Best Overall CBD Lube: Smooth Operator

Best Overall
Quim Smooth Operator
4.6
$48.00 (30 ml)
CBD: 100 mg
Effects Begin: 10-15 Minutes
Effect Intensity: Mild
Pros:
  • Full Spectrum CBD (Hemp Flower Oil)
  • 100% Organic Aloe Vera
  • May Help With Menstrual Pain
  • Sexy, Sophisticated Packaging
  • Safe To Use With Latex Condoms
Cons:
  • Safe For Oral, But Tastes Bad
  • Excessive Outer Packaging
  • Less Than Discreet
  • Some May Not Appreciate The Word “Quim”
Bottom Line: While the outer appearance may not be the most discreet, it’s what’s on the inside that counts. This CBD lube not only performs fantastically, but Smooth Operator also carries multiple benefits from its list of natural ingredients, which includes skin-soothing aloe vera. Unlike many other CBD products we tried, you will actually feel the relaxing and enhancing effects right where it matters most.
$48.00 @ She Bop

Featuring 100 mg of full-spectrum CBD (about 3.3 mg per application), this lube really lives up to the name “Smooth Operator.”

While some may bristle at the word “quim” — an Elizabethan Era slang that’s a possibly derogative term for a vagina — even they have to admit this is one hot-looking box.

Sexy, but more than a little obvious.

While it won’t be the most inconspicuous thing on your nightstand, this CBD lube delivers where it counts.

Our testers found that Smooth Operator was silky smooth, slick, and long-lasting in most test cases.

One major plus is the fact that the company says it can be used with latex condoms, just like a water-based lubricant.

That is no mean feat, especially for lube (serum) with oil-based ingredients.

hand holding a bottle of quim smooth operator lube against a background of white flowers

Smooth Operator’s base uses 100% organic aloe vera, a water-based ingredient that boasts numerous benefits for your skin (and sex life) on its own, along with soothing oils that include sunflower, hemp flower, and vitamin E.

The star of the show, however, is the full spectrum CBD — which won’t get you high or cause you to fail a drug test.

With CBD being the big “it” compound these days, there is always a risk that you’ll pay for marketing more than the ingredient: a lube might contain little to no CBD but boast the addition of it regardless — and pass the expense on to you.

Smooth Operator comes through and delivers on its promised CBD content, both in our personal testing and in the lab reports we obtained from the company.

Wednesday Lee Friday, one of our testers said, “This is a great product for someone who is not a regular marijuana user and wants to try a CBD lube.”

The effects Smooth Operator claims to cause are increased blood flow, pelvic relaxation, and pain and inflammation relief.

Wednesday explained that it “works very well as a personal lubricant and provides mild but noticeable CBD effects.”

She noted mild arousal within 15 minutes but added that she was already in the mood before application.

By the end, she was “not as relaxed as I normally would [be] with a CBD lube.”

Fellow tester, Clarisse Quirit Rella, said that she felt very mild effects when using Smooth Operator, “which was good because this was my first time using a CBD lube.”

quim smooth operator cbd lube against white backgroundShe noted that it took about 10 minutes to notice them, which included a slight cooling sensation.

Clarisse explained that she was already aroused before application but by the end, she felt relaxed and recommended it for other CBD beginners.

Unfortunately, I’m the odd man out — I didn’t feel any noticeable effects during or after use.

According to the wee booklet that comes with the lube, Smooth Operator is useful for more than just sex.

They claim this can be used alongside other menstrual products to help with pain relief.

The lube itself has a luxurious and thick texture that feels great on the skin.

Our entire testing team noted this product’s staying power, with little to no need for reapplication, and one even used it for a fun time in the tub and said it still worked great!

It is pretty obvious that this product is made for vaginas and vaginal sex, which it does a great job with, but what about other forms of sex play?

