brown discharge?
Hi, I am 14 and new to this site. I got my first period last month, but I didn't think it was really my period until my mom saw my underwear one day. I didn't think it was my period because I am not really that developed (meaning curves). I also didn't think it was my period because there was brown goo-like stuff coming on the toilet paper when I wiped. It didn't seem like normal blood. But then, 2 days into my "period" there came normal brown/red blood but STILL WITH the brown gooey stuff. Now it just happened again, about a month or so later. There is red blood, but also brown substance. Is this discharge? Is it old blood? Someone please let me know.

It's kind of like spotting, and it's perfectly normal ... especially during your first few periods.<center><i>Nature gives us shapeless shapes,<br>Clouds and waves and flame,<br>But human expectation is that love remains the same,<br>And when it doesn’t, we point our fingers and blame.</i><br><a href="http://www.womens-health.com/boards/register.php">Register</a>|<a href="http://www.womens-health.com/boards/members/little.html">Contact Admin</a>|<a href="mailto:support*womens-health.com?subject=Forum Contact">Email Admin</a></center>Comment

I'm 32 now, but I remember the same thing from when I first got my period at 12. The blood wasn't anything like I expected and I was barely developing in any way yet. I think we all experience puberty quite differently as far as the order of what happens. My breasts started developing shortly after my period started and my hips came many years later, but some of my friends got all curvy a year or two before their periods started. I really didn't expect to buy pads before bras, either, but our bodies often remind us that we are individuals.Hi, I am 14 and new to this site. I find I get more brown than red when I'm dehydrated, drinking lots of water is so important (at all times, but especially when on your period since there is so much fluid leaving your body, I think. Not an expert, just my own observation). Eating a lot of fruits and veggies helps me, too. This is the stuff I REALLY wish someone had mentioned to me years ago!Comment
