    Female pubic hair and sexuality

I'm going to be as respectful as I can possibly be, given this sensitive topic. It seems like everyone else here is respectful and can have an adult conversation so...

Even though it appears in some part to be coming back in style to let it grow out, I'm honestly perplexed at the popularity in this day and age at how many women systematically feel the need to shave/wax/laser their pubic hair in part or in full. I understand the idea of wanting to feel "clean" or " of upkeep" and in general sexy. But that's the catch, to me a woman is sexy when she exhibits the physical features of full sexual maturity and womanhood.

This is my take and please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong at any point. 1. Pubic hair has a purpose to repel bacteria and/or dry it out by catching it prior to entering the vagina and urethra where its a warm and damp breeding ground. So it would seem that a woman is in fact cleaner to have pubic hair and just has to wash and keep the hair clean. 2. I have had sex with two women in my life. Both had full pubic hair as in natural or a very lite trim, but just on the edges so it doesn't overreach beyond a bikini. Sex was amazing being able to feel each other's bush. And the provided padding was a bonus with not rubbing each other's pubic area raw. 3. Once a woman is post puberty, logic and instinct just make sense that a male would respond as turned on by seeing that her body visually represents that she is mature and physically capable of sex. Similar to wider hips and breasts being additional signs.

I can't help feel that the aesthetics industry and porn mostly contribute to these ideas. Now the opposite extreme is people who have a fetish for hair. I don't feel like I'm on ether extreme. I just appreciate the body in a more natural state as was designed by nature to be sexually. I also feel pretty bad for how much pressure there is on women now days to perform sexually beyond her body's natural limits and how their bodies should appear.

Where am I going wrong, or what am I missing here???

I think, in part, that the tendency to shave, clip, wax etc. is due to the type of clothing we are now wearing. Frankly, I don't think it in good taste to go to a beach in a bikini and have half of my pubis out on display because the hair is creeping down my leg or out the top of my bathing suit. In some way the manufacturers of these items and even under wear may be to blame because it really hurts when public hair gets caught in the leg elastic. Trust me, it can be really painfull.

Just my opinion, but perhaps others may have a different take on things.
That which we forget may as well never really happened.

Personally, I am aware that I wax because I feel that societal pressure to be smooth. Another major reason is because I don't feel comfortable receiving oral sex when I have pubic hair. It makes me self-conscious that my partner is uncomfortable. He says that he wouldn't mind the hair if it's short but I can tell by his face and his body language that he is uncomfortable when there is hair there. I wish that was not the case.

        Penelope,

I understand what you are saying. All I can say is that its sad it has come to this. Culture trends are powerful and even if we don't buy into them ourselves, a partner can still effect us if their views are reshaped by such trends.

Even though I myself prefer vaginal intercourse, I know that many woman are often better stimulated via oral. So I have no problem giving oral. I prefer giving oral when pubic hair is present because its just visually more mature looking. Its not gross or uncomfortable at all.

Hopefully he can become more used to it. You should always be able to be comfortable with a sexual partner as you are made

I prefer a relatively full growth as I think it adds to the mystery especially giving oral. That being said, it is the woman's choice. Certainly trimming so as to not show what she doesn't want to show in swimwear is appropriate in almost every case. Myself, I find a short cut to be worse than longer and also worse than shaven since it often irritates my face (like male facial hair that is at the whisker stage.) If there is a slight scent that goes along with having pubic hair, so be it. I prefer it to the odor of soap or no odor at all. The scent can heighten sexual arousal. The arousing characteristic of a woman's scent is maybe the thing I remember best from my first times giving oral.
I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience.
          ...
Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot?

Very well said. I love it! The part about adding to the mystery when giving oral. Its actually a major turn on to have the area partially not visible and to have to part the bush to see it all. Is a tease of sorts.

I don't mind the female scent. Its intoxicating. Its not a scent of being unsanitary usually. Its all part of the amazing experience of being with a woman. All 5 senses are important, including scent.

And I fully agree, it's the woman's choice. My argument however is that many of them seem to be forced to make a choice to remove their pubic hair even though they wish they didn't have to do so. That's put on them because culture says she somehow "looks better smooth."

For some of us, it's just personal preference. I don't think I started shaving and waxing it all off until a few years ago, and I just find I like it better. There's been no man to influence my choice, and I don't watch porn regularly to shape my point of view. I'm 46, probably was late to the party on this one, but that's where I am now

sat next to a woman gynecologist on a plane 9 yrs ago
she had a theory that shaving under the arms caused little cuts/introduced bacteria and maybe contributed to breast cancer because of proximity to breasts
since she was a Dr, it made sense to me at the time
since was about to become a parent, not shaving would give me extra time, lol

so started an experiment of my own and stopped shaving under arms & legs
today, I have no hair at all under arms or on my legs
stopping the shaving eventually stopped growth
can't say when it happened because of being a parent and focus on child but my legs are as smooth as can be now!
From my experience women who don't shave their legs still have hair on them, only it is sparse, short and soft.

It might sound crazy, but for many women shaving the whole area is easier than having to "groom" it.

In reality, unless you're going to go TOTALLY au naturale where the pubic hair is thicker than the Amazon rain forest and grows down the insides of your legs (not super cute in shorts or a skirt), you're going to have to do some amount of grooming. Trying to shave around parts of it and trim other parts with scissors or trimmers all the while maintaining a nice "shape" is quite a challenge and quite frankly, a nuisance.

So, while many men say they like it all natural, in reality, all natural is still well groomed.

On the other hand, shaving is super easy, quick, and done.

                  "Be what you're looking for."

                    Ashlee,

I can totally see the point you are making. I see it like other things. Everyone's body is a bit different. So for some women who's hair grows faster and beyond the area, it may well be a nuisance to have to go through all of that so its easier to just take it all off like you said. On the other hand, there are many women who for the most part can go au-naturale without much impact if any on exposure while having on a bikini or other attire. The few women I have been with and or seen being au-naturale down there really never had to do any upkeep. It was a naturally shaped V bush and one would have had to look really hard and up close to see any sign of hair under a bikini.

I maintain that its healthy and sexually enhancing to let it grow. But all that said, I am all about everyone having their body the way they see fit and accepting everyone just the same. I'm just trying to point out a few positive views to consider regarding pubic hair because it seems in society that 99.99% of all the views are for removing it.
