Get information on the mirena coil

    HI

I really want anyone who is thinking of getting the mirena coil to be informed.

Research it and make up your own mind, especially if you have breast cancer in your family.

I had one fitted a year and a half ago and it changed my personality, i got it out straight away as i knew the hormones were not doing me any good.

I am not trying to frighten anyone as for most people it is probably safe but my mother had breast cancer and now so do i, i was not told of the potential risk.

Breast cancer can feed on progesterone too which mine does and mirena mimics so if you have a family history look into it and ask lots of questions.

As i say i am not trying to frighten anyone but information is power and i have to pass this on as it may stop someone getting it that might have a reaction.

      mirena coil and Thrush

Hi (excuse me for gate crashing )
My wife had the mirena coil fitted approx. 6 months ago. I the past 3 months she has had thrush twice. She has never had thrush before.

We were recommend the coil rather than pursuing the vasectomy which we were planning.
If the thrush is to be a regular occurance then it will be better to have it removed and go back to the original plan. Has everyone else had this side effect?

      thanks
      Spence

Hi! I work as a secretary for a gynaecologist and he swears by the mirena... So much so I got one put in myself for heavy irregular periods. I did notice an increase in weight and it was confirmed that it can increase your apetite which would account for the weight increase...

With the sharp pain on sitting down the coil could of become embedded or perferated the uterus - so it would be a good idea to ask for an ultrasound scan just to check it's in the right place.

For the menopause symptoms try Red Clover if you haven't already... It's perticularly good for night sweats. Should be able to get it from a herbalist or natural remedy store.

        Hope that helps

Breath of fresh air you all are ladies. I have had the mirena coil fitted for 9 years with weight gain, low libido, more annoyed at little things. As already said I've been told it's me not the coil to get over it. Think I shall also consider getting it removed so can anyone recommend other good birth control as I have two beautiful girls but don't want anymore. I'm 39. Thanks ladies.

Migraines, Weight Gain and Back Pain

Hi, first posting for me so hope I am doing it right. I had mirena fitted 7 months ago and experienced a whole range of side effects. But because every time I went to my doctor she would say it is not the coil, I started to get really worried that something was very wrong with my health!! So it is a relief to be able to read your postings and learn that so many of you are experiencing the same symptoms as me! First of all, I put on lots of weight, about a stone in 7 months, in spite of being a very active mother of two with a relatively small appetite. My breasts are huge and my stomach is so swollen I look 5 month pregnant. The other side effect that has been crippling my life is migraines, which I never ever got before. Without fail, I get them for four days before my period and, as they come with dizziness, tiredness and nausea, they are really debilitating. Besides, I have started experiencing back pain, especially in my lower back, and some days the pain will not leave me from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to bed again. Finally, anxiety and depression regularly hit a week before I am due. Again, my doctor said that the mirena would help me with my PMT but, although I cannot say this has got worse than it was, it certainly hasn't got any better. Also, I don't know if any of you feel the same, but I find really weird not having periods any more, although I do realise this is not such a big deal compared to other side effects. Basically, my experience with the Mirena has not been positive and I am seriously considering getting it removed. Although, speaking with other women, they have had a really positive experience, so I think it is very much individual.

Have come across this by sheer luck. I had this coil fitted nearly 5 years ago. And have had nearly all the symptoms you have all said about. The weight gain and looking 5 months pregnant gets me down. I always weighed about 8 and half 9 stone ever since its been more like 10 and try as I might I cant get any lower than 9 stone 7. I used to eat anything and not put any weight on. Im always tierd, no get up and go, bad heads, thrush is constant. And have no sex drive. And we wont mention grumpy. The worst part is slowly over the 5 years I am losing control of my bladder, doc says that is because I have had 2 children. What rubbish I never had a problem till this was fitted. In fact apart from really heavy periods i had no problems before this.
I was put on this as my peroids were that heavy I was anemic. I'm going to see the doc to get it removed, he must be able to do something else for me.
