I have had my Morena for 3 1/2 yrs with no problem at all. Not cramps or anything. Until me and my bf of 71/2yrs decided to get married. When we were having are little honeymoon after the wedding. We were in the hot tub getting frisky we all of a suddenly he half yells ouch something poked me. After I tried to feel my strings and couldn't. I kept trying and then one day in the shower I squatted down like a frog and I dnt feel the strings I felt the plastic. T part but it was over more to my right. I go in 2 days to have it checked. I am scared I am afraid I am gonna be surprised with something. Cause since that had happens I have been swollen down there. We are really not ready to have another child right now. I am Aldo scared that it will have to be surgically. Removed. Has anyone else had this problem. I have had no pain at all.

I am 20 years old, and have had the Mirena since August of 2012. I am experiencing a lot of the same symptoms. As of right now, I have been bleeding for about 3 weeks. I have cramps every day that are debilitating. I have also gained 15 pounds, experience pain during sex, been dealing with depression and extreme moodiness. I've also had horrible acne and dandruff as well. I want to get it removed but I'm nervous, I guess. I had never had a pap done when I had it put in and so it was incredibly painful and pretty traumatic. Whereas I never used to get nervous going to see my gynecologist, now I get anxious every time. I've had so many problems with birth control, I thought this would be the answer, but its been more harmful than its worth.

I had the Mirena inserted in December of 2011. I came from the depo thinking it would have been easier, no needle every three months, less hassle. BOY WAS I WRONG! I bled for the first 2 months and spotted continuously after that whenever it got good and ready to, I picked up 20lbs in that almost one year, bumps on my face, an almost constant pelvic pain that came and went, damaged hair, fatigue, mood swings, decreased sex drive, extra discharge, breast tenderness/soreness, chest pain, constant headaches, and leg pains. I finally had enough, got Mirena removed Nov 20th, 2012 and after a week my pelvic pain was gone and every other symptom followed behind it. Needless to say...Mirena was terrible for me! I'm back on Depo and that is where ill stay.

I got mine back in late June this year after having my first kid and I've bled ever since. I've experienced:
                Headaches
                Dizziness
                Memory loss
                Mood swings
                Itchy scalp
                Back pain
                Kidney stone
                Sudden confusion
                Painful intercourse
                Nausea
                Severe shakiness
                Loss of weight and appetite
                And sometimes preg feelings
I have no insurance so I can't go be checked out and I'm at a loss of what to do.

Learn from the posts on this thread: Stay clear of the Mirina

I find it really disturbing that so many people have bad experiences with this contraceptive device going back all the way to 2009 and yet people keep taking it.

My daughter in law started taking this, it turned her into a MONSTER, call it hormones or perhaps liken it to the stage in pregnancy that is so often portrayed in movies and series (an episode of Frasier springs to mind).

My daughter in law started being horrible to her kids, her husband but not to one or two friends, it seemed like her whole personality changed. She became much more selfish, my son put up with it for about 5 years, he did his research and asked her to remove it, she declined and and had a new one because she liked not having periods.

She may have got rid of "the curse" but she became the curse to almost everyone, sure she could put on a "nice" voice if she met someone new but it did not take long for her to be aggressive and nasty.

Well we had always been good friends and I kept my distance for the sake of my grandchildren, so after 3 years of separation she finally gets rid of this evil device and she changed AGAIN. It took a while but she slowly returned to the sweet person she once was, sadly it was too late for my son and her to get back together - just too much water under the bridge.

I was talking to her mother about it and she said that it was just not natural to not have periods, all those toxins and other things that get flushed with a period.

So if you doctor is suggesting you get this, ask them whether they or their practice get a payment for enrolling you on this (it usually kicks in at 18 months).

Consider all the negative comments on this thread and find a different solution. Ironically all my daughter in law wanted was to have her tubes tied but the doctor pushed her onto this (probably because of the money they are paid for family planning).

Learn from the mistakes of others!

                    Avoid the Mirina!

Interesting story Janine. Thanks for sharing with us. I have often wondered how many failed marriages are largely in part to hormonal BC. I have never had the Mirena, but after 10 years on BC pill I made the decision that my health and happiness was worth more than suppsed"stress free" unprotected sex. Aside from all the physical side effects I suffered (including almost a total loss in libido among MANY other things), I was an emotional rollercoaster. Loved you one minute, couldn't stand the sight of your face the next. Trusted you one minute, thought you were out to get me the next minute. Euphoria is a great way to describe what my body AND mind felt like after going off of it.
