Every vaginal culture they do comes back with group b strep! Some swear there's no symptoms with this bacteria, but if that's all i am being tested positive for, for over a year and a half. I beg to differ.

I had a tubal pregnancy last Sept 2007 and after I lost the pregnancy at 6 weeks. I started testing positive for this for a year and a half now. I get a vaginal infection once a month usualyy the third week of each month. If this is happening to any other women can you private message me on here, I keep telling my Dr I cant bear the thought of having this infection once a month for the rest of my life. It has even been affecting my marriage. Plus financial with all the dr visits. They say there's no cure so I feel basically I am SOL. I have seen about 5 ob gyns and 2 family Drs now I have been asked to go see an infectious disease dr to see if there is any vaccination/shot that counteract the symptoms! Please give any advice/experience you can. I appreciate it!
I am having the exact same problems as you are but they dont know the cause i get infection every 3rd week as well and i had a tubal pregnancy april 18 2008. 25% of women are carriers for group B strep. My mom used to get infections frequently as well but she passed it off as yeast, I decided to go to the doctor and she told me how to do the culture myself. I just got my antibiotics today (amoxicilan) and i got another pill (dyflucam sp?) in case i get a yeast infection from the antibiotics. If i were you i would research a different OB or doctor near you that has more experience with it. My doctor is taking steps to stop the infections from coming all together.

I have recently stopped taking my birth control pills because the $$ coupled with my other medication was too much for me to handle. At the same time I began taking acidophilous and I've noticed a difference. Normally a week before my period i would have the itching and discomfort. it has been 2 months since I have been off of the pill and no problems. In the past, when I told my doctor that I experienced symptoms a week before my period he said that it could not be possible since I was on the pill.

My acidophilous runs out in a few days. I will let you know if there is a change for the worst while being off of it.

Together we will find a solution

        Not Pregnant- Still a Nightmare

        Hello All,
So I have been struggeling with what I believed to be just serious yeast infections for about 2 years now.I have a horrible order, always very moist and can vary in color. I have seen different Gynos and NONE of them have been able to give me long term relief or tell me what was really going on. Like most of you I have been given the pills, the creams, the inserts, and nothing has worked. Today I was told by my old pediatrician and long-term physician (who had take a culture), that I have Strep B! Never heard of it before, not sure how is caused. I have googled it and found that its mostly in prego women... I had a miscarriage about 3 months ago... maybe this is why. He just put me on an antibiotic so I will begin it tomorrow. I have read some of your posts and think I will try a probiotic as well!

I will update you guys with anything I find. Hopefully we can all beat this eventually, if its possible.

Any more advice from the experienced would be GREAT!

        Thanks,
        A.rose

I have not had a problem for a couple months (Knock on Wood). I don't know if you are on birth control but that might be part of the problem. I have stopped taking them and used tea tree suppositories for six days and since then it has been problem free. speak to your doctor about making the changes. Currently I take vitamin C, probiotic pearls and cranberry supplements and something seems to work. I would advise you to speak to your doctor before taking anything. There is something that is causing the body to react to the Strep B. All of the research I have read indicates that women who carry strep B do not normally exhibit any symptoms. My doctor also told me not to worry about being a carrier. All of this leads me to believe that exhibiting symptoms is not typical.

          Hope this helps

            Me too!

I am so glad I found this forum. I too, am NOT pregnant, but have been told I have GBS.

I have been experiencing UTI (urinary tract infection) symptoms for several months and antibiotics don't seem to help. I get a little better but symptoms don't fully go away. Not the typical burning, but urgency, muscle pain like I held my pee for a long time, and seems almost like something is blocking my flow. Sorry TMI!

And like some of you other girls, I had some wierd BV cases that didn't go away until several treatments were done, that was last year. I am starting to think I am way out of wack with all my bacteria or whatever. I have had two pregnancies and had the usual testing for GBS and was neg. (??)

I am now on my third round of antibiotics for this UTI which I absolutely hate. I am like many of you who prefer the natural route but when you are desperate you will try anything! First they put me on Bactrim, then Microbid, now I'm told GBS doesn't respond to those, but will to Amoxocillin. Call me crazy, but it seems like we are taking a step back with that one.

I guess we'll see what happens. I have 7 days to see if I improve. Don't you just love how they just write a Rx to get you out of the office but don't really play detective to find the cause? (sorry, a little frusterated here!) I mean, going pee every 20-30 minutes is NOT fun.

I have never thought to take probiotics WITH antibiotics. I always think I should do it after I'm done with my Rx. DUH!! Thanks to whoever's post(s) mentioned that. My current plan is to give these last antibiotics a go and if that doesn't work seek out a specialist or Naturopath. I will keep you all posted.

