Hi all. I had Essure done in September 2004. Hadn't really had any issues with it. Lately I've been having a lot of pain and thought it was due to cysts. Had an ultra sound done today and it showed a build up of fluid around the Essure sites - particularly the right one. Can this be what is causing my pain??? I'm at the point of wanting them to TAKE MY JUNK OUT because I'm so tired of this... I had no idea it could be the Essure - FIVE YEARS after having it done... Anyone else have any experience with fluid??

It seems like many people are having various problems with Essure. I had Essure implants put in on July 2, 2009, and about 1 week later, I had constant cramping in my pelvic area as well as intermittent sharp pains. I also developed back pain, constant headaches, and nausea. I felt awful. I had ultrasounds and CT Scan done which all showed proper placement of the coils. Fortunatley, my doctor listed to me when I told him that I wanted them removed. He was reluctant to do it since he had never done it before, but I had them removed on 8/31/09. According to my doctor, they were properly placed when he went in there. They were able to remove the left just fine, but I had to have my right tube removed. You do not need a hysterectomy in all cases like some doctors will tell you.l I did my research and corresponded with a doctor at Harvard medical, and I convinced my doctor not to do a hysterectomy as he initially recommended. The day after removal, my back pain, cramps, and headaches were gone. They told me the right side did not have as many adhesions as they normally like to see. I feel much better. So, I say you need to stick to your gut and do what feels right for you and make informed decisions. I am glad that I did the research and did not go with the hysterectomy. However, I am fertile again now. So, it is my husband's turn to do something.

I had the essure procedure done in July of 07. The doctor was quick to suggest it and was just as quick to give the benefits (I'm now thinking there are a lot more risks!) of the procedure. When I went in after the procedure for my yearly exam in 08 I was having some discomfort with intercourse and at that time he told me I probably was having infections during ovulation and put me on antibiotics which did NOT help the situation. Now in the last 6 to 8 months I have been having pain, along with a mass on my right side during my periods. It starts on the first day and ends a few days afterwards. I went into my GP and she told me "if you shove things up there you are bound to have problems" (don't think I'll be going back to her) and sent me in for ultra sounds. The doctor that came in and read the US felt that it was a lymph node. I am also still have pain with intercourse at different times of my cycle that is even worst than a few years ago. I really think it is being caused by the essure so NOW I have to find a new GYN to explain all of this to! I really just want these things out of my body! If there is anyone thinking of having this procedure I would suggest they do A LOT of research before going ahead wiht it.

I had the Essure procedure done in April. It was more painful than I had ever imagined!!! I cried the whole time. I just had the 3 month dye test yesterday, which also hurt, and it showed that neither tube is blocked!!! In fact the coils aren't even in my tubes. When I asked where they were she told me that they are probably in my Uterus but we will have to wait until I talk to the doctor on Wednesday to know for sure. How am I supposed to wait 5 days to talk to someone??? Has anyone ever heard of this? I have been crying all night and I am not sure who to call or ask. Can they be taken out now? To make it even worse..... my husbands work is changing insurance companies real soon, so I am not going to be covered under the new insurance because this will be a preexistion condition.
Has anyone ever had them removed from the uterus? Is it even possible to do without a major surgery? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I am sorry that you are having problems. I think that if they can find the metal coils in the uterus that they can be removed hysterscopically. I would get a 2nd opinion on anything that you do at this point. The doctors do not seem to want to admit problems with this procedure. Make sure that they can tell you where the metal coils are. I know that you are upset right now and I hate to upset you more but the metal coils have migrated out of the fallopian tubes and into the abdomen. Research and make them find out where the coils are. Make sure that you are comfortable with leaving them in if that is what they suggest. Don't let them push around. The info about migrating coils can be verified and yes despite what they tell you, the procedure has more problems than they will admit. They will make it sound as if you are the only person in the world who has had trouble.

Erin78, Sorry you are having problems. I don't know if the problems you are having are related to the metal coils. I know it upset you for your GP to tell you what she did but ladies she is right. No medical person I talk to with the exception of the ob/gyn doctors really think this is a good idea. There is just too many things that can go wrong. There are no real long term studies. I thought my ob/gyn was looking out for my best interests after all he is a doctor. I never questioned the procedure because he said that is what I needed to do and that it was so easy. Try to find someone to help you before you lose your insurance but don't let them push you into doing anything without researching your options. You can click on my name and I can try and answer any questions that you might have or give you info on sites to visit.

                Pregnant with Essure

My best advice is to not have this procedure done. Yes, it is a simple procedure, but it doesn't work. I had my implants in for 6 months and I got pregnant. I have horrible health so this procedure seemed to be the answer to my situation. Now I'm 16 weeks pregnant with a baby boy on the way. Yes, the baby is coming but it has been a long couple of months. It frustrates me everytime I go into the doctors office and see their brocures. I wish that Essure would take some responsibility.

Update 16 weeks pregnant after Essure procedure

Ok, I am 16 weeks this week. I went to the doctor heard the heart beat 160 per minute... Hope its a girl. Want another girl. The idea has sooo grown on me and my husband we picked out names and everything. Going on the 30th to find out if it is a boy or girl. Doctor said I am doing great. I am taking it easy and I am trying to relax as much as I can. I am still worried about the springs have they moved out or can it hurt the baby... But so far nothing. So there is hope .... Too bad Essure doesnt work all that great! But.. At least I am sure I will have a healthy baby.

                    To Essurefailure

I feel your pain on the whole thing. I am sooo mad at the doctor who did this tome and how uneducated he was and how all this could have been prevented if he just would have agreed to do a normal tubal ligation. But essure should take responsablity! I called them and they said it wasnt their fault the doctor was uneducated in what to do after the proceedure. They find no fault in any of this. And it is frustrating and lawyers wont take the case because its too much money. And I wouldnt get enough in return to cover it. And I probably wouldnt see the money until I was like 60! But I am going to try and sue the doctor for being uneducated in this ! Corperations hide behind lawyers and leagle stuff all the time so they dont have to take blame if it doesnt work. And that is what Essure is doing I believe like you they should take blame. They are cowards and wont admit it is wrong and the FDA doesnt seem to think there are that many of us it is failing we are suposedly the .2% At least that is what I am told all the time. I wish you luck on your pregnancy. And hoep your baby is healthy!
