    Essure problems

I'm new here trying to find out more about this essure procedure. I had it doen in June and have started to have severe abdominal pain which required me to be hospitalized for 4 days and was just released yesterday. Two weeks ago I was hopsitalized for the same abdominal pain and wasn't told until this last episode that my coil had disloged and is now in my uterus. The doctors and the on call ob/gyn are convinced that there is no way that this is causing my pain however all my ct scans and x-rays have come back normal. The hospital did not want to remove the coil and said that I needed to have it removed by the ob that put it in. This can't be done until sometime next week possibly. They are making me feel like I'm crazy! They even called the drug rep for essure who of course told them that there is no way it was causing my pain??!! I'm worried that this is more serious than they are making it out to be and that I'll end up in surgery or having a hysterectomy. I guess at this point I'm just reaching out for help. Anyone else had similar problems??

moleary, Yes there are those who have faced what you are facing. I was also told that there was no way the essure metal coils could be the cause of my pain. My doctor also called Conceptus the maker of essure and they assured the doctor that the cause of my pain could not be from the essure metal coils. Guess what they were wrong. I know this thread is long but you should read all of it. You should also read the threads on Aphrodites. Aphrodites started a whole forum for essure due to all the posts about this procedure. I keep posting because I have done too much research and I am horrified at the whole process. The research has led me to looking at how things are done at the FDA and drug/device manufacturers influence on the doctors and healthcare profession. I'm not a conspiracy theory person but Big Pharma has more input on your life than you could ever imagine. There are many myths about the FDA approval process and the so called medical malpractice situation with doctors. I am shocked. Funny also that since I began encouraging women to make the adverse events reports the FDA has started having technical difficulties and some reports are no longer on the site or have all the narratives taken out so you can't tell what happened. Essure has too many potential problems for it to survive which is probably why the company execs sold off their stock.
I don't doubt your experience at all. Given what I've seen with parabens and some other things... I don't believe that the FDA works to protect the American people so much as it does certain businesses. I think we will eventually see something similar about the vacinations to prevent cervical cancer. One of my sisters was a DES baby, she and her children are at high risk for cancer (she's already had melanoma) she was born with some birth problem that she fortunately mostly out grew and our mother was actually at no risk for a miscarriage.

Thanks, I was really starting to feel crazy until I found this forum. Now I'm worried that I'm going to fight an up hill battle with the doctors about getting this removed. They even went as far to tell me that my insurance won't cover the removal. But they did tell me that the essure company has generously offered to pay for the removal and re-insertion....like ! I know I don't want it put back in but I'm not sure what they will do now with the coil that is in place? Im scared, worried and paranoid at this point.

moleary, Try changing doctors and call your insurance company. My insurance paid for removal of my metal coils especially since I was having trouble. Your doctor was probably preceptoring. There were probably essure reps present and they did the procedure or supervised the doctor.

I still wonder why my doctor did it to me. I wonder why any good doctor would use this procedure given all the potential for problems.

I went in for the Essure procedure yesterday. I was excited about it, and had done my research. My Dr. assured me it would be a 15-minute, no-pain procedure. I was supposed to have a local anesthesia and be ready to go home in an hour. 3 hours later, as I was waking up in recovery, I learned that "things had not gone as planned" and was given general anesthesia, as well as a lacroscopic tubal ligation, complete with 3 incisions on my stomach! My tubes had been completely removed, with not much of an explanation. Not sure what happened, but just wondering if anyone else had experienced this? Tubal ligation is not something I would have chosen to do, with recovery being a week (instead of a day) and with two busy small children.
Now that I'm lucid, I will have many , many questions for my Doctor, but I was just wondering if anyone had experienced anything like this before?

Sounds like you should talk to a lawyer.

I had the Essure done in November of 2006 the procedure was a little painful and the doctor told me I would have light cramps afterword.24 hours after it was done I had to call the doctor I was not having light cramps it felt like labor pains it hurt very badly.I also was bleeding very heavy he told me it would pass but it didn't after they checked 3 months later the procedure had taken fine my tubes were closed but the problems kept getting worse.I went back to the doctor and he tried to say I was going through menopause at 23 and thats what was causing the problems but I didn't have any of these problems until I had the essure done.I bleed sometimes for 2 months straight very heavy I have bad lower back pain and very painful cramps also I have sharp pains in my lower left stomach. It has been a horrible experience wish I would have never got it.I have tried to se other OBGYN's and they wont touch me they tell me to go back to the doctor that preformed the procedure so I have kind of been stuck but they have told me that I was not going through menopause. So if anyone has any information that might help me you can email me Baby_Sha_19yahoo.com.Also if anyone is trying to get a class action lawsuit going I would like to get the info on that.

I had the procedure done in March of 07 and I have had quite a few problems with it as well. I had to be put to sleep to do it not just an in office procedure, I got out of surgery and was sent home with a prescription of Vicodin, I had severe back pains and cramping in my lower abdomen. I also get migraines at least 3-4 times a week that puts me in bed everytime and I'm constantly living off of Excedrin pain relievers. Ever since then I have a very heavy flow period every other week and it hurts to have sex at all. After I had the procedure done my estrogen levels have dropped and it is very hard for me to get "in the mood" for any "relations". After sex I am always swollen in my lower abdomen and I have cramps for a few days. I have a constant pinching sensation on my left and right sides in my tubes that I have had since I had the procedure done. I haven't been to a doctor to check on it because to be blatanly honest I just can't afford it. I haven't gotten pregnant or lost the coils yet and I am hoping I don't. I absolutely can not have anymore children, I am 25 years old and I have extremely high uncontrolled blood pressure and 3 doctors told me while I was pregnant with my second son it would kill me if I got pregnant again. So I had the Essure procedure done because the shots wouldn't take and they wouldn't do a hysterectomy on a 22 year old. Like Shalia said, I would like to know if there are any kind of lawsuits against the makers of Essure, because I have had nothing but trouble and problems since I had it done.
