These guys are addicted... They are like hoarders of porn. There is no compromise. They need serious help.

I think you are right about the OP in 2012. Not so sure about the new one. YHW seems contradictory -- great guy, great sex but watches porn. Seems like a moral objection as much as a practical relationship one. She hasn't given us nearly enough information.

My advice to women with porn-addicted husbands would be to have them direct their husbands to this site. That would yield several salutary effects.

        1. The guys can read the numerous threads about porn addiction and the damage it causes in relationships. They can come to realize that it's not just some idiosyncrasy of their own wife/gf to feel hurt and rejected.

        2. They can become addicted to this site, which at least offers reflections of true life and provides for some interesting discourse/exchange of ideas.

        3. Time spent here will be time away from porn. I like to watch porn from time to time. But I like spending time here. I also work about 50 hours a week. The corollary of all of this is that my time for porn is limited and there are other things competing for the time otherwise available for porn. By the time I have done my work, spent some time on WH, done my online chores such as banking, paying bills, etc., done my household maintenance and other chores and had time with my wife, precious little is left over for porn. So I might go for weeks with no porn. Woe is me!

I have said before on WH that I find porn overall rather boring. I have a limited appetite for it. I simply cannot endure long videos. To me, long is anything over about 10 minutes. I'd rather watch a few 5-minute clips and go do something else, like come here. After a brief look at porn, I'll probably go many days without looking at again, unless I see my wife watching some and we watch together. She looks at some, probably less than me, so not much. Watching for hours, as some are reported to do, would be mind-numbing. If someday I retire, the 50 or so hours now spent working can be devoted to porn. Now there's a scintillating prospect!

I never masturbate to porn, or otherwise, for that matter. My wife and I have too active a sex life for that. Why service myself when I have a woman I love, find beautiful and sexy and is almost always available? That is real. Porn is just some images on a screen, generally contrived and not very good ones at that.

It always strikes me as peculiar that there are, according to numerous threads here, guys who seem to soak up porn like a sponge, dedicate hours to the task, while ignoring the women in their lives. Why do they bother with wives/girlfriends? Why not just marry a porn site and live happily ever after, without making anyone feel hurt? I say that especially in view of the fact that, according to much of what I read here, porn emerges as an issue in many relationships, the guys hide their activity, massive porn collections, etc., then lie about it. That all sounds very stressful. If you live alone, joyously surrounded by TV screens with 24-hour streaming porn and no woman to bug you, that should be a place of true happiness for your basic porn addict.

An excellent analysis. Why watch a scripted event when the real thing is so close? I tend to think that it is the relationship that drives men to porn just as it's the relationship that drives women not to have sex. Porn is no different than wasting hours playing video games, spending excessive time at the bar or being a workaholic instead of having sex or spending time with your partner.

Too few see the clues that the relationship is faltering and even fewer have the skills (or some lack the guts) to communicate their needs or check in with their partners. BB, you and SA and MG and Still and other men on this site know almost immediately when something is wrong and will address it almost immediately (we know when are partners need to vent, need to decompress before talking etc). Most important, we all express appreciation to those we love.

The one piece of advice we would all give is to recognize when it's broke and fix it. "Man Up" means to me (ducking for cover), that men lead and should always be the ones to go first and do what needs to be done to make things better. Leaving brings heart ache, divorce brings financial ache as well; worse yet, the same things will happen over and over again in your nest relationships.
