My questian is, is it ok to masturbate? What about with a vibrater? I know the Bible doe not say much about this. I have read that masturbating is wrong by God.

The Bible only mentions masturbation once. It involved some guy I can't remember "wasting his seed" instead of having sex.

I propose 2 things from this:

1. masturbation as "waste" is only bad for men. women do not waste unused eggs when they climax.

2. masturbation was only wrong because the man didn't have sex with his wife. factor in the Church's ideas of marriage masturbation is OK for single men. No wives = no waste.

hmm I'm a male and too keeping myself till marriage anyway masturbation is ok but the problem is that when u masturbate u fantasize and thats against one of the 10 commitments "sorry english is not my mother language didn't know how to translate it" anyway adultery i think it is but mental wise but as a priest once told me in a confession he said its ok as long as u fantasize about ur husband or wife not a specific person i hope u got the idea and sorry again this is the clearest point i can reach

sorry for the multi posts my personal opinion about the whole thing is that we do many sins everyday and in the end its a balance of the good and evil u do in ur life that makes u a good person or not so just don't worry about it and concentrate on the other stuff u do we are not saints in the end

Horsecrazy, the only thing you have to pay close attention to is your heart. You can call it anything you want-conscience, part of God, higher self, angels, instincts. Listen to that voice and it will never steer you to the wrong path. It is great that you study the Bible, I have also, because it is a good guide but remember that it has been edited numerous times depending on what the priest at that time wanted. Also note that it was not written till hundreds of years after Christ's death. He did not leave any written records on purpose because you do not need them in order to hear him. Sit in the stillness and you will hear him.
Well that's enough about philosophy.
I also saved myself for my husband so you can see I am pretty traditional. I never masturbated till a couple of months ago. I'm 45. Why? I should have before I got married because it would have helped me learn about my body and I think it helps you think more clearly or more logically. When you're constantly aroused it's hard to think about anything else. The reason I started masturbating now is because I had never had an orgasm with my husband and I wanted to see what it was like. I enjoy sex with him immensely, much more so than masturbation. Masturbation gets old fast so it could never replace sex with a man. For me it is just a means to an end. Is it a sin? I don't think so and it's a shame that I spent 24 years not having one. God didn't give us the ability in order for it to be waisted.

We had a conversation about this in R.E class. We were told it's wrong for a man to masturbate because he is wasting his sperm which should be used for making babies.
We were also told it's wrong for men to be gay for the same reasons. But what confused me was the fact that we were told it's okay for women to be gay because they weren't wasting anything...but their eggs were going to waste weren't they?!
Basically, nobody knows..do it if you want to and don't do it if you don't.

I usually try to stay clear of any discussions that have some kind of religious theme because they can turn out to be destructive but I am a bit confused by your post.

I do understand that you have problems with and do not agree in religion dictating how people live. Were you possibly stating that bringing a child up, or at least trying to bring up a child with some kind of religious background isn't what you would consider normal? or were you referring to the fact that the girl does not seem to be held accountable by her parent(s) for her actions by trying to cover them up?

I agree that what you have had to deal with is terrible and I don't blame you for having a bad taste in your mouth where religion is concerned. It doesn't help the religious cause when we are exposed to those that claim to be Christians who seem to be nothing more than hypocrites and turn a blind eye to what's happening within their own families.

You're right it's not God that deals with the unwanted children/stds etc. ..... at least not directly. But I don't think it was, or is his intention that we should have to either. Even if you are not a religious person you have to admit that if everyone lived by the guidelines that were given to us by God in the Bible most of these scenarios - stds, unwanted pregnancies, etc. - wouldn't exist.

In comment to those that brought up the man "spilling his seed". I believe these comments may be in reference to Genesis 38:8-10 - 8And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother. 9And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother. 10And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.

This man's brother died before he had any children. According to the custom of that day it was the brother's duty to sleep with his dead brother's wife in order to produce an offspring for his dead brother. He sleeps with his brother's wife, but pulls out and let's "his seed spill to the ground." This man was not masturbating but he was deliberately going against what God (through Judah) had told him to do, that's what made it wrong.

As far as not being able to use birth control - I was brought up with a religious background and in all the years I attended Church I never found where the Bible comes right out and says or even hints that using birth control is wrong.

Understand

I know what you mean about religious parents not talking to their children about sex. As I stated I grew up in a religious home and sex was a hush hush issue and something only for when you were married. It never was discussed with me, heck I didn't even know that there was such a thing as being gay until I was almost 20.

There is nothing wrongful or "sinful" about masturbation, let me just leave it at that. We humans are animals, and that is not a bad or disgraceful thing. Knowledge is our gift, as a different kind of animal, embrace it in every form. Knowledge about sex and your own body included. Splitting hairs about sinning and what was written in the bible means nothing to me. Education and knowledge is enlightenment. If you know about sex and yourself, you will be ready to take on everything bad and good that will come your way, and make YOUR OWN choices that fit with YOUR OWN life... because honey, its your life. After you talk to a priest about it, talk to a gyno doctor. Be a skeptic and be a believer at the same time. Just be educated.