And thank you to all those who shared your experiences. It feels good to know you are not alone, and since the Dr's are all just "practicing medicine" hopefully we can all learn from each other.

Please continue with the updates. I wish us ALL to find answers. If any of you are on FB please inbox me if you don't mind so we can compare stories/treatements.

              Hello girls,
I’m 20 years old and about four months ago I was diagnosed with Strep B. I get mild swelling, itching, loads of discharge and the most horrible fishy odour, which has interfered with my sex, social and work life greatly. For years I’ve been prone to yeast infections so I’ve done everything by the book to maintain a healthy, clean vagina (so I thought). I’ve tried a couple of treatments you have all suggested and they’ve helped massively with the swelling and itching, Thankyou! But I’m still struggling ALOT with controlling the foul odour, which I’m very paranoid about. The odour is at its worst a week or so before my period and lasts until a week after my period has finished, then I’m hit with a mild yeast infection. After the worst has passed, I still have the fishy smell (a little more mild) and discharge. Thus the cycle continues. Please help!!

PS, I'm new to this site and I apologize if i've posted my comment in the wrong area!

                    Dear Member,

My heart goes out to you I too started suffering with BV and that smell about two years ago, I found out that toxic mold in my home was to blame and a whole bunch of other illness along with it. That smell can be treated overnight and disapear with a product called relaguard, the pharmacies quit carring it when rephresh came out on the open shelves. You will be happy to know its the same thing, I use it the week before my period and it balances the PH levels and prevents that infection. as soon as you notice even even a faint smell use it for three days and then only as needed after that. It can get expensive at 18.00 for four treatments but coupons can be found ob the makers website. The word id getting out and sometimes walgreens and cvs run out quick so you may want to ask your local pahrmacy to stock it for you. I know this may sound gross but bear with me it works. If you insert your pointy finger into your vagina and then rub your finger and thumb together vigoriously until its dried, you will smell it when present, The friction causes the odor to appear prior to the infection increase when you smell it bad. I was just diagnosed with strep throat and have strep in eyes as well. I think the strep may change its compounds depending on the area it is infecting. Being a mold sufferer I am so sick of doctors treating people like idiots and telling us that it cant cause problems when hundreds of woman are on the net saying yes it does. If they dont know just say it dont be so condisending. we have to communicate with eachother and try new treatments to find a cure. They laughed the doctor that found out ulcers were from bacteria off the medical floor and it almost cost him his license but he kept pushing and now he is honored for his work. I think mold and bacteria are a scary area for the medical community and they know that if most americans new the true dangers they would freak out and panic as well as question pharmasudical companies for using some of these compounds in medical treatments. what works for some do not work for others but everyone i know uses refresh (rephresh) or replense it works period. I hope this helps i know the odor can devistate a woman and a relationship. Please take care and also watch your potassium levels.

                      Scared out of my mind

                      Hello all,

I am 23 and the last year has been . I Just went into the Gyno today to get checked for painful intercourse that I have been having for over a year now. But last night randomly I started itching. Right away I knew what it was... B Strep, because I have gotten it before the same way. So I tell her about it today and she is like I don't know why they treated you for it last month because we usually do not treat it, which by the way I was given Penicillin for. I tried telling her that I was in complete agony last month. I couldn't even walk. I had to soak in hot baths. I iced it just to get monostate* in because I thought it was yeast at first. It was raw, red, sore,...ect. So after looking at me today for about two sec. and I was like is that it, she said what else did you want me to do?? She sits down and tells me that I have some other bacteria infection sorry forgot name because I have had so many in the past year that is causing B Strep and she prescribed me Clindamycin which I see doesn't help B-strep but its suppose to make this other bacterial infection go away that she said I had and that it was probably the cause of painful intercorse. I am so stressed out and scared because she showed no remorse and I have had anxiety about this for over a year. You name it... Iv'e had it. Ecoli, BV, Yeast, UTI, B Strep now 3 times. I have been with the same partner for over a year. She then proceeds to tell me straight out with no warning I think you have Herpes and thats why you have had so many issues down there and I want blood work done...so yeah and leaves the office basically. She left me there in silence. I was shocked and hurt and in an undiscribable amount of panic. I couldn't believe what was just said to me. With no compassion at all. I then got the blood taken and was told I would have to wait till Monday. ARE you KIDDING me! Thats 6 days... So this women not only scared me to death, had me crying all day and making me have really bad thoughts I scramned to find a place that would have results sooner. I had to pay 203 dollars out of pocket to go some where else the get results for Thursday. I am just so ready to be done. I love my b\f and we used to be so passionate... and now can never do anything... and I feel horrible, and so scared I am ready to do IDK what. IDK what to do anymore. Any answers??
