I used to get UTI's at least once a month, if not sooner. I had the same problem of going to the dr and having them just give me antibiotics. I tried drinking lots of water, cranberry juice and supplements, wiping from front to back, etc. and nothing seemed to work. I had the UTI's spread to my kidneys multiple times, and even kidney stones. Finally, I went to go see a urologist- let me say what a relief to have a dr that understands what I'm going through and doesn't just tell me the same thing over and over! Turns out my bladder is having constant spasms, and because of this not all of the urine is getting out of it which is causing an infection. I would HIGHLY recommend going to see a urologist, they can figure out exactly what's going on and help you. I even learned that certain foods can trigger a UTI!

By the way, it's great to know that I'm not the only person suffering from frequent UTI's. I really felt like I was the only one out there!

I do everything I'm suppose to do: go to the bathroom before and after sex, don't hold it in too long, wipe from front to back, etc. and I've even taken cranberry supplements and B-Mannose and I keep getting them. Of course the doctor doesn't really question anything even after I tell them how many I get, and just gives me antibiotics, but I'm getting worried that the antibiotics are gonna stop working soon because I've been getting prescribed to so many of them in such a short amount of time. Oh yeah... and then on top of them I get yeast infections cause the antibiotics kill all the natural in my vagina.

Do any of you know anything that I can do???? or do any of you know if a doctor can prescribe me something other than antibiotics for it? It's getting pretty ridiculous!!!! Thanks )
I used to get UTI's all the time. It was ridiculous! I changed my diet since then, and they've gone away. I didn't do it on purpose, it just happened. And I didn't know diet could affect UTI frequency, but it's the only thing I've done differently. And since my diet change, I haven't been getting yeast infections either.

Basically I'm doing what you're doing. Going to the bathroom as soon as I feel it, wiping the right way, using the bathroom right after sex, etc. The only thing i've done besides that is increase the amount of fiber I eat, and other healthy foods. I eat an apple a day, FiberOne bars, nutrigrain bars, high in fiber cereals, muffins, salad, fish, bananas, juice, oatmeal. I eat meat and everything too so it's balanced, but those are the foods I try to eat more of.

I'm no expert on diets at all, but maybe it could help you too. If anything healthy food couldn't hurt the problem!

Possible cure of frequent UTI

I think I may have found a solution- I've been taking Vitamin C pills for about the past month or so and guess what??!?! No uti!!! No burning, no pain, no nothing!!! I gues it makes the urine more acidic so no bacteria forms, but whatever the reason IT'S WORKING!!!!!!!!!!!! I used to have them every month. I had given up ALL liquids except water, I was losing weight because I was full off water; I started taking the cranberry pills but they stopped working. I was so ****ed off at my doctor because they antibiotics they gave me didn't work and I needed a refill-he never called back. I have been on Bactrin, macrobid, that numfromatin- you name it, I've been on it. Also, the reason I get them is I have a lot of scar tissue around my lower organs from when I had my 2 c-sections. Needless to say, it's a joy to not spend almost ten minutes in the bathroom trying to get all the pee out or even holding your breath in anticipation of the pain. Good luck!!! Oh, the brand I use is NatureMade and it's 500 mg..

UTI

Cranberry vege capsules 30,000+
They've got to be this strength or they won't work, take a couple a day while you have the infection and one everyday while you feel good, not run down etc
Don't eat vitamin c tablets or too many oranges and stuff while your taking them, it's like an overload, makes me feel sick anyway.
This trick has saved me a fair few penny's at the doctors,
it won't save you from an appointment if there's blood in your urine.
Hope this helps.

i know exactly what your talking about - others say they get re-occurant uti's - how bout this...i get them basically EVERYTIME i have sex or even sometimes after masturbation i feel the familiar feelings of a uti settling in.

ive heard it all and follow the rules...peeing, wiping, pill popping, juice drinking, water guzzling, washing, clean undies, std checks....the works! i still get them

it has come to the point where the doc prescribed a drug specific for uti's and i have to pop one EVERYTIME i have sex. its so wrong!

who the wants to jump outta bed after some nookie and go to the toilet, try to pee or squeeze at least a few drops out everytime? what about having to have a shower to wash away the nasties when ur tired and its cold?

i know i dont - gone are the days of having sex then blissfully falling asleep in my partners arms.

ive had a scan that looked to see if i am expelling urine completely and i was all ok. doctors continue to tell me to take pills and repeat the same advice ive heard a million times.

i am currently single and dont have a regular partner but when i did...it created huge issues and as u can imagine, the devilish uti demon is always lurking around ready to pounce when i have sex - so much so its a constant concern and most men just dont get it! in fact, most male doctors dont either!

personally i dont think anyone can offer any more advice that i havent heard already but its good to vent and see if anyone else out there struggles with the same issues.

thanx

SAME HERE! it sucks... i hateee that the doctors can only tell me the same things over and over again! mine have been going on for over 3 years now. i was prescribed some antibiotics i am supposed to take EVERYDAY to prevent them, but i'm really bad about thinking i'll do fine without em... till i get my next UTI. i am still paying on hospital bills for kidney sonograms and all sorts of stuff to try to find the root of the problem with no luck. i haven't had one ina few months now (knock on wood), so maybe the new "feminine wipes" i got are helping some- i use them to wipe down there after peeing after sex. but yeah, i don't have a solution for anyone, just a "i feel ya!"

Since I had a terrible UTi last summer ,I am not the same when it comes to sex with my husband. I think becasue maybe I am scared it may trigger an infeciton I don't respond the same way any more. I read here that vitamin c is also good for prevention, would it be OK to eat more oranges?

I am suffering from a UTi for the last few days, burning in the kidney area, the anti biotics are awful they make my palms really hot and i feel cold generally. Had my last dose tonight, I don't think it has cleared up though I may need to go back to the surgery tomorrow. I didn't realsie that UTIs were so common and that so many women suffered this way. I hope I can find a solution to my problem as some have here. Will be trying the cranberry pill. How long before I notice a difference after taking them?

Summer, yes citrus fruits will help, it makes a more acidic environment as others have said. It makes it more difficult for the bacteria to form.

I understand how you feel about sex. I had to have a frank discussion with my Hubby. Tell him how I was suffering and how it was affecting my sex drive. I asked him to make sure to scrub his hands and be clean before we got romantic ( he has enjoyed the bonus that I am more inclined to give him oral if he is fresh from the shower) and to know that I need to go wash right after sex. It has helped alot!!! If I feel a UTI coming on I pop a couple cranberry pills and have more water less caffeine and no chocolate for a few days.

I bought some citrus fruti today as well as Vitamin c and cranberry pills and have already started taking them. If I can control the UTIs this way I will be over the moon as anti biotics just don't agree with me.

Why do you cut down on chocolate? Is that a contrIBUTOR TO UTIs? I would do anything to stop these infections, but chocolate.....that's a toughy.>>LOL

Yes Chocolate can contrubute. It has caffeine which irritates the infection and lots of Sugar is not good. It helps create an environment that Bacteria loves.
