Just because a dictionary defines it, it doesn't mean it is an absolute definitive status. The dictionary definition is "the state of never having had sexual intercourse". According to this, gay/lesbians who have not had PIV sex are virgins. They could have orgies and even give birth but still be virgins. Do you agree with that? Again, a very heteronormative view that dismisses other types of sexuality.
How about a dictionary? Or use your own. It's a real thing regardless of how you feel about it or define it.
Also, I think how you feel about virginity and chastity is influenced by your own beliefs and culture. In my culture, chastity is valued and encouraged in men as much as it is in women. The lack of it is met with the same discipline.Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose - Kris Kristofferson and Fred Foster (sung by Janis Joplin)Comment

I was talking about the definition of sex.
But, no I don't agree with people having orgies being virgins. That's not what the dictionary is saying. I don't see what's so heteronormative about the definition. Sex doesn't just mean piv.

I totally see where Dream is coming from that if the dictionary defines it as "intercourse", then does that mean lesbians are virgins? I think her point isn't to argue the definition but to point out that it is flawed. I pulled this explanation from another site and think it explains Dreams point well:
"What does it mean to be a virgin? A virgin is someone who has never had sex. But "sex" is defined differently by different people. A lot of people think that women and men lose their virginity the first time they have penis-in-vagina intercourse (vaginal sex). But this definition is really limited because it leaves lots of people and other types of sex out of the picture. Some people who haven't had vaginal sex don't think of themselves as virgins because they've had other kinds of sex, like oral or anal sex. And then there are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people who may never have vaginal (penis-in-vagina) sex, but don't think of themselves as virgins. Others believe that it depends on consent (consent means wanting and agreeing to have sex). So being forced to have sex, for example, isn't losing your virginity. So the definition of virginity is complicated. Some people don't even care about it. Figuring out if you count as a virgin or not is much less important than how you feel about your sexual experiences. Are you happy with the sexual experiences you've had or decided not to have? What can you do in the future to make sure the sexual decisions you make will keep you safe and happy? "
So......BECAUSE the definition of the word is so complex and subjective, we cannot just say it is what it is, because..........what it is depends on your opinion of it. Is it piv? Is it oral sex? Is it anal sex? If not the latter two, are gay folks virgins? Our need, as a society to identify it and associate judgment to it (or way or the other), makes it a social construct, in my opinion.
