I'll post again once I know if the fibroids are back.

It is such a relief to have found this. I'm 30 and have been having these pains for several years. My sister also has them. They start about 7-10 days before my period, always after orgasms during that time and sometimes during the night. They last for about 10 - 20 minutes and the pain is absolutely excrutiating. I have been to several doctors over the years and they just dismiss it. I was seeing a reproductive specialist a few years ago that did a laparoscopy to check for endometriosis but nothing. During an ultrasound (I was going through invitro) he saw a fibroid tumor and even though he didnt think it was causing my pain I was convinced it had to be it. He did say that during certain times of the month the fibroid might twist and be cut off from it's blood supply which could cause pain. He did a laparotomy to remove that fibroid and several other small ones. The pains stopped for about 3 months and were not quite as painful for the next year and half but now they are back in full force. I guess I'll know if it was the fibroid if I push for an ultrasound from my new obgyn and she finds one. This problem has affected my relationships, sleep, and I cant help but think it has been to blame for miscarriages. It's comforting to read that I'm not alone and not crazy as some doctors have made me feel (implying that it's pms, it is NOT pms!).
I'll post again once I know if the fibroids are back. -
I have exactly the same problem and I have had it all my life even as a virgin and even when the orgasms are self-induced. I get severe pain in my low-abdomen area after the second orgasm but only some days before my period. If I have only one orgasm, I'm usually fine, but with 2 or more I have a great problem. I just don't have sex a few days before my period.
My exams are all fine, I don't know what causes the pain!Comment

The message above could have been written by me as i seem to be suffering with the same symptoms. Im 32 and for the past few months ive been suffering with post orgasmic pain. It always seems to happen about 7 -10 days before my period is due and its always the same pain. Its sometimes similar to the dull ache that i get on the first day of my period - other times (during sex) its so painful i cant move. Im going to start a diary to confirm that this is happening when i think it is.As I type this, i am in post-orgasmic pain. I have experienced this for years. What I started doing was writing down in my calendar each time it happened. In doing so, I noticed that the pain only occurred during ovulation or a week or so before my cycle would start. Around those times the body is really going through some changes. When I noticed this I was a bit more comfortable with dealing with the pain. I hope this helps.
Does anyone else have pain about a week before their period when they have an orgasm?Comment

Did you find any answers? I have the same issue with getting some relieve when going #2.I'm 32 and I have been experiencing the same extreme pain, that is after an orgasm, but not triggered by a penetration intercourse. It last for approx. 20 minutes, but it's , I'm sweating, and sometimes it gives me nausea. The only thing that gives me some kind of relieve is doing a number 2, sorry for the details. So, I don't know if it's linked or something, but it usually works. It does happen during my ovulation period, and fortunately not every month. I went to see one doc that told me I had an ovarian cyst (she felt it during my exam), but I went to see another that didn't felt anything. My twin sister has the same problem, she went for a scan and they found nothing, even though her doctor had felt a cyst during a palpation exam. I'm relieve to see other women have the same problems, I will try to do more physical activities like some suggested, I'm not really active...Comment

I'm so relieved to find this forum. I've been having this problem for years. My periods have always been agonizing. Before I was on birth control, I had PMS for a week, bled for a week, and had PMS-like symptoms for a whole week after! Once I was on birth control at 17 this helped a lot, at least my period only lasted 1 week, but it was still horrible. I tried prescription muscle relaxants and pain killers in the past that my doctors gave me, but all they did was make me groggy. I still felt the pain. About four years ago I started having cramps immediately after an orgasm for about a week before my period and during the first part of it. Due to all this pain, I got on birth control so that I only have 4 periods a year, under the guidance of my doctor. This is wonderful because at least its less frequent! However, when I do have my period its still just as bad. I tried having even less periods, but found if I did that my body started giving me cramps anyway.
I don't know what to do about the problem from here on. I've always had clean results on my yearly exams, no problems at all. However, I have no insurance and I'm a college student with no money, and can't afford to go to a doctor at this point.
These days if I have an orgasm during or around my period, it triggers one long cramp. I can feel it happening, slowly at first, as everything below my belly button and above my knees seems to tense up all at once. Then it just HOLDS it, for about 15 - 20 minutes. I don't know if it would last longer than that, as I always take Pamprin immediately - the only thing that helps - although it really doesn't stop the pain so much as make it more manageable.
I'm so sick of dealing with all this pain!!!Comment

