I got mirena the first od april. My period has stopped in the last 2 months, I'm always tired even with getting atleast 8 hours of sleep i feel like i can't get going the next day. I'm moody which is driving my husband crazy! I have little sex drive again..driving him crazy...of course. Me as well because now he thinks i don't want him which isn't so. Also just in the last few months I just feel achy in places i never did before. I feel old!!lol I'm planning on making an appointment to have it removed. Going to try non hormonal bc for awhile maybe let my body balance back out for a few months.

I am new to this site as a member but have read entries for years. I have had the Mirena for over a year and a half now. I cannot imagine going back to how I was. I do still spot for a few days each month, but that is far better than the avg. 15 day periods I used to have. So far my partner has not been able to feel the strings so this has not been a hinderance at all.
Keep the good comments about Mirena coming! It is too easy to only report the negative sides of this.Comment

A lightbulb hath gone off-eth
I've had the Mirena for 14 months. I was thinking it was the most wonderful thing and I swear I must have had my head up my tushy. I came here researching something else I have been dealing with and I think I've just had a "hallaluyah" moment!
I've been battling this resistent yeast infection for the last two weeks. Several 3-day treatments, 2 trips to dr, and 3 high-dose Diflucan...still as bad as ever. (It's everything in me to not grab a fine tooth comb and scratch myself to "orgasmic" bliss...fellow yeasters...you know what I'm talking about
)
So, I'm not exactly sure how I ended up at this particular post but I think this IUD is the culprit, FER SURE.
I never associated any of these other symptoms to the IUD, but get this:
*NO Sex Drive (thought it was from still nursing baby #4...usually a lower sex drive when nursing but not complete and utter NON-existent sex drive)
*and if I DO have sex it is PAINFUL (thought it was from nursing)
*NO orgasm (thought is was my anti-depressent/ocd med Luvox that I went back on right before I got the IUD at the postpardum 6-week check...but orgasm was never a problem taking the Luvox previously)
But here is the clincher...the *ding *ding *ding of bells going off around me...
*Aches in my joints, and HIPS especially...I was super fit before and during my pregnancy...I couldn't imagine how 2 months post-pardum I could be feeling so old & crotchity! I don't know how this could be related to the IUD and never would have even put 2 & 2 together if another poster hadn't mentioned it. But it is the absolute oddest occurence since the birth of my last baby.
And, shoot, if I wasn't so focused on the hip aching epiphany, I could probably relate other issues to this.
SO, it is Saturday...and I am scheduled for yet another dr. appt on Monday since these Diflucan aren't working...and I AM GETTING THIS THING TAKEN OUT.
Hubby will just have to go get the snip snip
...luckily, he is willing.
Thank you all for coming on here and sharing so explicitly. Finding this out has changed my life.Comment

Problems with IUD?
I got the Mirena IUD in July 2006. I had 1 period in August and then nothing. For the last 6 months, I have had recurring bacterial and yeast infections and pain after intercourse. For the last 2 weeks, I have been bleeding and cramping. Has anyone else had this happen? Please help!Comment

Mirena
I had the Mirena IUD instered in October. I know plenty of women who have it and have done very well with it. I had talked to all of them and got feed back. After doing much research online, I finally made the decision to get it.
I have had nothing but problems with it since the week after i got it. The first week was AWESOME. I felt good, I didn't have aches and pains and I didn't bleed like others have.
After that, it's been a nightmare. I have endometriosis and have had bad periods and cramping since I was 17. I am 35 now, and thought that if I get rid of the periods (as many do with the Mirena) than perhaps the cramping that I am so used to having would subside. Not so.
I cramp ALL the time now. I don't even have to be bleeding. I have had an ultrasound and a cat scan and both reveal that the IUD is inserted correctly. I have cystic acne now as well, and never had a problem with acne at all before this.
My joints in my hips and shoulders ache terribly and I feel tired all the time. I get really sharp pains in my ovaries and feel as though they are about to rupture at any given time. On the cat scan they did find some cysts on the ovaries but they stated that they are small and shouldn't be causing me any pain. I also have frequent yeast infections and BV. I have always been prone to yeast- but have never had BV before.
I am having it removed on Wednesday. I would rather use condoms than deal with this anymore.
I feel as though I made the right decision and the time to have it inserted. I did my homework, and I knew the positives and the negatives that come with an IUD. I just wish that it would have worked out for me as well and it has for so many other people.Comment

OMG! I am having the same thing....
Hello Everyone! I joined for the exact topic. I am having all of the symptons that you are having! I just chose to ignore it and thought it was all in my head. I went to the family doctor and told him I thought I was loosing my mind and that I was healthy as an ox until I had children but it was when the IUD was inserted. The insertion wasn't painful, I had some cramping and it looked to be a great alternative to the bc pill. I hated taking it everyday and the weight I gained was no fun.
Well nether is the side effects I am having now. Oh boy, I have been put on depression medicine that doesn't do a thing, acne that I never had before. No sex drive and when I am in the mood it's so uncomfortable and often painful (feels like he is ripping me) mood swings (loss of memory, feeling like I am loosing it), can't deal with my kids, achy hips, legs (sometimes my legs feel like they are going to fall off), no period at all not spotting or anything, headaches, stomach problems, cramping, back pain. The worst symptom is the yeast infections that keep happening. This is the second one in two months. They are awful, I never use to get anything like this until this was inserted now I get them all the time. Painful, itching that you can't stand (I love the earlier post about itching until orgasmic bliss! AMEN SISTER!) I know that is gross but this is hell, pure hell. Here I have been doctoring for depression and migraine headaches and it's been this dang thing. I am sorry! Ladies please do not get this. God must not have wanted us on birth control for this very reason!
Also, my sil in loves it. I think she is nuts. LOL My family all said don't do it they were leary, they had miscarriages, hystorectomies, and all kinds of problems, but I went against my better judgement and got it anyway. Here is the product of that.
Hands down this has been the worst 1 1/2 of my life. I hope this saves some woman from this pain!
I have no idea what for birth control we will use probably condoms because I can't stand to be on birth control, the bloatedness, weight gain, and the pyscho feeling. Snip snip honey!
Thanks to all of you that previously posted. I called my doctor today and we are going to discuss taking this out.

iud
I have had my iud Since June 2006, The first month or two i had very heavy bleeding I used to get faint and almost passed out a few times. I would call my doctor and he would just say that it was normal and i would be ok. But I think that the longer it is in the better it gets you just have to get through the first 6 months or so, I dont get periods anymore no spotting I do feel the strings sometimes and some cramping when it is the time of the month but It is better then 12 day heavy periods every month. I did get my first yeast infection the other day but it was because i was on antibiotics for a long time trying to get rid of an ear infection. Overall it has been a pretty good experiance being on the iud.Comment

Pain cause of the IUD???
I have had the IUD in now for about 2 years I have never had any problems with it until about a month ago or so. I suffer with lower pelvic pains and nausea such bad nausea, lower back pain all the time acne but ive had that since ive gotten the IUD put in. Has anyone else had these symptoms? I have been to see about three doctors I have gotten blood work, Xrays and a ultrasound done the doctors keep telling me that everything is fine. Fine is the key word if I was fine would I be having all this pain. Could it be in my head? Im finally getting it out on Feb 6 after almost 2 years with it. I hope that once its out the pain will stop. Its scary feeling this way. Thanks.Comment
