are looking forward to finding someone YOU are really hot for. Tell him he was good for a father and provider but the rest was not enough to get excited about, and you are sure you will find a man to light a fire, hence the candles.

Then tell him that you are not asking about his sex life so why is he interested in yours. Tell him you know what she is getting so don't need to ask and you hope she doesn't find some hot man and trade up. Very possible with a woman who has no problems cheating, after a few months with him she may get restless with the quality of sex like you did. But wish him good luck and suggest a book or two on love-making because he is after all the same lover who could not hold your sexual interest.

That will give him some food for thought. Men can not face the fact that a woman who does not want sex with him will have satisfying sex with a more compatible man. Woman are always blamed but the man's bad skills are never considered. Woman don't say anything even when the man says something bad about her performance. The protection of the fragile male ego is almost inborn. But you can beak out of that cage easily.

You have no reason to keep pulling your punches, remember in the the arena of sensitivity to sexual performance you are holding a full house (keeping with the poker metaphor), he is much more vulnerable than you are but he does not expect you to hit back with that obvious advantage. He launched the first salvo now send it back. It's Ok to hit below the belt in these circumstances no reason to be a refined lady with him, you are not trying impress him now, you are teaching him what you are made of. If he gets angry, tell him to stay off topics that he can not tolerate hearing the truth about next time and keep to his own business. He has enough to be concerned about in the sex arena with this new woman he need not concern himself with you now.

Always look good when he comes by.

Wow, this is just what I was thinking as well, but didn't know how to put it.
...and I agree that he will most likely be coming back and asking you to take him back, especially when you do move on and find someone else - being the kind of person he is showing himself to be, he will not be able to accept this; and he will once again want what he can not have.

Get that restraining order also - anyone who would be capable of breaking into your home after what has occured, is someone to be concerned with. He definately has some issues.

This is a "grass is greener" fling, and she will soon see what he is really made of.
But don't you wish Karma worked quicker?

Well, had a call off himwhilst driving home yesterday, and ignored it,since then no more nasty texts thank goodness.I think he is beginning to get the message.I have to say that he is,and always has been, very highly sexed, which is obviously why he does all this.....we did have a good sex life, and he is a good lover,it has to be said, but after working all day and 2 children,I wasnt always in the mood, yet he was, most days.I know he should have more control, instead of jumping into bed with the first woman that comes along, but I do think thats why hes trying to turn the blame round onto me....and he actually admitted the other night that ´what makes me mad is that youre going to be giving to some guy what you didnt give to me´ Which ok,maybe not EVERY night, but is absolute rubbish, because our sex life ,though routine at times could be quite exciting. He honestly thinks that most couples whove been together 23 years are making love on a nightly basis...which I´m pretty sure is not true!

I think most of the men here would tell you that if nightly sex with their spouse was a prereq for faithfulness....... most all of them would be cheating right now.

Hun this is not about sex. I know that's what he seems to be focusing on (because he's shallow and anything else would require much deeper thinking.....) but it's just like ANYTHING else. A man who wants to cheat will cheat, whether he's getting sex every night from his wife or not. Then he'd blame it on something else "well..if you hadn't gained that 10 lbs....I wouldn't have gone to her." , "Well...if you hadn't taken that extra job...I wouldn't have gone to her." , "Well....you got sick....what was I supposed to do??" , "Well, you pay more attention to the kids than to me....."....etc etc. He's a narcissistic cheater.....it will ALWAYS be something and he will ALWAYS be what is most important to him. Honestly, you could analyze him until you're blue in the face, but what it comes down to it............YOU are worth SO much more than this, than ANY of it.....you need to know that and your children need to know that too.
