    Hi Reginag910,

If you read over all of the posts, everyone is different. All i can say is what i have experienced. After having the mirena implanted, i bled for a few days to a week and then I didn't bleed at all. Some people mention that they still have periods and some say that they haven't had a period since having it. Some say that they bled for a few months with erratic periods but it evened off and then they would get light bleeding for a few days a month.

I would recommend you giving it a little time for your body to get used to it. If it continues, you might want to talk to the Dr that put it in.

If you read my post above, you will see that i am having mine removed after 12 years. I guess i want to see how my body is without it as well as seeing if any of my unexplained side effects i have been having for several years alleviate after it is removed.

I wish you all the best,

    Bonnie

        Hi Memebridges,

Did your GP give you any reasons why he/she wouldn't remove it?

I don't know much about the copper coil but as it looks a lot like the mirena coil i had removed yesterday my guess would be to contact other medical centers in your area and see if any other GP can take it out.

Call up some clinics and ask the receptionist which GP's can remove the coil (I am not sure where you are from but you probably want to ask the cost or if they bulk bill). As I said above, I had my mirena removed yesterday and while I was at it I had a pap smear - kill two birds with one stone. If I wanted something done and my GP wouldn't do it, i would want a very good reason why and if I still wanted it done, that GP wouldn't stop me.

        Good luck,

        Bonnie

Hi All, i just want to say that thank god i found this site, i had the coil fitted last march and thinking about it i have really down since about then i started looking up side effects for the coil as my periods last about 10-14 days although they are light still annoying then it stopped for a week and started again, so was thinking of getting coil removed anyway, quite a while ago i was put on the mini pill but was taken of it because it changed my mood and i had no sexdrive so after a while i had the coil fitted but i did not know it could cause depression, i have got such a short fuse with the kids (i adore my kids) and i want t feel happy being around them that this is really upsetting, i have had a stressful year but i am normally such a laid back person i feel so tightly sprung that i could just go mad at the smallest thing i have booked an appointment for next wednesday to have it removed so hopefully will be feeling much better xx

              Hello,
My first time on here. I am due to have a mirena coil fitted later this month. After reading all of these comments i am so concerned about this.
I have suffered with bad, heavy, long periods since i first started. My Consultant says i need a laparoscopy and a mirena coil, if this does not work, then to have a hysterectomy.
i am on strong painkillers for the pain, as when this occurs i am crawling around on all fours, screaming in agony. I do have 2 fibroids (found out recently).
I find myself to be very tired, can't stand the thought of sex as it hurts, hot flushes constantly, just feel my insides are being pulled out of me. Any advice anyone?????

                Hi ladies
I had the MC fitted last april for heavy bleeding. I bled every day 8 months. I still have a monthly period, lighter yes, but still for over a week. I also bleed most of the time in between also, smears, not blood. I have been twice for a smear test but as I am always bleeding so they have been unsuccessful. My weight has gone up and stayed up. My moods are scary sometimes. My sex life, well lets not even go there.I have decided to wait until April, a full year. Reading posts on this board and other boards about women having EXACTLY the same side effects CANNOT be a coincidence, can it? I was on Tranexamic acid before I had the coil fitted. I was really happy with the pills, they did exactly what they were supposed too, with no side effects. I was also told that I could not use them indefinitely{hence the coil}, but I have read that some women have taken them for between 4 and 6 years . I am 46 and don't need contraception {hubby has a vasectomy) so I really think I will get this coil out. I never feel comfortable knowing there is something inside me.

In 2008 I had the mirena device implanted. It lasted 2 months in me and then came out during a heavy period in a massive clot. In those 2 months I gained 10kgs and couldn't figure out why when nothing had changed in my lifestyle, I still exercised and still ate the same. I looked bloated, like you could push me over and roll me down the hill - it was ugly and not me at all.

Anyway, I had another one put in within weeks, but that lasted about 1 month and like the first it came out during another heavy period in a huge clot - the pain on both occasions was indescribable, like labour pains.

I gave up on Mirena, the only benefit for me with the device that I really noticed was no mood swings the week before a period - that's all. My gyno said the mirena doesn't cause weight gain, but here I am living proof. I lost those 10 kgs within a month of the second one expelling - so that says it all. It's 2011 and I'm facing a hysterectomy because I've tried everything else and this is now my only option - and boy! am I looking forward to being free.

The Mirena is horrible for me

After my son was born I went down to my pre-pregnancy weight (213) with in 2 weeks postpartum. I got my IUD at 6 weeks postpartum. I bled until I was 3months post. After the bleeding stopped I thought I was in the clear. I wasn't. To this day (7 months after placement) I still get cramps weekly. I am now on depression medication, I've put on 15 lbs, I am tired all day but can't sleep at night, even with melatonin and ambien and I have mood swings.

For three weeks now I have been on a strict atkins diet and workout with a trainer 3 days a week and I have not dropped 1 pound. My husband is on the same diet with no exercise and has only been on it for 2 weeks and has lost 15 lbs. I followed the atkins lifestyle from 4th grade until senior year of highschool. So, I know what I am doing and as far as diet an exercise in general. I come from a family that is so obessed with it that my sister has been working on her own book for some time now. So I know my workout is fine for me. At this weight and with my diet and exercise I should be dropping a bare minimum of 3 lbs per week.

I've been in my midwife's office twice now and they refuse to believe it is the mirena, however, all medical reasons were ruled out with my perfect lab results. Now they want to weight 2 months to rule out diet and exercise issues and then my midwife will pull my mirena.

I feel like I am a prisoner to it. If I could only pull it out myself. This is a big reason I hate it. Having to get permission to take out my birth control feels like it's against my rights as a person. Why do I need to explain myself to anyone? If they will give women abortions with no explination then I should be able to change my birthcontrol w/o going thru what I am. Its embarrassing.

Oh and I've been getting a foul smell there but I don't have any infections. Hmmm. I think the mirena is at fault again.
