I admit I would personally find the situation to be creepy and uncomfortable, but I can also totally understand why you found it exciting. It is nice to know that a complete stranger can find you to be attractive enough to say something like that.
Part of why I would be uncomfortable myself is that I simply cannot take a compliment, and I am also a complete "prude" even though I am only 21.
Also I would not be surprised if your friend wasn't being 100% honest when she said gave her reaction to you. She, like you, would probably worry that it is a bad sign to be excited by something like that. So I think your reaction is a normal, human response to a rather uncommon/unusual situation

There is a big difference between innocent flirting between a random man and a woman and flat out going too far. Having a man say "you look good in red" or something is innocent, having a man say "I'm married but want to see you on your hands and knees" is blunt, strong, and honestly going too far. A man choosing words like that means he likely wants that shock response, he likes the shock response so he went right for it. Men often know that simply saying "you look sexy" can be a bit much to say to a random woman knowing that not all women like to be commented on randomly. This man could have ended his pursuit at "I think you are extremely sexy" but no he went further he went and touched her during the comment. To me that right there is a red flag he is doing it with a disregard for how she may react, men may make some pretty strange comments in an attempt to flirt with a woman but touching a random woman...that does not happen often because a lot of men know if you touch without permission that brings it into a whole other "get out of my personal space" bubble. He went more extreme, more likely to get an unfavored response...why? Only that man knows, it could have been genuine and maybe the result of an unhappy marriage, maybe he had no idea how to flirt and went for the first thing he could think of, or maybe he is a genuine creep. I think it would have been far better and honestly more acceptable for that man to say something along the lines of "you are sexy" rather than mentioning he is married and wants this woman to get on her hands and knees for him.
Now I totally understand the whole red flag thing. But I find it rather annoying that society finds it ok if women do the touching while making a comment or flirting, but if a man does it OH MY GOSH .... Being single myself and talking to women I have many that touch my arm, shoulder, sides all while calling me dear or hun. Yes they also get very verbal. This seems to be the same as clothing being worn. A woman can walk around with very little on and nobody thinks much of it, but let a man do it and Oh gosh world is ending lol. Ever been on any of the dating sites? Hundreds of women's profile with pictures of them in bikinis yet all the same women ***** about guys with photos with there shirts off ?????????? Just my rant..... Personally I think society is taking things too far, too serious, the guy probably didn't even realize some people would take offense to that statement. "touch without permission" wow I better call the cops on all the women that brush up against my butt "unintentionally of course fffsss" So a society judge can look at me and say " Oh you liked it" but if it was the other way around a man would be in jail....hmmmmmmmm
