I agree with sourpuss on the fact that (most) men love to talk about themselves, so we take advantage of that.
I think I am the exact opposite of most women. If I am attracted and am really digging the guy, I ignore him. I wait for him to do the initial step, and then I show a hint or some. Hints like a sweet smile with a twinkle in the eye.
Mostly, my signals are very subtle - the way I sit next to him or opposite him, my posture, my eyes search for his eyes and see through his "soul" as je talks to me.
I am a shy person and an introvert as well. In my pursuit for the right man, I sometimes end up mirroring him. I guess I am just as tomboy as I am. Going back to how I was when I was single, I didn't really flirt as much. I just had that confidence of being myself, take it or leave it.

At first,I'm extremely shy.It takes the act of god to get a word out of me.Haha But once you start a conversation with me,I open up more and more. Really,I don't do much flirting at first. But I do like to ask questions, keeps the conversation interesting.
I'll smile a lot,and I laugh at little things he says.I don't know what I do,but a guy can tell I like him within the first half hour! Haha its like I have 'Your Hot' written on my forehead.

Hi-jacker!
On topic now... ultimately, if I talk too much and initiate the conversation, it is a hint that I just see the guy as an equal - a friend. If I am timid, and then smile cutely, that's a flirty gesture so far.
But there was an instance when I accidentally let my fingers trail through my hair, then down to my neck and I let it sit there, softly caressing the right side of my neck...gosh! It made the man really come out of his way to get me. I didn't realize I was doing it, until a friend of mine pointed out and I told myself, oops!
I think women send subtle signals in every way when they are attracted to a man. In most cases, it is the subtle, sub-conscious signals that catch their attention...chemistry.Comment

I do little things like smile and give eye contact. Also, lightly grazing their arm or full contact on a part of their body when they say something funny. Sometimes I tilt my head to the side and look at them intently to show that I am listening. If I'm really interested in you then I bite my bottom lip. It depends on the setting though really.Comment

I won't flirt unless I personally see a sign myself.
And if so, I smile, look to the ground, act a little shy, but then give them a whamy, by stating something that puts it back in his court, like " Actually, your only here because you wanted to flirt with me"...
Show confidence.
As for the later, of " asking lots of questions, that is dating, and establishing but the initial, is in the eyes I believe, just look at her/ his eyes.
That will be chemistry but it's up to you to delay the sexuality to create them to get to know you.