  • Oral Sex: Although it isn’t toxic or harmful, the flavor is less than ideal and we wouldn’t recommend getting a mouthful of Smooth Operator.
  • Anal Sex: As far as butt stuff goes, Smooth Operator doesn’t bring much more to the table compared to other lubes. It works well, but I personally found that the CBD doesn’t seem to add much to the experience.
  • Handjobs/Masturbation: This was the only time that reapplication really seemed to be necessary, as it absorbs into the skin over time.

All in all, however, Quim’s Smooth Operator is a phenomenal addition to your lube arsenal.

It deserves our top spot as one of the best CBD lubes — especially if you’re a complete beginner.

Also Good: QULO CBD Lube

QULO By TOCA
4.3
$48.00 (30 ml)
CBD: 200 mg
Effects Begin: 5-10 Minutes
Effect Intensity: Mild (Warming)
Pros:
  • Full Spectrum CBD (Whole Plant Extract)
  • Natural Ingredients
  • Spray Bottle Gives Even Coverage
  • Easy To Use In The Dark
  • Great for Anal Sex
Cons:
  • Contains Trace THC (0.12 mg; Within Federal Limit)
  • Bottle Can Dribble
  • Not Safe With Latex Condoms
  • Ingredients Like Rose Quartz May Be Just For Marketing
Bottom Line: TOCA’S QULO is packed with natural ingredients that enhance your experience in a small, sleek spray bottle. Offering a slick (but not oily) texture and even coverage wherever you apply it, this CBD lube is excellent for both vaginal and anal sex.
$48.00 @ TOCA

Get ready to spray, delay, and slay that ass with TOCA’S QULO, one of the best CBD lubes around.

Featuring 200 mg of broad spectrum CBD (about 7.4 mg total cannabinoids per gram, verified by lab report), QULO has a trace of THC that’s within federal standards but will likely not cause a positive result on drug tests.

The outer box design has a very laid-back Urban Outfitters vibe that stands out among more high-end cosmetic-styled CBD lubes.

Bonus points for the typeface — QUL( * ) — that lets you know what’s up right away.

toca's qulo cbd anal lube lit from behind with a salt lamp to display its logo, which features an asterisk between two crescents to mimic an anus

Inside the box is a fancy-looking bottle of intimate oil with a spray nozzle, which is unusual for most lubes, especially oil-based ones.

The benefit of this type of nozzle is the even coverage you get with each spritz.

The actual CBD lubricant itself is just as impressive as the packaging.

Packed with plant-derived, natural ingredients, QULO helps relax and increase sensitivity to all your fun parts.

Even for people who don’t often engage in butt sex, QULO makes the experience frictionless and fun.

product tester justin holding his finger on the spray applicator of qulo, with text overlay that reads: qulo by toca has a spray applicator

According to Wednesday Lee Friday, one of our testers:

“I was surprised that a lube designed for anal sex would be packaged in a spray bottle. Turned out, this was great for neat easy application. The lube itself, despite being thin, was very effective at reducing the pain and friction that can accompany anal sex.”

Ingredients like ginger, cardamom, and kava kava help bolster the full spectrum CBD’s relaxation, pain relief, and anti-inflammatory properties — plus they add an interesting flavor profile during oral sex.

In a way, it’s sort of a CBD orgasm enhancer.

The thin texture may not seem like it will do the job, but we’ve tested QULO in multiple arenas, including with toys and in water, and the CBD lube held up its end, performing very well with minimal reapplication.

Clarisse Quirit Rella, who also tested QULO, explained that although it’s designed for anal sex, it’s not a preferred activity, “so we opted to try it for handjobs and masturbation — which worked nicely.”

bottle of toca qulo cbd lube with its boxAlthough I didn’t notice any effects from the CBD — aside from the same warming sensation that the rest of our team experienced (which could be bothersome if you have sensitive skin) — fellow tester Wednesday said that the “CBD relaxation effect kicked in right after” she finished using it.

One caveat to mention is that, unlike Smooth Operator, QULO is not compatible with latex condoms.

Another thing that caught my attention, and this may just be me being a bit petty, there are some ingredients that don’t seem to provide any real benefit and only exist to appeal to New Age folks.

