    Hi Steph 112,

I am sorry you are feeling this way. I have had 3 mirenas in my life and have not had a period for 12 years. I have only had one of the mirenas put in while i was awake (my second mirena) and I too have never been pregnant. It was excruciating and I screamed and cried, my mother who is a nurse rarely gets rattled and she was visibly upset by the pain i was being caused. When those 5 years were up, i knew i would never have it put in again while i was awake. After every time i have had the mirena put in, i bled for a few days (with lots of cramping) and then it leveled off and I only now get a breakthrough bleed (that is what i call it even though i only have brown discharge for an hour or so) once or twice a year. I do, however, get pretty painful cramps most months when i would be 'due' for my period.

If you check the last page of 'Mirena Coil Side Effects', i have posted the reason why i am having the Mirena removed next Friday. I don't know if the Mirena over the past 12 years is the main cause of all my problems but I am going to have it removed and see how i feel in a few months. I pray that it does help because no one deserves to live the way i have been living.

Please don't let anyone scare you off. Many people have had wonderful experiences with the Mirena and so have I. It differs for each person. Up until 2 weeks ago i would be recommending the Mirena to all and sundry but then i googled Mirena side effects and found out a lot of people have been feeling exactly how i have been feeling. I would recommend you give it a chance and then that way you haven't been through all that agony for nothing and you can tell everyone you really gave it a try. Listen to your body.

    Good luck!

    Bonnie

      Considering Essure

      Hi guys,
I have had a long struggle with different types of birth control and to be honest I am just tired of it all. I am 35 yrs old and have 2 children, 18 and 13. I am considering the Essure as an option. I would like some input from you all about your experiences. I've read some of the older posts and just wondered if things have improved in the last few years.
I have also thought about just doing the tubal ligation due to so many "Oops's". I do not want more children. I have been blessed with a boy and a girl.
Thank you ahead of time for helping.
      Jen

If you are sure that you are done having babies, why not go with the tried and true and get a tubal? Essure seems to have too many variables and complications. Doesn't seem worth it.

That is what I started thinking after reading the posts on this site.

I've read a couple of successes, but as you've found out there appears to be alot of women who did not know the whole proceedure, that were not told that there is no conclusive proof you still won't get pregnant and in some instances, ill fitted, perhaps, non-sufficient training...

Certainly, some posters could be plants but so many saying no don't do it, I wouldn't do it...

I had the procedure done in 2009 and everything was going great, then I started having pain during intercoarse with my fiance, not all the time but in certain positions. But the pain has been getting worse over the months and I'm going to make an MD appointment. If I only knew then what I know now.... If you decide to get it done, Good Luck.

I had my Mirena inserted November 2008. It perforated my uterus and is migrating around my abdomen slowly. I have xrays and CT scans to prove it.

Hi in all honesty I am shocked to be reading all this about mirena. I am 28 and I had mine after my 3rd child I told doc insurance is iffy need something for a long time and fact that if no insurance then no birth control. I had mine put in march or april of 06. Can't remember but have card still in my purse everything went fine wasn't bad and bled hard for 2 months following then nothing since. I honestly hate it for the fact that how do you know if you aren't pregnant without a period. I read and read pamplet no where did it say I would lose periods or any side effects really but major ones like death if you get std and stuff. so I would keep a stock pile of test and check every few months. now I can't feel my strings and never could. Haven't had insurance since I had it in but went to a clinic almost a year ago to check everything and all was fine. They offered the 10y. Iud like mirena but doc said only difference with 10y. you have periods and Mirena none. I am not sure when they actually put it on their site and pamplets about no bleeding but mine didn't say that. I have all that the women above say but honestly I never thought it could be from Mirena for one I have back issues since my 2nd child in 03 was nothing ever major and now seems like all the time. I've had migranes before and after mirena. One thing I'm really concerned about but no ins no money for doc is a lot of the time I have major pains feels like uterus or somewhere round there real sharp stabbing pains sometimes have brought me to my knees. Doc at clinic said could of been cyst that popped!!??? I'm like what? also acne that never seems to go away tired alot and just feeling blah can't seem to bring myself to do much. I never knew of any of the side effects till now and wonder how much of it is me or mirena?

                    Mrs. T
I would try to find a way to get it checked if you cannot feel the strings. When I got my mirena a little over a year ago I hadn't heard of any side affects. My son was a little over 3 years old and I wanted to get something I wouldn't have to deal with for a while. I wish I would have never got it! The last year has been horrible! Im getting mine taken out next week and can't wait. If you are having the same problems as I am then YES it is from the mirena. I hope you find a way to get everything checked out!
