essure done oct 09

I had the essure done oct of 09. I went to the local hospital where i was put to sleep and 35 min later i was awake and ready to leave.I was given morphin for pain while i was sleeping which didnt help at all. I asked for pain meds just incase i had more pain..Well i did i had so much pain i ended up missing a week of work.I also had the brown period other ppl have talked about. I have pain in lower abdomen every month when i have my period. my period is so much more painful then before . I feel like someone is stabbing me in the stomach.Its much worse then after birth cramping.I am going to go to the doctor (a new doctor since I have moved since getting my procedure done) and see what the problem is. These other post have helped me to see I made a mistake and jumped on what I was told, way to fast without looking into the implant first.And not knowing what happens after 5 yrs scares me alot.thank you all for your experience in this.

Goingloco, Glad to hear you and the baby are doing great. I am just very happy that it has all turned out well for you. It is so good to hear something positive has come from all this mess. I bet she is beautiful. You take care and thank you for sharing with us your experience.

athena813, I'm sorry that you are having problems. There is a law firm looking into the problems that women are having with this procedure. The procedure in my opinion is just not what they claim it to be. I also recommend that you make a report to the FDA. I've posted many times on how to do this but if you need help just let me know. Keep us posted.

Thank you so much to all who have posted here. I am a healthcare professional (animal health vs. human health), and understand that there are risks associated with any procedure. However, having said that, I can say that I am no longer considering having this particular procedure after reading about the experiences of the women who have shared their stories. May you find some comfort in knowing you have prevented at least one other woman from putting herself at risk through this forum - for an elective procedure, this seems to have quite a bit of baggage. I'll keep looking at other options.

What a roller coaster ride of emotions.....



Ok, I had the essure procedure done in May 2009, (I thought the procedure itself was a little uncomfortable, but fascinating at the same time. No bleeding and only mild cramping a few days after) Followed the guidlines and rules, used Birth Control. In August of 2009 I had my HSG test done (a little more uncomrtable and irritating then the procedure itself) and it was confirmed that my tubes were completly blocked. YEah.....

The months to follow were normal. No major cramping and my libido improved dramatically...it was great!

Well in Feb 2010, I was a couple days late on my period and decided to take a home pregancy test....POSITIVE!!!! I was totally freaking out...First...."oh my gosh...I dont want another one" then it was "Oh my gosh what is going to happen to it with those coils"? After a couple hours I decided I better call the Dr. on call becuase I was worried about an tubal pregnancy and didnt want that to happen or burst! The Dr. told me that I should see my Dr. first think on Monday morning and only go to ER if I have severe falling down pain or bleeding... Well...I wasnt having any of those symptoms....

So when I went to the Dr. They did some blood tests and another ultrasound. My HCG levels kept rising as they should with a normal pregancy but the ultrasound only showed a sac and not an embryo.... Well after weeks of blood tests (with rising HCG levels) and ultrasounds.... It is confirmed that I am preggers! I am 8 weeks along today. Feeling all the normal first trimester pregnancy side effects..... NOw that the shock is over.... we have accepted it and are now thrilled to have another one....

My concern now is that of the baby, pregnancy and delivery. My doc says it will be treated as a normal pregnancy and there is no need for worry. Well... easier said then done...Im panicked and very worried. Does anyone know the risks involved? I havent been able to find much information.

To all ladies who have had problems and have found doctors that can remove the metal coils without doing a hysterectomy please post what state they are located in. Also I have communicated with someone with Chapel Hill tubal reversal and they want women to know that you do not have to have a hysterectomy. They say they can do the surgery for removal on an outpatient basis. They also list info on the general cost of having them removed. I think they have a good bit of experience in removing the coils so it might be worth checking out. I know that doesn't help those who live too far away or those who cannot afford to have them removed but at least there is a group of doctors with experience in removing the metal coils. I will post again that I had mine removed in Mississippi without a hysterectomy. It is so hard to find a doctor that knows what to do when there is problem and maybe by sharing where those of us who have found help, other women can benefit.

Ok well today went in for my yearly exam. Over the years I have asked about getting TL but have always been dismissed because I am 27 with no children. I have no desire to have kids. And I have been on the depo for 10 years. I have rejected teh idea of IUD's because 2 friends of mind had problems with thiers (getting misplaced and getting prego) Well today my new OBGYN told me of this "great new BC" Essure. He explained where my insureance won't cover a ellective tubal they might cover the Essure. I asked if there was risk of it comming unloged and ending up places it wasn't suppoed to liek the IUD. He said no. LOL Well I always do reserch on meds I am a skeptic. I am sooooo glad I did. I am going to fight for a TL. I was very concerned with the Essure at first because it is new and you always see on tv the class action suits against the new meds. And this is no exception I fully believe you ladies will be getting a settlement and should. This is all BS and very misrepresented. On the Essure web site they make it all look just fine and dandy. Soooo much better than TL. And more effective. LOL Yeah from what you ladies hve posted it's not that great at all. Why get the essure to have to wind up getting the tubal later anyways? I will either get a TL or stay on my bone loss depo shot. It really ticks me off that insurance companies and Doc's make it so hard for women to really choose our methods of BC. It's my body and I want to say what happens not be forced into what they think is best. Anyways thank you for your stories ladies you have definatly stopped another woman from going through this. And I will tell anyone I know that thinks about it to not do it!!!!!! Good luck and I hope you all get back to some form of normalcy.

In response to Kym4's post, I had my coils removed without a hysterectomy in Marietta, Ga. My doctor was wonderful. If you are in the area, please contact me, and I will put you in touch with my doctor. He was very caring and acted very quickly when I began reporting problems without dismissing my complaints. I had my coils put in July 1, 2009 and removed August 31, 2009. I appreciate all of the posts from the ladies who have said that the stories have stopped them from having this procedure. It literally brings tears to my eyes. I only wish I had done more research before I got the coils!

New to the boards - just thought I'd contribute....

I had the Essure procedure done in July 2010. The 3-month post-op test showed that the right side device had slipped out of place. The doctor (gyn) said I was only the 2nd patient of his to have this happen. He does a lot of Essures since more women are turning to this instead of a TL. After discussing the options with my gyn, we decided it best to do a TL on both sides since trying to reposition the Essure device may just result in it slipping again. During the TL he also removed the Essure devices. This surgery went seemingly well until two days later when I was taken to the ER with severe abdominal pain. In a nutshell, I ended up having emergency surgery for a perforation in my small intestine. My gyn was stunned. He said he does a number of TLs and has never had anything like this happen before.

Even before he talked to me after the surgery I had already begun to think that the Essure device was the cause. He said he felt like either the Esssure device had put a hole in the intestine or it became hot during the TL and burned a hole in my small intestine. I agree since even before I had the post-op test that showed it had slipped out of place I had a "poking" feeling on that side most all of the time.

I'm sure most Essure patients have the procedure done without any problems at all. Hind sight is always 20-20. If I had it to do over, I would have just had a TL or continued on my pills. I just thought the Essure would be less invasive and safer. And I'm sure it is for most people. I guess I just had some really bad luck. For what it's worth...