Rose quartz, a rock, is listed as the last ingredient.

There is zero science to back up any health or wellness benefits that rose quartz might provide in a CBD lubricant.

Is it harmful?

No, but it just feels unnecessary.

(Also, how do they get it in there? Can you, like, juice a rock?)

To be fair, while using the lube, I could not care less because it just performs so damn well.

My own personal peccadillos aside, our testing team agrees that QULO is a stand-out product and one of the best CBD lubes available.

How We Made Our Picks & Features We Considered

product tester justin holding a box containing toca qulo during the testing of cbd lubes

When it comes to products that are going on your skin or in your body, we do not cut corners.

That goes for everything we test and review, but we took extra care in finding the best CBD lube.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a relatively new ingredient that has exploded in popularity over the past few years but it is not regulated by the FDA.

That means unscrupulous manufacturers could slap the letters “CBD” on anything and hike up the price without even needing to prove there’s any CBD in the product at all.

Additionally, brands and manufacturers freely make claims about what their CBD products can do — without providing any real data to back them up.

Combine that with the usual non-starters like glycerin, parabens, fragrances, dyes, or any additives that can cause problems for you and your junk, and we had our work cut out for us.

So, our researchers, under the advisement of our medical review board, selected lubes that could provide lab reports or a Certificate of Analysis (COA) to verify their CBD content.

We typically use a 25-point system of review, which involves almost 100 hours of testing that covers everything from the packaging aesthetics, to smell, taste, texture, performance, and cleanup.

For CBD lubes, however, we added an extra section focused on the CBD effects exclusively.

Some of those on our testing team are seasoned vets when it comes to cannabis products while others had limited experience — or none at all.

Either way, we all were mindful of the CBD effects with every stroke, lick, hump, and nut.

The most important criteria to look for in a CBD lubricant include:

  • Natural and/or 100% body-safe ingredients
  • CBD content, verified with lab reports or COA
  • Limited allergens
  • No unnecessary or harmful additives (glycerin, parabens)
  • Natural feeling texture
  • Optimal performance in a variety of sexy scenarios
  • Ease of use
  • Condom and sex toy compatibility (if applicable)
  • Verifiable pH or osmolality (if water-based)
  • Ease of clean up

When selecting the best CBD lube, we weighed and tested:

  • How each product felt on our skin and during use
  • Any effects we experienced from the CBD (and what they were)
  • The smell, taste, and texture of the lube during various activities
  • How easy the product was to use, even in the dark
  • How difficult it was to clean up after use
  • Whether the lube stained our bedding or other fabrics
  • How the product looks aesthetically

While performance is key, we had to rule out any products that might have harmful ingredients.

Safety first!

We couldn’t recommend a product if we are not 100% confident that it is safe —or had no (or ineffective) CBD, especially if it uses hemp extract.

Neither of our two picks caused any kind of irritation or adverse effects among our testers, who used every lube during masturbation, vaginal sex, anal sex, and with toys.

Although we tasted each personal lubricant we tried, none of them had a pleasant enough flavor for oral sex.

CBD Lubes That Didn’t Make Our List

cbd lubes our team tested but didn't choose as a top pick; from left to right: joy organics, glissant, flora + bast, coconu, foria, and kiskanu

Not everyone, or every lube, can be a winner.

We have high standards to go along with our rigorous testing.

We screened for:

→ Verifiable CBD (via lab sheets or COA)
Glycerin (causes yeast infections)
Parabens (may lead to endocrine disruption)
Unsafe pH levels (only in water-based products; may cause irritation and increased risk of STIs)
Unsafe osmolality (only in water-based products; did not meet World Health Organization recommendations)

CBD lubes that we researched but did not consider for testing included products manufactured by:

  • Quanna
  • Kush Queen
  • HighOnLove
  • GoLove
  • Bloomi
  • LeafyQuick
  • Bella
  • Infinite CBD
  • Lure
  • Dani Pepper
  • And many others…

Although we can’t endorse products belonging to the companies mentioned above, that doesn’t necessarily mean they are poor products.

