Anyone with any of these symptoms need to have their IUD removed. I had the Mirena IUD in for almost four years and for the last year that it was in, I was in hell. I started out having pain and bleeding with intercourse, dryness, no periods-only to find out I had endometriosis- which I feel was caused by the IUD. My doctor treated my endometriosis with the Depro-Vera shot-another mistake-my sex drive went from 0 to -10, and I gained 10 pounds. After not getting another shot, I starting having terrible cramps, almost as though I was going into labor. I made it through that with left over pain killers from my surgery, but after, started having irregular bleeding and thick mucus-like discharge, cramping -averything as though I was having my period but it never stopped, plus not to mention the infections that kept coming back after the antibiotics ran it's course. I tried to get the IUD removed, the doc was unable to find the strings and opted to remove it under ultrasound guidence. Now, with it finally out, all symptoms are completley gone and I have never felt better. My cycle is back to normal and the infections went away without antibiotics. (Now tell me if the IUD wasn't causing all those problems) Having the IUD removed was the best decision of my life, I would never wish an IUD on my worst enemy. Good luck to those who haven't had problems with theirs! -
Thank God for google!
I'm so thankful that I found you guys. Yes I have had nothing but problems with my IUD. I had mine placed back in Feb '07. Not even a month later I was diagnosed with my first case of BV! I was diagnosed again in Oct. '07, Jan '08 and again just this week!!!! Not to mention the countless yeast infections and even UTI's. I am sick of living fear of what will come next. My husband is miserable because of the strings, they actually make little cuts on him! I had them trimmed as short as poss. and still they are uncomfortable. I have read the past posts regarding these issues. I am happy for anyone who has success. I love the theory behind the IUD however it obviously isn't for everyone. We chose this so I didn't have to go back on chemical contraceptives however I think I can handle a few extra pounds to encourage me to stay fit than the embarrassing trips to the pharmacy counter not to mention getting checked all the time for STD's. Thank God my husband loves me and doesn't question my faithfulness to him.Comment

I have to say what a relief it is to see that I am not the only one who thought I was crazy that the IUD thing is not for me. I have had all the symptoms of almost everyone who has posted so far. I have been on several meds for depression/anxiety and they do not work! I have gained more than 20 lbs. since the birth of my daughter in June 2007 and I have gotten so out of control with my emotions, that my husband has jokingly threatend to "send me to my mom's house" because I am miserable to be around. Little things that NEVER used to bother me now set me so over the edge I go crazy! Someone else mentioned that they cannot even stand their own kids-that is totally me! My daughter cries for reasons babies cry and I get soo angry I just start yelling and slamming things around-not at her but it gets me mad-its dumb, but why should it make me mad. I have no sex drive, which as we all know drives husbands crazy and now I am realizing that it all can be pinpointed to the IUD. I am calling my doctor immediatly to find out how soon I can have this thing removed. I am usually not an emotional person-I NEVER CRY!, even as a kid, but lately (and this is what got me resaerching) any little thing will get me to cry-I spent all day Sunday crying literally, that is not me. I have more hormonal mood swings now than I ever did while I was pregnant. I cannot wait to have this thing out and get back to a normal way of life. Thank you to all who have posted before me to help me realize that it was not my imagination and that things are gonna get better!Comment

Sheesh, I can barely handle a pap smear, I can't imagine having a big thing shoved through my cervix!! Yeah and I know Child birth will not be as great either (but your body preps you for it...total difference here)
My "friend" has had an IUD for almost a year now and she's experienced pretty much everything here, but she DOES NOT want to get preggo, so she's putting up with the pain...."I might be a little young, but honey I ain't naive"

Sorry to have to post not so positive news regards IUD - ivenever had one fitted but i have had PID - pelvic inlammatory disease . The insertion of IUD is one of the main causes of PID along with sti infections surgery and other things .Hi all! I'm new to this site and I'm just hoping that I can find some answers and support.
I had a merena IUD put in about 6 months ago. There are several issues I'm having that I feel are connected to the IUD.
I'm having PAINFUL intercourse, cramping, sharp pain etc, very much feels like a BAD period. I feel like I'm having constat pms. On top of that I have been having vaginal dryness, chronic BV that flipflops into a yeast infection and then back to BV. I haven't had any relief in about 3 months despite being on Diflucan once a week, metronidozal gel and pills.
My question is this: Could this be due to the IUD? Hormone imbalances? Has anyone else expereinced painful intercourse after having an IUD inserted?
One of the MAIN symptoms of PID is constant period type pains , plus having BV or very bad thrush ect ...i urge you to look up any info you can on having an IUD fitted and some of its after effects.
The fact you say you are suffering ever since you had it fitted , i think they should of removed it by now and i would get this removed before it causes any more problems , if you ar suddenly feeling sick, faint or have a fever go without hestitation to your nearest A and E department , where you can get it removed , But i think the best thing here is to have it removed anyway, especially as you seem to be having ongoing problems . Im sorry your going through that , im sure it works for some but the IUD can cause infections and PID is a serious one , not to say you have it but you are having some infections . Hope they sort this out for you soon . Dont forget to look up on the net some info on IUD insertion and complications .

I just got back from the doctor after having my IUD removed and man what a relief it is to know that that thing is GONE!!!!! I am so excited to get back to "Normal" and get to feeling better. I am starting back on the pill tonight and we will see what happens, I just worry a little bit since I have bad migraines that the pill will make them worse but we will just have to wait and see.Comment

I'm hoping my gyny will take mine out at my appointment on Wednesday...
There'll be hell to pay if he doesn't!
My question is does it hurt? When I had it put in I had an almighty shooting pain all the way though me. Then it subsided so I got dressed then stood up, went giddy and almost passed out!
it was a horrible feeling! I had to sit with my head between my knees for about five minutes to cain my composure! Needless to say I'm a little nervous! having experienced that and also having had cells removed from my cervix ... darn the IUD, it was one of the biggest mistaked I've ever made! I woudn't recommend it to anyone EVER! Due on tomorrow and cramping like crazy!
Thanks

I am in the same situation. I keep getting BVs and the yeast infection. I have the copper IUD and I have never had a BV till I got this little devil. I have been talked out of it by my doctor not to get it removed but I can't take this anymore. It has been going on 2 years.I have been doing reacerch and it says people with IUDs get BVs, but my doctor said this is rare. Well I am living proff and it sound like you are too. Good luck cause I am getting this thing out!!!
I had the mirena 1 yr in feb and had it removed in april... go the the site curezone.com and read the mirena forum and you will see it is bad for you...Comment
