I'm not real experienced at sex with multiple partners because I've been married for nearly 25 years. However, I did date a gal in college and when we would have sex, when she got close to climaxing, she would tell me "...I'm fixing to come...I'm coming...I'm coming now..." and it seems like her orgasm would be going on for like 10 or 20 seconds and maybe even longer.

When I do my wife, her orgasms seem to be bursts, they last 2-3-4 seconds instead of the extended time.

Are either of these out of the norm? Do women's orgasms typically last for half a minute, or are they quick bursts?

I was just listening to a program about women's sexuality yesterday. It said that women are not only wired very differently from men in terms of the way the nerves run into the genital area, but that there is a great deal of variety between women.

I imagine that accounts for the variety in preferences and experience from woman to woman. I think it can even vary for the same woman depending on how she arrives to climax and mental state.

None of that sounds out of the norm. I once read or heard somewhere that some women have multiple smaller firecracker type orgasms while others have single intense orgasms. I'm in the latter category for sure. Mine last about 5-10 seconds and are incredibly intense. So much so that I can't tolerate much stimulation afterward for about a half hour or so. It works well because I usually come first- it only takes me about 5 minutes or less to reach orgasm. Then we can focus on him and his pleasure however he wants it and then sometimes he'll come back around to me for a second time.

Every woman is different and every orgasm is different. Sometimes I'll have a mini-orgasm that lasts for 5-10 seconds. Other times I'll have an intense one that seems to go for a half-minute or longer--I'm not really concerned at that point with timing it. :-) If I'm tired out or sleepy, it can be pretty mild, and if I'm really into the moment it can be so intense that it nearly makes me cry. As for sounds, I can range from a purr or a whispered or moaned "Oh my God" to a screamed "YES!"

As long as your wife seems satisfied, and hasn' indicated to you that she isn't, I wouldn't worry. The best thing to do is talk to her about it--then you'll understand her responses better.

Depending on whether the orgasm was triggered internally or externally the orgasmic pulses can be very different and they feel different as well. Don't worry about it. As long as you are giving her the best orgasms no matter short pulsed ones or long pulsed ones, you are doing the right thing

It can be very different for every woman. When me and my fiance' have sex, sometimes the orgasm is super fast and sometimes it lasts longer. I think it really just depends on many different variables so its hard to pin point.

I don't think either case is abnormal though. Just different.

So no multiple orgasms for you? I'm a guy and I'm like that, once I bust my load, I can tolerate some stimulation for a few minutes afterwards, but I need about 10-20 minutes before I can get hard again.

When I first got with my gf she was so quiet I did not know if she had one or not. Only when her response, breathing and clinching suddenly intensified and quickly reverted to a stop every motion did I suspect she had a orgasm. Now she is more open and louder and she tells me. Another interesting aspect of female orgasm is its relation to reproductive success. When a woman climaxes, her cervix will dip down into the pool of semen ejaculated by her partner.

Still more interesting...a woman is more likely to orgasm with a lover rather than her husband or regular partner. This is especially true during her fertile period.
