      My Essure Experience

So, I am shocked at some of the stories, but sometimes I wonder if it is the actual coils or the lack of knowledge of the person inserting them? I had a Mirena before and loved it, but wanted something permanent. I was put to sleep for mine, and felt fine a couple days later. My first period after having the procedure was very heavy and long. They actually put me on a hormone drug to regulate it. I do have occassional cramping on my left side, but nothing major. I went yesterday for my HSG, to check if they were occluded and they were. I must say, for me, the confirmation test had a lot of pressure, but wasn't much worse than a yearly exam. I have since had some spotting and cramping, but nothing Advil hasn't helped. I will say my doctor actually performed the confirmation test at the hospital, not a radiologist, he did everything and just had someone taking the xrays, etc. So maybe thats why it wasn't so bad for me is because hes more experienced. And, I was asleep during insertion when I originally had my essure, so I am sure that relaxed me more and made things easier. I cannot say I will never have issues with Essure, but for now, I am happy. As with all new things, there is trial and error. And, side effects, its different for everyone. Good luck

I wanted to post that my husband who has had bypass went to the doctor & they did a biopsy which thankfully was negative. They told him to put peroxide on it daily to see if it was just some sort of infection. If it doesn't clear up then they may need to look at surgically removing it. I googled sternum chest wire & found some info where there are some cases of people developing infection from the metal wire, there are some cases where the wire errodes, there are some where the wire that is twisted comes undone. Haven't done enough research yet so I don't know enough about this other than to say that bypass surgery is usually a life saving procedure, essure metal coils are not. He had the surgery 14 years ago. The metal wire has been in his chest that long & has just now started causing problems

Lisa85, the best way I can think to explain the scar tissue problem is to think of a turkey. The turkey has tissue over it which is sort of like the scar tissue. Say you want to go in and look at something inside the turkey. You could cut through the "scar tissue" and do what you need to or you could go in between the leggs and look at it from the inside. If you have scar tissue around your fallopian tubes it would have to be cut out before a tubal could be done. If you have problems with hemmoraging this creates a huge problem since making a laceration will cause a lot of bleeding and put you at a higher risk of infection. This is why the standard tubals are becoming obsolete. Not to mention it would create more scar tissue which can be painful to some people. A close friend of mine had severe abdominal pains and had to have a mass of scar tissue removed. I had the Essure done back in September and I have not had any problems and there are plenty of women who have also been successful with it. With any procedure you have the goods and bads. Unfortunately, we can't tell 100% which we will be.

            Essure Failure - Pregnant

Hi, I have been reading threads for years to see what others say about things but this is the first time I have posted in a forum. I thought it be appropriate as my circumstances may be helpful and informative to others.
After having my 4th child, there was no doubt that I wanted to find a permanent form of birth control. I am 35 years old and adament I didn't want any more children. I opted to have the essure procedure as after much research it was claiming to have the lowest failure rate and seemed less invasive. When my 4th child was just over six weeks old I had the operation done. The x-ray at the three month mark to show if they were placed properly and had blocked the tubes successfully was confirmed and I was sent on my way to having a future pregnancy free life. The first month my period returned after giving up breastfeeding I fell pregnant without my knowledge. As my period was expected to be irregular at that time it wasn't until I was 8 weeks pregnant that the pregnancy was detected. I had scans expecting the pregnancy to be ectopic or something to be wrong but it showed that everything was normal. My Gyno and the essure company who I contacted when I found out was gobsmacked and so was I. After much crying my husband and I decided to proceed with the pregnancy and I am now 37 weeks. I was tested for downs and other abnormalities by way of CVS and everything has shown up normal. So, in conclusion. Nothing really is failsafe. Always be prepared that any form of contraception may fail. My husband has since had a vasectomy to prevent any further pregnancies as I am not sure where I stand on that subject. I think I should just stop holding his hand to be 100% sure. Anyway, baby number 5 is nearly here and I have just had to get used to the idea. Thanks for listening. Hope this information helps someone.

              One placement only

I have terrible pregnancies (hyperamesis) and cannot take any birth control with any chemicals. I had the Essure procedure done just today. The doctor was able to place the coil around the right tube but could not get it around the left tube. While placing the coil around the right one I had no problems. But I felt all of the pain when he attempted to do the left one. I am not waiting for it to expel or anything else. I am going to schedule a tubal and will have the only and remaining coil removed. I will keep you all posted of any complications if any, but I plan to have the tubal before it even happens.

Happy to hear that your pregnancy is going well. Thanks for sharing. It means a lot to women who may be faced with pregnancy to know that they can have a normal pregnancy with the metal coils in place.

Check out the latest reports on maude FDA database. Key in essure as product & Conceptus as the manufacturer. There are some new reports. You can change the dates to see other time frames. Keep in mind that the FDA itself estimates that less than 1% of adverse events are actually reported. Bottom line is we can't depend on the company or the doctors to make those reports so I encourage everyone who has problems to make reports.

I had the Essure done about 3 months ago and ever since i get terrible cramps all throughout my right side... Sometimes i feel like crying it hurts so bad. My Dr says its not from the Essure but i never experienced this until after i had it done. I go tuesday for my three month checkup and i hope they cand find out what is making me hurt so bad. I am seriously thinking of having them removed. I would not reccomend this to anyone.

Hi! The best advice I can give you is that you know your body & it is your body not the doctors. If you've read thru many of the posts you will notice that many doctors will not admit that the essure metal coils could be the problem. Some of us have been pretty much told it is all in our heads. Some of us have had to really insist that they look at the metal coils as the cause of our continued pain. Some of us have even changed doctors till we find someone who is willing to help us. I can tell you that I had 2 transvaginal which were called normal even though they couldn't even see the metal coils. Finally did a regular xray. The right side definately did not look right but the doctor said the tubes are sometimes shaped funny so that didn't mean there was a problem. Went to different doctor & they removed them. The right one had perforated & from what the operative report says it looks like the left was making its way up the tube & potentially into my abdomen. They were not where they were placed. I have pictures of perfectly placed coils taken during placement. They took a trip after placement. Just be strong. It is your body. Don't let them push you around just because they are doctors. Hope that helps
