I just like variety. It's a nice change but not my favorite position. I feel like I don't get enough skin contact and that is a big thing for me. However, even though we start out doggie, we end up flat lying on top of each other (him on my back of course). And that I really likeFreedom is just another word for nothing left to lose - Kris Kristofferson and Fred Foster (sung by Janis Joplin) -
I agree that variety is good. Depending on the mood I like different positions, and there are some that I like but my wife doesn't particularly enjoy, and vice versa. People shouldn't do things that they REALLY don't like, but if you have a lover who is attentive to your needs, I think its good to also do what they like, not just for them, but to enjoy their response.Comment

Let me clarify my advice on the word please. It's to be used to show her how much you enjoy whatever it is she's already doing to you. Not to be all pathetic and weepy "please let me do you from behind please please please." No. Used appropriately, it'll give her a sense of control when she's in a submissive position like doggy-style (god I hate that name, it's where the problem really starts. I think I'm going to rename it...The "Right" Angle? I like that. Double entendre.). If you're having sex and she's allowed you to take her from behind, maybe you've let her move her body against you for awhile, the word please is used for emphasis, not a request. It has been done in a way that shows her you are craving what she's doing to you because SHE'S the one that's doing it to you. Thanks for all the answers.
v) I personally don't want use the word ''please'' in the bedroom. It makes me feel like I am begging/asking something for me. I would get a sense that we are doing something for the sole purpose of my pleasure; something I find morally objectionable.
I can see how you construed it the other way as I failed to separate it from the implication of my previous statement that you should ask rather than state what you want her to do you. That was meant to be something else entirely.
I'm telling you, a sentence like, "Will you please [explicit verb] [explicit adverb], baby?" is an incredibly sexy and vulnerable way to put yourself out there for your woman. I'm bisexual, I've been with men and women, so I've been on the giving and receiving end of many a sexual, passionate request such as this. It's empowering and exhilarating. You're just asking her to do what she already wants to do for you because she loves you and wants to please you. She wants to give herself to you, it is almost physically painful to have an insecurity hold you back from being completely sexually open with someone who you truly love. This I also know first hand. By telling her specifically that you want this from her, you make it hers to give you. Which means you're giving yourself to her as much as she is to you.
Balancing emotional dominance and positional submission for her with the opposite for you. It's the key.Comment

It sounds to me like she is self-conscious. That is going to kill the intimacy for her and might be making her feel a little ridiculous. She might need to feel reassured that her back is just as enticing and sexy as her front.
Something to consider is that preferences can change. Doggy-style is currently my wife's favorite position, but it wasn't always. For her, the change was purely physical. One day, it just started to feel really good, where before it didn't do much for her.Comment

I absolutely love to make love to my wife this way. She will occasionally say "I want you to take me from behind", but immediately says "Stop! This is way too intense!" even before we get started. For me this quickly goes from a major turn on to a turn off. In your case, it seems that she has a negative mental image of this sexual position, so talking with her constructively seems like your best approach.Comment

I'll take your word for it, that this how you feel. I can't see us feeling the same way.
Oh well, people are Different.
Since starting this thread her pregnancy is progressing and we had a scare or two.
So at the moment other issues elbow their way to the front of our lives.
That does not mean that my fantasies and desires have changed, we might end up on our sides a bit more in the near future
Any good ideas are still welcome.Comment

Congratulations on having a little one on the the way. While she is pregnant, enjoy the changes her body is going through.I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience.

Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot?
