I also didn't think it was my period because there was brown goo-like stuff coming on the toilet paper when I wiped. It didn't seem like normal blood.

In case you're not aware, period blood doesn't have the same consistency as the blood you would get from a cut. It tends to be thicker and gooier.

Is this discharge? Is it old blood? Someone please let me know.

Let me clear this up for some people...

Brown spotting and Brown discharge are two different things.

Brown spotting is a sort of pure reddish to dark brown liquid that well, 'spots' your underwear like any other liquid would. It typically happens before, during or after your period - reddish spotting signaling the beginning and darker brown, the end.

Brown discharge is a creamy, gooey substance much like egg whites, with a slight brown tinge to it. It can occur at anytime but is more noticeable in between periods and is usually the result of a minor infection - which will occasionally happen and the vagina is usually capable of resolving it on it's own. (If the brown discharge drags on for a long period of time and is the only thing that comes out I would consult someone.)

White discharge is your vagina's natural cleansing process that happens on a regular basis.

For me it is hard to differentiate between White and Yellow, and mine has always had some kind of odor so I don't get to concerned with it.

If your discharge is Green, call the doctor.

Hey there,

I kinda need someone to shed some light on my situation coz I'm really clueless as to what's happening. To give some background info, last month, on the 19th and 21st, I took the morning after pill coz the condom broke on each occasion >_<. And then my period (although it was lighter than usual) came a week later around the 28th when my period should be due only on the 8th of February. Now, for the past 2 days, I've been getting this brown sticky discharge (no odor, no itchiness or anything), and I have totally no clue as to what it is. I've read that it could be old blood but my period's been over for so long so I'm really confused about what it is.

i was having very light spotting after my period .. now its been like 3 weeks and im light bleeding ... me and my bf always have tons of sex.. no protection ..never goten prego for 8 months now ... dont know what is wrong... i feel like puking but dont all day long sometimes ..other days im perfectly fine .... my breast look normal .getting a lil heavy but no pain ... i feel bloated ....but i think its cause im bleeding ..im 5,4 ..135 lbs so whenever its that time of the month i swell ...need to know possiblitys ...

Im on contraceptives and missed a day on thanksgiving weekend and although i was still taking the pill i had cramping and what seemed like a discharge (this was last week) and this week i am suppose to have my period i had slight cramping monday.. yet its basically the same as last week. and yes i am sexually active .

it just doesnt seem like a normal period ..
