Amelillo, have you given any more thought as to what you're going to do now?

Nope. It's been about a week since I've been to the doctor and I haven't received any phone calls, so I assume nothing grew out on the culture; surprise, surprise. I got my period the day after I saw the doc, so I haven't started the clindamycin cream because I rather start off strong.

I'm still taking the femdophilus once or twice a day, still taking my vitamin D supplements. Depending on how bad the discharge and everything is when my period is through I may try the whole peroxide douche thing before I start the stupid medication.

no bacteria found on culture - issue with cervix

I just had a similar problem. I was diagnosed with bv in June 2010. I had a partial hysterectomy in January 2010. I took Tindamax for 2 days. On the 3rd day I had to go to urgent care for a sinus infection. They gave me Amoxicillan. After taking that for 7 days, I started to get a grey discharge with the usual itching. I went to the obgyn and she did a culture. The culture came back negative for bv. My cervix on the other hand looked horrible. She said it was inflamed and it bled when she touched it. So because of this she gave me Flagyl for 7 days. My pap was also normal in June 2010. It is two weeks later and I have a follow up appointment with her on Wednesday. I had a lot of pain with this cervix issue. pain that radiated on both sides and down my leg. I was also in a lot of pain in my back where my kidneys are located. I will repost when I go to the doctor on Wednesday. I took Rephresh Pro-b while taking my antibiotics so I didn't get a yeast infection. I was also already on folic acid, b-6 and b-12. The not knowing when I will have a flair up is killing me.

Depressed10, were you told you have cervicitis, or just BV? When this started for me, my PCP said BV, but when I saw a gynecologist, he said Cervicitis and did 2 cryosurgeries which did not help my symptoms. That gynecologist never sent cultures out though. I saw about 4-5 different gynos after the fact and they all say BV even though nothing is ever on the cultures.

Anywho, I'm on night 3 of the clindamycin and honestly, I don't think I'm going to continue. I post on several websites and had a supposed obgyn in massachusetts somewhere respond to my post telling me that antibiotics will not help me (weird for a doctor to say) and that I need to find a way to increase the lactobacilli, good bacteria so that it can combat the bad. She suggested probiotics which I've already been doing, but I think I'm going to order some more since I'm about out, and then do the peroxide douche. There's another thread on this board about chronic BV and it explains how the peroxide is supposed to help good bacteria and then inserting the probiotics is just putting more at the source. I hate doing things without the supervision of my doctor, but since he prescribed me medication for an entire year, I don't think he'd be very keen on me doing this, so I'm just going to on my own. I need to wait a few days for these meds to clear, but I'll keep you guys updated.

I just dont understand why a doctor I've seen for about a year now just keeps prescribing me meds. I've been on like 14 different kinds or something stupid, and a lot of those were more than one course or for an extended period of time (several months). If it didn't work then, what's going to magically make it work now?!

Amelillo, did your doctor put you on clindamycin nightly for a year? For some reason I assumed he'd be crazy to do that and thought maybe it was once a week or something. I wouldn't blame you at all to feel weary of doing it for that long, I can't imagine that would be good for you at all. I've never heard of a bacterial problem taking a year of antibiotics to clear up. That's insanity.

I have tried the probiotics and the peroxide at the same time, and it helped temporarily but long-term it didn't do anything. So good luck!

No, it's not every night. I start out doing it every night for like 2 weeks, then drop it down to 1-2 times a week for the remainder of a year. Still, though, that's way too often for my liking.

Besides, he already tried this with Flagyl instead of Clindamycin before. I was supposed to be on it for 6 months, start out the same way every day for a week or two and then drop it down. I got 3 months in and then stopped it after I saw the doc...That didn't do anything, so I don't expect a year of clindamycin to.

I'm really debating taking Colloidal Silver, I've been reading up about it and if the information is to be believed it kills off all strains of bacteria, including ones they haven't got antibiotics for. I don't know if this information is genuine but it's not hugely expensive and like you said amelillo anything is worth a try. It can be use topically as well as internally too so I think I might get both kinds and try them.

I've also read things about colloidal silver, Sarah. That's one thing I haven't tried. You definitely need to be careful with the dosage and can't really use it long-term, but some people swear by that sort of thing. I have a co-worker who kept getting bronchitis or something and she starting taking the colloidal silver and was fine after a couple days. I also saw someone mention Bee Propolis on another forum. I have never heard of this and I'm not entirely sure what it is, but she said it cured her BV.

To be honest amelillo13, I wasn't told I have BV but I also wasn't told that I have cervicitis. Since they did the culture, I had to wait 2 days. Then the nurse called me and said that I was negative for BV but my cervix didn't look right. So they gave me the flagyl. I also had grey discharge, odor but this time a lot of pain. My back hurt really bad. Fast forward to today 7.27.10 and I am starting to get that pain again where my ovaries are. Not sure what is going on. No discharge or odor just a lot of pain. I use the rephresh pro - b probiotics and have been using them since I started taking the Flagyl which was about 3 1/2 weeks ago. And for anyone interested, I take a drug called Metanx which is used for some neuropathy in my legs. It is given to people that have diabetes and neuropathy....although I don't have neuropathy. It contains 3mg folic acid (3000mcg), 35mg - B6 and 2mg - B12. Just thought I would mention this on the post just in case someone wanted a prescription strength folic acid. It was about 54 dollars for a 30 day pills if you don't have insurance. Just an FYI. I have an appointment tomorrow so I guess I will repost after I find out what's going on.
