Bi-polar people used to be called manic depressives. They tend to have very high highs and very low lows.

      According to WebMD
      "Bipolar Symptoms
The primary symptoms of bipolar disorder are dramatic and unpredictable mood swings.

      Mania Symptoms
Mania symptoms may include excessive happiness, excitement, irritability, restlessness, increased energy, less need for sleep, racing thoughts, high sex drive, and a tendency to make grand and unattainable plans.

      Depression Symptoms
Depression symptoms may include sadness, anxiety, irritability, loss of energy, uncontrollable crying, change in appetite causing weight loss or gain, increased need for sleep, difficulty making decisions, and thoughts of death or suicide."

There several different types or classifications of BP and it is often misdiagnosed. BPD (borderline personality disorder) may accompany it or be confused with BP. It can be a cause of postpartum depression, self mutilation, various forms of paranoia - in some ways the descriptions look like an emotional catch all, some forms very mild and others quite severe.

Proper diagnosis does require testing and professional evaluation. It does appear to run in families.

Woke up this morning at 8:30AM. Slept like a rock... wife and son on a Boy Scout campout since last night
My sister is all over the map with both emotions and seems to be almost a split personality- seems very odd to me. My doctors have all said that I'm definately not bi-polar. Have a doctors appt tomorrow about this falling down thing. I don't get dizzy, I just lose my balance and I fall over. Maybe I'm a Weebles Wobble- but I DO fall down. Hahaha-

My dad was severe bi-polar. He was either excessively happy or crying uncontrollably, alcoholic, drug addict and heavy smoker. Could never do anything like a normal person, either all out or nothing at all. I always found him to be very strange to be around. Walking on eggshells around him, he might want to fight or beat you when drunk. I didn't have a childhood at all. When he was stoned, he was as nice as he could be and fun to be around. I just never knew what he was going to be like. I thought to myself Dr. Jekell and Mr. Hyde all the time. I've always worked from around 8 yrs old, until 3-4 years ago.
Anyway, my wife and son will be coming home tomorrow at around 8:30. Can't wait to hear about his canoe trip on the lake. His tent mate doesn't like him at all. My son is very outgoing and not many people like him because he thinks outside the box and wants to experience new things. They want to sit around and cook hotdogs while he is interested in making a real meal, like spaghetti or a steak. We'll see how it went-

Last week, they said they were fine. You think it might be an inner ear thing?

Balance issues started about 3 months ago. I just looked down my throat with a flashlight and tongue depresser. White bumps on the back of my throat, looks like strep- Great What else now? I noticed this morning something in my throat that wouldn't come up or go down, been there all day and just got curious. Well... Now I know, time for a strep test. Just what else... I better not ask (looking up with hands covering head!)
