Do any of you ladies know where I can find plain unsweetened yogurt? In the grocery store the only plain yogurt I can find is Dannon, but it still has like 16g of sugar in it or something. I figured the kind I'm looking for would be labeled as 'unsweetened' but is the normal plain stuff what I should be looking for and it still has a bit of sugar?

I want to try mixing some of my acidophilus tablets in with the yogurt and inserting it to help rid of this stupid infection.

On a side note, the doctor I've been seeing for a year, the vulvovaginal specialist, has officially given up on me. In the state where I live, this doctor at the medical school is the best I'm going to get, so it sucks. He wants to refer me to someone else, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to be done with doctors.

Some of our supermarket own brands have no sugar but that's in the UK. Have you tried a health food store?

Yes, I did try a health food store, but the closest one is just a very small, locally owned shop, and all I could find there was plain greek yogurt.

I was just told that all yogurt will have sugar in it because of the milk. So I guess the stuff I'm seeing is what I'm looking for

I wouldn't worry too much, if it contains the bacteria you're after it shouldn't do any harm either way anyhow. Or you could just insert acidophilus capsules instead, or buy probiotic pessaries. Which method have you decided to go with first? Is it the vinegar douche followed by probiotics that you mentioned?

I'm going to the the hydrogen peroxide douche, followed by inserting yogurt, in which I will add one or two of my acidophilus capsules to, that way the correct strains are getting to the source. I figure even though it'd be messier, it'd be easier to mix in the capsules with something rather than inserting them and hoping the coating melts.

I won't be starting this under September though. I have another doctor's appointment in a couple of weeks and I want to have a few uninterrupted weeks for when I try this method.

[QUOTE=amelillo13;203533]Depressed10, were you told you have cervicitis, or just BV? When this started for me, my PCP said BV, but when I saw a gynecologist, he said Cervicitis and did 2 cryosurgeries which did not help my symptoms. That gynecologist never sent cultures out though. I saw about 4-5 different gynos after the fact and they all say BV even though nothing is ever on the cultures.

I was not told I had cervicits. When I went back in my cervix was fine. I also had a PCR (DNA) test done and they tested for Gardnerella, Trich and Candida. All came back negative. I don't really know if it's good news or bad news seeing as how this flairs up for a lot of other people. I have an appointment tomorrow so I will be talking to my doctor about the significance of the test result. I think there are a lot of other bacteria that they could have checked for but she didn't order that. So I guess the Flagyl got rid of the gardnerella.....I guess I will wait and see.

and yes, I was originally diagnosed with BV. I had one positive culture and all the rest were negative. I had the PCR test done..Recently, DNA probes have been developed to directly detect the presence of candida, trichomonas and Gardnerella, thus providing a more objective diagnosis. Since Gardnerella is a normal part of the vaginal flora, the DNA probe test is designed to be relatively insensitive, detecting only pathogenic levels of Gardnerella. The Affirm VP III Microbial Identification System (Becton Dickinson) is a commercially available DNA probe office-based test kit that simultaneously detects the presence of Gardnerella, trichomonas and candida. The Affirm VP III was cleared by the FDA based on a 510(k) application in June 1993

Sarah- I read you post- that's great news for you! So far as the premarin cream goes- I have been waking with my vulvae a much darker red color and a weird discharge like my body is trying to flush it out. It resolves in a couple of hours or so and I'm right back to my normal symptoms. I think I'm giving up for a while. I think I got my hopes up too high and I'm getting tired of being disappointed- It's too depressing.

Well, here's my latest update: in my last post I was a couple weeks into my duricef and hydrocortisone treatment and had noticed a slight improvement but nothing close to being cured. I refilled my prescriptions and did another two weeks of treatment--around the end of the third week, I noticed a major improvement in my symptoms, and the last three days of my treatment were about 99% symptom-free. I was ECSTATIC. On the last day of my treatment, I left to go on a camping trip, during which I was hiking and doing strenuous activities, which usually make my symptoms worse--but instead, I had no discharge and no irritation during any of it.

Then, three days later, my symptoms started to come back very slightly. At first it was just a tiny bit of discharge and a very slight irritation. The next day, they were both a little worse...the next day, worse still, and today...back to normal. I'm so disheartened.

I do believe the treatment was the right one for my problem, because my symptoms were minimal or absent as long as I was on it--it was a few days after stopping treatment that my symptoms seemed to come back as severe as ever. I'm going to call my doctor back and see what she thinks--maybe I just need to be on the treatment plan long-term, or maybe I need stronger dosages (I've read DIV can be treated with 100 mg hydrocortisone suppositories, but mine were only 25 mg). Either way, I'm both hopeful and discouraged and I'm not quite sure what to feel right now.
