I started taking birth control for the first time in July, and I was put on Yaz. Before this, I have never had a problem with not being lubricated enough "down there". When I started trying to have sex with my boyfriend after starting this pill, I noticed I was very dry and we couldn't even have sex at all. At first, I thought it was just a fluke, but then it kept happening over and over again and I decided that it must be my pill.

I have tried lubricant, which seems to be irritating to my skin. I don't know if it is just this one brand or not though. I want to call my doctor and schedule an appointment so I can talk to her about this, but I have been away at college, and have had no success with sex since I started this pill 6 months ago. We take the time to sufficiently "warm up" beforehand, but still no luck.

At this point, I think that my problem is also becoming a mental thing because it has been so long. I am beginning to tense up in anticipation of pain because that is all that has been happening when we try to have sex. My drive has also seemed to decrease.This never used to happen before, either.

I just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem with Yaz, and what I can possibly do to fix this. I know it is a low dose pill, but is it still possible that these effects are from the yaz? I feel so horrible, and I know I'm a bit depressed because it is so discouraging to want to be intimate with my boyfriend and not be able to.

That is actually a problem and known side effect of most birth control. BC can decrease your sex drive and the amount of lubrication. Of course, few women have the opposite results. You may want to try a different brand to see if there is any improvement. Otherwise, there is little you can do aside from not taking BC.

It helps to drink a LOT of water every day. Getting that "8 glasses" plays an important role in your bodies abillity to lubricate. Avoid excessive salt and caffiene as they dry out your body. Drink more water, not juices or sodas. Many drinks other then water have sodium (salt) in them even though they taste sweet.

When you are going to have sex, relax, don't think about the "what ifs". Make sure he gets you well worked up and ready. You need a good amount of forplay to get you really wet. Doing things to help keep you excited throughout the day will help. For example, playful flirting and thinking sexy thoughts. It will help keep the lubrication flowing.

Get plenty of rest and eat well. Being tired will decrease your sex drive, thus lowering lubrication. Same thing goes if you aren't eating well.

Keep stress levels down because it will kill your libido and your lubrication. If you find yourself stressed, figure out a way to destress several hours before having sex.

Try different types of lubrication. They contain different ingredients. Some of which you may be allergic to. Try KY Jelly (you can buy it at the grocery store). It is the most widely accepted and "user friendly".

i have been in yaz for a month and have low sex drive and no to minimal lubrication i have taken other pills and did not have this problem... you need to swich.... sex is to fun....

So,I am into my second month of Yaz.I have been on birth control for about 5 years,and this seemed new and seemed like it would work,because i felt i might have PMDD.I am not on any other medications.I hardly even take advil.
The first couple of weeks on yaz felt normal.I seemed a little more gitty.My monthly "thing" rolled around,and i had cramps more then i usually do..and it was late by a couple of days (which is normal for a new pill)...
BUT.....
Going into the second month i feel like im alot more talkative,and not in a good way.I cant really stop myself in conversation and repeat myself.Almost like im "tweeking" or "speeding".If this 'Yaz' is suppose to help against PMDD,or being depressed,you would think it would have some type of anti-depressant in it right.Not sure if they list it,but from what i tried finding,they dont list anything like that....

OKay so ill get to the point..

im not a depressed person at all..and when you give a NON-depressed person a anti-depressant,even at a low dose (for someone that doesnt take anything else)..theyre going to act hyper..right.YEAH!(or is some cases become depressed when theyre not previously.)
i understand yaz is ment for PMDD,or when you feel a little moody before the monthly "thing".but that doesnt mean we're all depressed and all need to be popping pills like zanax..just trying to prevent babies.

i just feel like somethings up with this stuff.and i plan on stopping after my month is up...

i also read in forums,that girls were having a lose of sex drive,which is a common side effect of depression,which could be a side-effect from yaz..these girls are getting depressed because theyre taking a anti-depressed when they arent really depressed,just moody from there period..!!!

main question here is:
wondering if anyone is having the same side-effects as me..???

Yaz control

Both my girlfriend and I have been on Yaz now for a couple months. I was having problems with my previous birth control because I'd been on it for close to 7 years (your body will eventually start to reject, or ignore, the BC when you take the same hormone type that long).

My girlfriend was suffering very much from PMDD. Sadly, too many people still think that little mood swings before a cycle count as PMDD. When things like that get advertised on TV and radio, suddenly everyone has it! PMDD is not little mood swings! It is much more serious and invasive. My girlfriend was completely ruled by anger in the week before her cycle. She's on her second month of the pill and so far, she hasn't tried to destroy anyone/thing. She has, however, experienced a significant decrease in libido.