They didn’t meet our very strict criteria for ingredients, verification of CBD, and in the case of water-based CBD lubes, verification of body-safe pH and/or osmolality.

CBD Lubes We Tested — But Didn’t Recommend

When it comes to CBD lubricants, many factors contribute to whether a product is good for some people — but not others.

The effects of a CBD personal lubricant can be somewhat subjective, in our experience — with varied results based on the person, how much they applied, and the way the formula affects them individually.

You might need to try a few different CBD lubes before finding the perfect one — just like we did — but in the end, it’s well worth the effort.

  • Coconu Hemp Infused Body Oil: Man, this one hurt. Not physically, but it was our highest-rated lube out of the bunch. Made with USDA organic certified coconut oil, it has a fantastic texture, performed very well, and didn’t cause a mess. The problem was we couldn’t confirm the CBD content with Coconu, if there is any. As a regular oil-based lube, though — we highly recommend it.
  • Joy Organics Organic CBD Massage Oil: This one was great as a massage oil, but not up to snuff as a lube. It washed off very easily during shower sex, absorbed quickly into the skin, and needed too-frequent reapplication.
  • Kiskanu Hemp CBD Intimacy Oil: Kiskanu’s CBD lube was fine. But just fine. It rinsed off too fast when we tested it in water and absorbed into the skin pretty quickly, but mostly it simply didn’t “wow” anyone on the testing team.
  • Glissant: While we adored the chic top-shelf cosmetic look of the spray bottle, this one didn’t perform as well as we hoped. The double-edged sword of the packaging is that while it is discreet, there wasn’t any dosage info on the bottle itself.
  • Foria Intimacy Sex Oil/CBD + Foria Awaken Arousal Oil: Foria was a little extra with their packaging and bottles. They look nice enough, but the lube with CBD came in a glass bottle with a dropper. Definitely has a chill apothecary vibe if you’re into that sort of thing, but it’s a giant pain in the ass to use in the dark and made a mess of things.
  • Flora + Bast Aphrodisia Intimate Arousal Oil: This was another case of being good, but not great. The lube needed reapplication thanks to it drying up quickly. I would like to commend them on devoting over 50% of their profits directly to the farmers and extractors, however.

That isn’t to say these aren’t good CBD lubricants, but we do set the bar rather high when it comes to choosing the best.

What To Know About CBD Lubes

toca qulo cbd lube laying on a soft green plant

With cannabidiol (CBD) being a relative newcomer to the world of lube, there are plenty of questions most people will have about this hemp-derived helper.

What Are CBD Lubes?

CBD lubes are sexual lubricants, typically oil-based, that contain cannabidiol, which is derived from cannabis — a plant most commonly known as marijuana.

In recent years, CBD has exploded in popularity as an ingredient used in tinctures, vapes, gummies, creams, and even dog treats as a remedy for everything from pain to mental health ailments.

CBD has a number of benefits that include relaxation, pain relief, increased blood flow, and anti-inflammation.

It’s like getting all of the benefits of weed without getting high, thanks to the lack of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive molecule in cannabis.

Some CBD lubes may have minuscule amounts of THC, but not enough to have an effect — or be outside of federal restrictions.

QULO, for example, has only 0.3% THC max per bottle with the typical amount being closer to 0.1% (0.12% according to lab reports we were given).

It should be noted that CBD lubricants are not the same as hemp seed oil lubes.

Although both contain ingredients derived from the cannabis plant, hemp oil is made from the seeds, rather than the stems, leaves, or flowers, and doesn’t have any CBD or THC in it.

For this reason, it can be difficult to find hemp-derived CBD products unless cannabidiols are added using an ingredient extracted from another part of the cannabis plant.

When Should You Use A CBD Lube?

You should grab a bottle of CBD lube when you:

  • Are looking for extra sensation
  • Want a more relaxed vagina or anus during penetration
  • Don’t necessarily plan to use latex toys, condoms, diaphragms, or dental dams (if oil based)
  • Want a lube that can be used as a massage oil

Think of CBD lube as a regular lube with some pizzazz.

