That's a horrible example. It's normal for flies to do it. A lot of flies when in that specific situation take a specific action. Humans, on the other hand, do not. So yes, it's normal for flies to do it. But saying let's "all" when speaking of all readers of this forum, who are all human, is not reasonable. Because we are not flies. -
Wait here's another one.
Most people believe that the sun revolves around the earth. But some guy's girlfriend gets upset that he believes something like that. And everyone tells her not to worry, it's normal.
That's a pretty common example of where just because most people were thinking a certain way, didn't make it correct, morally right, or useful in any way.Comment

I was being sarcastic and gave you an extreme example of "when millions do it then it's normal". It's a rather common expression, actually. But even so, you see how you reacted when I said "it's normal" and you rushed to prove that I was being unreasonableThat's a horrible example. It's normal for flies to do it. But another example:
Millions of women cheat on their husbands because they don't get enough sex at home. I guess that makes it normal as well.Comment

I don't completely understand. It's the earth that actually revolves around the sun. Most people do not believe that. Most people know the truth.Wait here's another one.

Once again, this logic is flawed.Comment

Cheating isn't the same as porn. I never said that normal = correct. And even so, unless you can prove to me that over 50% of women cheat on their husband then it is not in fact normal. Just because "millions" do it, doesn't mean that's anywhere near normal in most marriages or even relationships.
Let's say 10 million women cheat in all relationships. That 10x the minimum requirement for your "millions claim. Now there are 300 million people living in America. For the sake of arguments let's just say an even 150 million exactly are women. That would mean that the ten million are far from the norm.Comment

OK. Then in that scenario it would be the girlfriend who had to get with the program. We all know that there are things common science is wrong about this very day. But we believe them because we have no choice and it's what we do to not look like a complete idiot. It wouldn't be the boyfriends fault for excepting a belief that he was taught his whole life. It's the girlfriend who had to change her beliefs.Originally posted by Mes_T
I'm talking about what people used to believe, and this was a very common belief back in the day. Notice how I used the past tense in the second part of my post.
They used to believe this, and it was normal back then.
But now that we've been enlightened, we can see that that thinking was wrong. Despite it seemingly being so "normal."
Btw outbound links aren't allowed.
And I'm not even saying that the OP in this situation has to change her beliefs in regards to porn. But in that case, yes, she would have to.Comment

1) You can't prove that 50% of men watch porn (not that it would make it normal).
2) By picking on each of the examples you miss the point we are trying to make.
3) You also agree that just because millions of people do something doesn't make it 'normal'.
4) Porn is an easily accessible masturbation enhancement. It's masturbation that is normal for humans, considering they don't have a partner and need a release. Not the enhancement. People can masturbate without porn. Anything additional is a choice, not a need.Comment

i can prove that. But no links allowed. Which i hate. Because i'm really itching to post it
2) by picking on each of the examples you miss the point we are trying to make.
no. I understand the point. But for it to be valid the logic must be sound. I understand the point though. I just want an example that can prove it.
3) you also agree that just because millions of people do something doesn't make it 'normal'.
yes. But my claim wasn't just that "millions" do it. It was that over 50% do. Which i define as normal

no it isn't a need. But, so?Comment