I have noticed that Yaz has made me much more sensitive to foods and drinks that contain salt (sodium). One of the side effects of Yaz is a build-up of potassium. If your body has an excess of potassium, you don't really need much salt; about 250mg is really enough. So, if you're getting more sodium than that, increase your water intake. Also, if you drink pre-bottled water, check the labels because a few still have sodium.

So, in conclusion, there is a reason Yaz comes with a user's manual. Read it. This is not your average birth control.

Problems with bleeding on Yaz!

I have been on Yaz for over a month after switching from a B/C that I have used for years. I heard that the first couple of months your period becomes sporadic but I have had a light period for twelve straight days in a row. Was wondering if anyone knew if this was normal or if they too have experience this.

Many problems I beleive to be linked!!

I have taken Yaz for over a year now and didn't put all of my little problems together until recently. Needless to say I have quit taking Yaz! It all started with a huge brown spot on my forehead (mask of pregnancy), then a few months later I started having really bad leg cramps. Then one by one other little things that were unusual started to surface. All that I beleive to be linked! At night my right ankle hurts for no reason, I've put on a significant amount of weight, I have a hard time when I have to use the bathroom "holding it in" until I can get to the restroom. When it's time for my period it isn't any shorter, I'm no less bloated, it's just as painful and it definatly isn't lighter. All the things Yaz claims to help! I can't wait to have this BC out of my system so that my body can get back to normal. This is by far the worst BC I have ever used and there should be more warnings listed in the prescribing information!

Yaz works for me

I'm sorry to hear that you are all struggling with Yaz. For me, it's been a minor miracle! My constant facial acne is now completely gone, I've lost weight, have a two-day (at most) period that is pretty much cramp/bloating/pain free. I'm a LOT nicer to people (although I have everyone at work fooled into thinking it's because I switched departments and no longer report to the mega-b*tch in my old department). And fortunately for me, my sex drive was a little high in the first place, so I find myself in a very healthy balance. It's great!

I can say it took a few months for it to really kick in and get to the whole "2-day period" schedule. And I took a month off in May, which was a HUGE mistake as I spotted for nearly the entire month while my body tried to figure out what the heck was going on. I definitely don't recommend doing that. That was not fun, nor was it comfortable.

But overall, user error aside, it's been a positive life-changing experience for me.

My neighbor tried it, and sadly it did not work for her. Different strokes for different folks, I guess?

YAZ nightmare

I switched to Yaz in July after being on Yasmin for as long as I can remember. The only good things I can say about it is it did prevent me from getting pregnant and my cycles were shorter (3 days versus 6-7). However, those were minor victories compared to the nightmares I encountered.

The mood swings started right away. I have always had a lot of emotional control. I felt almost bi-polar. One minute, I was the happiest person in the world, which is my usual mode, but then I would become either aggravated, frustrated or upset about the smallest things. That was the first change I noticed on the new pill.

My first cycle last two weeks and was a serious inconvenience on my honeymoon, considering it came a week late. My subsequent (two) cycles lasted 3 days.

The emotional aspect was very uncomfortable for me, but the BIGGEST issue was the weight gain.

I exercise regularly. My husband is a professional athlete, so we spend 10-12 hours a week working out. We do not eat red meat or pork, and in the summers, we are really big salad and sandwich eaters. With the heat, we prefer to eat lighter. Still, I gained 12 pounds in 2 months.

I was tired all the time, short of breath. . .even small task seemed to take a lot of energy to complete.

After my second month, I went back to see my doctor. A routine physical came back with positive results. He did blood work and everything came back normal. He asked me to go another month on the bill to see if my body would adjust. It didn't.

Two weeks ago, I came off Yaz. I can feel my body 'returning' to normal. I have decided to detox for a month, before going back to Yasmin.

I know everyone has different reactions to medications. Everyone I know who switched to Yaz has since switched back to their original pill or moved on to something else.

I have been on Yaz for two months now and have never felt like this. I feel sick to my stomach all the time, my back hurts and i am having craps which I have never had before. I have talk to my doctor and she is switching me back to Ortho-Triclene which I have been on for years.
Seems that this is all normal for Yaz. At least I was told!i have talked to other woman in my work group that have had all kinds of problems with Yaz!
Then the other day I talked to a girl that was 6 weeks pregnant and had been on Yaz for 4 months and Ortho-Triclene for 6 years before that. Something that they are not telling us (her doctor told her) that when you switch to Yaz from another form of birth control it could take up to a year for it to be effective. Scary!!!! Don't want to alarm anyone, but this girl took her pill everyday on time and still got pregnant.