Is CBD Lube Safe?

CBD is safe for most people, even in a personal lubricant.

If you are pregnant, it is best to avoid using CBD products until speaking with your doctor, as cannabidiol can cross the placental barrier, potentially affecting the fetus.

When used as directed, CBD lube is as safe as can be for just about everyone else, but make sure to read the ingredients list to verify there are no ingredients (such as seed-based oils) that might cause an allergic reaction.

Oils used in CBD lubricant can include plant-derived essential oils, organic coconut oil or MCT coconut oil, shea butter, or cocoa butter, so if you or your partner have known sensitivities, they’re best avoided.

Water-based CBD lube may contain aloe vera gel, which is generally safe but those who have a latex allergy should proceed with caution, as the aloe plant contains natural latex.

There are additional safety considerations you should know about, however:

  • When it contains glycerin or parabens: These can cause a myriad of issues such as upsetting your natural flora (promoting yeast infections) and can lead to an increased risk of infection.

Additionally, parabens may be linked to endocrine disruption.

  • When it contains unsafe pH or osmolality levels: A pH that’s too low or an osmolality that’s too high can increase your risk of irritation, discomfort, burning, and potential infection.

Although many CBD lubes are oil-based, some use water-based formulas.

Does CBD Lube Make You High Or Fail A Drug Test?

No, CBD lube won’t get you high and it shouldn’t cause you to fail a drug test.

CBD, in general, won’t get you high because it doesn’t contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the molecule responsible for the psychoactive effects of cannabis.

The whole reason CBD has become adopted by so many people is because you get the benefits of cannabis without getting stoned.

There are CBD-derived products like Delta-8 or HHC that provide a similar effect to marijuana, but those are typically found in specially bred flowers, vapes, and edibles like gummies or soda.

Even QULO’s itty-bitty amount of THC isn’t going to get you high.

  • Will CBD Lube Show Up On A Drug Test?

According to ArcPoint Labs, one of the largest drug testing companies in the US, CBD will not show up on a drug test.

This is because, frankly, they don’t test for it.

Drug tests look for traces of THC, which is different from CBD.

Some CBD lubricants, like QULO, contain a trace of THC but it shouldn’t be an issue — you’re being exposed to very little.

If you use a lot of it, or often, it is possible (but still very unlikely) that a small amount of THC will show up on a drug test.

This is way more likely to occur with other products like a CBD joint or cookie — because you consume the whole thing — and not CBD lubes, as you use only a few squirts and not the entire bottle at once.

That said, everyone’s body metabolizes THC differently.

While it is unlikely that occasional use of a CBD lube with <0.3% THC will pop up on a drug screen, double-check the product label to look for mentions of THC if you’re concerned.

The Pros And Cons Of CBD Lube

CBD lube carries plenty of upsides, but there may be a few caveats to consider.

CBD Lube Pros:

  • Added benefits of CBD, which include relaxation, pain relief, and anti-inflammatory properties
  • Can pull double-duty as a fantastic massage oil
  • May increase blood flow to the areas where it is applied, improving sexual pleasure
  • Can help with vaginal dryness
  • Most CBD lubes are marketed at a more holistic crowd, so they typically are made with natural or organic ingredients
  • The (typical) oil base makes most CBD lubes great for fun in the shower, bath, or hot tub
  • CBD’s relaxation and pain relief properties may make anal sex more enjoyable for the receiver, especially if they’re new to the activity

CBD Lube Cons:

  • CBD lubes tend to carry a higher price tag compared to other personal lubricants
  • CBD is currently not regulated by the FDA
  • Less scrupulous companies may claim to use CBD when they actually don’t — or use very little
  • Most CBD lubes are oil-based, so they don’t play well with latex condoms
  • Generally safe for oral sex, although they may not always taste great
  • CBD, like cannabis itself, is not one-size-fits-all and you may not feel as many (or any) of the benefits experienced by others