New here - first post so hope this is will post right. I thought I was the only one who was having intense, uterine, cramping type pain after orgasm. I am 42 years old and this problem started close to a year ago. I have healthy, frequent, enjoyable sex with my husband of 5 years. Orgasm has always come easily for me so this is not a relaxation problem. The pain is intense cramping type pain in my lower abdomine and is usually accompanied by nausea. The pain lasts a couple hours, but the nausea can last 6 to 12 hours. Answering some of the above comments: I do have a gluten allergy, and though the pain and nausea are very much the same, gluten episodes only occure several hours after eating gluten and are not triggered by orgasm. I am bipolar with depression and anxiety issues which are well controlled by medications. I have been suffering with bipolar for close to 20 years and have only had the orgasm pain in the last year. My medications have not changed in close to 3 years. I do occasionally have ovarian cysts, but a recent ultrasound found no current cysts. I have the pain after every orgasm no matter how intense, no matter how many I have, no matter what way the orgasm is acheived, and no matter the time of month. I seem to be the odd man out on this issue.
I have not tried the hot bath suggestion above, but I plan to and hope it helps.Comment

Newb here too!
Mine was very similar to your description. I am 23 and have never been pregnant but since I was 18, I have had very severe pain after some of my orgasms. However, there is only one position which I can achieve an orgasm and that is on top. On a few occasions, the pain was so bad I became sick. One instance I blacked out due to the pain. The cramping pain lasts anywhere from five to fifteen minutes. Has anyone else become sick or blacked out due to the cramping? I have asked my gyno many times about this but the only answer I recieve is "Hm... I don't know." I had a laperoscopy when I was 18 because they thought I might have had endometriosis but the results were negative. The Gyno placed me on Depo as birth conrtol (I had never been on bc before that) which I was on for three years straight and found out afterwards that was a no no. I have been off of all bc for 1 1/2 -2 years because my husband and I have decided to not prevent against having a baby but none have decided to grace us with their presence.Hi All i'm a newbeeeeeeeee
I found this site because i am worried about the pain i sometimes have after orgasm. Its like severe period cramps, and like a couple of yourselves its not just after intercorse either, the first time it happened it was like my body went into shock, i felt sick cold sweats and lots of pain this only lasted about 20 minutes but it was awful. I also notice that i get these cramp like pains when i have been running, I do quite a lot of running at work and am doubled up in pain at the end of it. I have made an appointment with my doctor for this Wednesday so will see what she is saying and will let you all know

Cramps after orgasm
I am a 38 year old woman who has been on continuous birth control (I haven't had my period in 5 years). I just started getting cramps immediately following an orgasm. I don't have endometriosis or ovarian cysts and don't expect this is the issue because I have been on the pill since I was 15. Here are my theories:
1. I haven't had orgasms enough lately. I have started having them as the result of dreams.
2. My weight is kind of high. It has been inching steadily up. Maybe my pill is less effective because of obesity and I am having the kind of pain many people have mid-cycle.
My plan is to lose weight, have more orgasms, and ask my gyno. I have an appointment next month.Comment

Went to gyno and had pelvic exam. Doc thought it was ectopic pregnancy but the blood test came back negative. A transvaginal ultrasound revealed no cyst or tumor. My gyno suggested I give my body a break from the birth control. I may do this for 7 days but I don't think I need a break from the pills. My gyno is old-fashioned and really doesn't have any other working hypothesis. I guess I'm on my own to figure it out.Comment

I am new here also and have been experiencing post orgasm pain, no matter how the orgasm happens it still is painful, a cramping on my left side radiating to my back and buttocks muscles..I am 67 years old and have been experiencing this for about 4 yrs, it came on suddenly for no reason and I have seen my doctor and they did ultrasounds and suggested exploratory surgery, but I have been reluctant to do this, they found nothing wrong. In my history, when I was younger, I had my tubes cut for birth control and the suggestion is that scar tissue is the culprit, and scar tissue can continue to spread over the years as told by my doctor, so unless I have surgery which would cause more scar tissue, my doctor says if I can live with it, so be it! The cramps last about 20 minutes and warmth seems to help. I am less depressed as I read these posts from those of you with this problem. Maybe someone will be able to discover an answer, it seems to be all age groups..thanks ladies for the info.Comment
