Interesting replies here. Just goes to show that you can't change a man and a woman's basic nature.

I really like Steve Harvey's quote"

" men in love have a biological need to provide for the woman with whom he is in a relationship. Even if this man doesn’t have the cash he hopes because he is on his way towards building his dream career, a man in love will do what he can to make sure his woman is provided for. Not only will he proudly buy her dinner, take her to the movies, make sure she has medicine if she’s sick, or ensure she has enough RAM if her MacBook freezes interminably, he will make sure her garbage disposal is working correctly when it goes on the fritz."

A woman can reciprocate in non-material ways, such as providing loyalty, support and appreciation. I think there's nothing more sexually charging to a man when you show he's your hero.

When I was dating, we usually started by going for drinks. We would take turns paying. All the guys I dated were very much the pay type so I would pay when they went to the bathroom. If it was dinner, I always offered to pay even though I knew more than likely he wouldn't let me. Then I would offer to leave the tips. Later that night, I would try to buy the drinks. To me it was very important that I show a guy I am not the type to expect a guy to pay for stuff and I could take care of myself. That's just me.

If a guy started going crazy trying to divid things up evenly, well that would definitely be the last time with me.

I think you've got it right here, a girl making the offer to pay for drinks after dinner is the sort of gesture I'd appreciate and notice.

Yes, I understand wanting to come off as someone that has her life stable and together, and not needing a man to provide for you. For me, I think that shows on how I live on my own and pay my bills.

Like the other poster said, I just enjoy being treated special. Likewise, I like to do nice things for others. I love buying Christmas and birthday gifts for people, and I get excited at having to bring wine or cookies to someone's house for the first time. On a man's birthday, that's the occasion where I pay for things as a treat.
