Real quick question about Mirena Birth Control

I have had my Mirena for almost 4 years with a period every month on the day, however I was never told I needed to check the threads so this is all new to me I dont even know how to do this. The other thing that is a huge worry rite now is I have been on anitbiotcs for a month and now I seem to have missed a period that is ALWAYS REGULAR!!! Is this birth control effected by antibiotics??? Does anyone know?

I was told to check my strings periodically but when i tried the first time i couldn't feel them. I was worried for a bit but was told by many people that sometimes the strings are cut very short or can go up into the cervix over time. Unless you are in pain or feel like the IUD is out of place i really wouldn't worry about the strings. I would have gone to see a doc for them to check them but i have no insurance, but if you have insurance it wouldn't hurt for them to check on them.

As for the antibiotics, i have read that with oral birth control (the pill) loses effectiveness because of the interaction with it and the antibiotics in the digestive tract. So since mirena isn't in your digestive tract there shouldn't be any interaction. But then again if you want to make sure you can always call a doc and ask. Even a nurse hotline would work, not sure if you have those but its worth a shot. I wouldn't worry too much! You might have missed your period from being stressed about being sick.

Mirena is a hormonal IUD so yes birth control can affect its effectiveness however it is not a substantial amount. Just like taking antibiotics with any other type of hormonal birth control the doctors and nurses will advise patients to use backup methods like condoms while taking the antibiotics just so protection is always topped off. It DOES NOT mean you can get pregnant instantly or without a doubt any time you have sex it only means the effectiveness of the IUD drops a bit during the time you take the antibiotics. The IUD itself is about 98-99% effective, with antibiotics it can drop to about 95-97% so it is a drop but not substantial and does not mean an automatic pregnancy is on the way. There is always risk of pregnancy no matter what method is used with or without antibiotics.

ive never been able to feel my iud strings
i have bad cysts so i have several ultrasounds a year to pattern them for when i want to have kids so i dont worry too much about it being in place
my last strings were cut too short and they had to remove it via d and c.... annoying
maybe assk your doctor if you should be worried - but if you have had it for 4 years you are due for a change soon anyway

              Getting Mirena Removed

I'm getting my mirena removed in a week after having it for a year and 3 months. What should I except after it is removed?

Mirena- How long will cramps last after fitting?

I had my Mirena fitted on April fools day (todays the 12thn April) so It's been just over a week. How long should I expect to have cramps? I know that within the first 2 weeks fast movement and walking up the stairs can induce some pain whilst the Mirena is getting comfy so I've gone with it. I've had cramps everyday since my fitting and I'm not particularly bothered about them lasting for a while I'm just curious.

As for the fitting...It was the most painful experience of my life. I'd taken the 2 advised painkillers before hand, I had 2 lots of anaesthetic during and the Doctor gave me 2 pain killers afterwards...not that any of them made the slightest bit of difference. As soon as I left the nurses office I burst into tears and didn't stop crying until I went to bed that night. My mum eventually gave me some Tramadol and it was magical! I don't think that in my 19 years of living I've ever experienced something so painful and I don't think I've ever sweated as much either. He said he'd see me in 5 years for my removal and renewal, I said 'Jog on'.

Oh, and get this, my 6 week check up is on Friday 13th. They're having a laugh!
The joke of it is I've had it fitted to hopefully ease my period pains and so far i've had over a week of cramps like never before! That'll learn me...

Completely random. I had cramps for 3 weeks nonstop until my body pushed mine out. I went back to the doctor and they refused to give me any painkillers "In case something was wrong" and then said "but cramps and pain are completely normal". I finally got some hydrocodone so long as I went for an ultrasound which I think all places should do as a standard after inserting an IUD but only a small portion do. The hydrocodone did nothing. On the other hand some people walk out of the office and never notice a thing for the next 5 years until it's removed.

There are also a dozen ways to insert an iud and tons of things they can do to lessen pain. Not all places do them. Some places do nothing. I was told to take some ibuprofen that morning and then they clamped my cervix open (nothing to dilate it, no anesthesia) and shoved the IUD in.

                    Mirena Coil Question

                    Hi there,

I had mirena placed about a month ago and I have noticed that every time I smoke now that I have horrible and painful attacks (I thought at first my body was having an allergic reaction to the iud), now I am starting to think that the hormones in the iud actually react with the marijuana and cause these problems. I am not sure if you figured out the problem, but if it not the marijuana then I would really like to know if there is just something with the iud that my body does not tolerate well.

                      Mirena coil confusion!

I have had the mirena for almost 4 years now. When i had it fitted my periods stopped immediately which was great but i started to notice a lot of other things changing too. I am not sure if this is just coincidence orn a direct result of the coil. I think the best way to do this is to list my problems and if anyone has experiences that mirror mine it would be good to hear about them.

                      1. Loss of sex drive :-(
                      2. Very tender and painful breasts
                      3. Very short tempered
                      4. Abdominal pains
                      5. Random shooting pains in the groin area
                      6. Pain during sex
                      7. Bleeding during sex
                      8. Occasional light/medium bleeding
                      9. Migranes

                      Well thats my list!
Also i get movement in my tummy that feel like a baby kicking! Sounds crazy but even my husband has felt it. I am 100% not pregnant as i have done tests!
