Hi again, I finished my 3 day course of anti biotics yesterday and all day today I was feeling fine infectionwise. However this evening i am feeling twingy again in the kidney area, should I wait and see for a day or two or go back to my doctor? Maybe the infection hasn't all cleared up and I may need more anti biotics. I have stared the vitammins maybe they will start to kick in tomorrow after the second day. -
Thanks for this great tip, someone else suggested i take Pro biotics as well to keep the healthy bacteria. Here is a tip from me, someone else told me that coconut water/milk is also very good for UTIs it supposed to be better than cranberry juice but not many people know about this.
Guess what? I bought some of that too!!Comment

I'm almost relieved to find this forum....it's not just me that gets this then?! Currently sat here - in pain with ANOTHER stupid UTI....it's the 2nd one I've had in the past month. I'm taking the antibiotics after sex too, but now think I'm going to have to start taking them after..ahem....solo fun too (TMI I know, I'm sorry)
Mind you - after reading some of the comments on this board, I fear I'm not helping myself too much. I have a massive redbull addiction (caffeine + sugar) and I'm always too busy at work to remember to pee. Guess I'll be swapping the trusty redbull for water and cranberry juice from now on, and peeing backwards!
Hope we find someway of stopping these awful infections soon!Comment

Hi Jen, no worries on the TMI, yes be careful with solo fun as well. I have also found that a hand held shower head helps me to get cleaner "down there" And I can do quick rinse easily anytime. It is better than using a washcloth and re distributing the infection. Once you make some changes and get used to them it is worth it and you will not notice so much except no more pain!!! And that is worth it in my book!Comment

Hello!
I just found this forum as well while I was googling to see if there were any symptoms related to mine on google. I get chronic UTI's and they used to be a monthly issue or everytime I'd have intercourse. I had a UTI about a month ago and I've been seeing my natural path for about two years trying to get rid of this problem. I take cranberry syrup, cranberry pills and I drink pure cranberry juice when I have a UTI. I sound like a cranberry nut...but it just doesn't seem to work anymore. I folllow everything my doctor tells me to do each day for example, I take 1 tsp of syrup twice a day or I take 2 cranberry pills twice a day. I've been seeing a family physician to get another opinion and we ran through the ideas of STD's and seeing a gynaecologist for a paps. She didn't think it was necessary since I've been dealing with UTI's for so long and my symptoms didn't sound like an STD. I'm sick of using antibiotics because the only kind I can take is bactrum and I feel like they aren't going to work for much longer. The pain pills that I get are starting not to work as well and that's scary because it makes me cry when I try to go to the bathroom if I don't take something to ease the pain.
Sorry I'm writing a book, I just have felt really alone in this situation because I'm giving up on my natural path and I'm giving up on my family doctor too. I had to go to my family physician today to talk about a virus I've been fighting and I tried to discuss my latest issue with my urinary tract. I get a slight burning and irritation throughout the day but when I use the bathroom it doesn't hurt when I go. I stay really hidrated throughout the day and for the past month all I drink is water. I used to drink tons of coffee and I know that's one of the worst things to drink when you get UTI's, so I cut it out. It's just upsetting having to go through the day feeling like I'm going to get a UTI.
I did recently move in with my mom and she uses a different kind of detergent that I've never heard of. Probably a cheaper brand, which is great, but I wonder if it could be causing my irritation. When I discussed my problem with the doctor today, she didn't ask me about what kind of detergent I use or how my diet is. I think I'm going to try the coconut milk, thank you Summer73! The old detergent I used was a scent free organic brand and I never had any problems with that one. Also because of this irritation I can't use tampons anymore which my family doctor said isn't good but she didn't have any ideas why I can't use them.
If anyone has a similar problem or any suggestions please feel free to reply!Comment

I've been suffering from about one UTI a month for almost 5 years now. I live in a small town and my doctor took it on as his personal project to "cure" me and prevent these from happening. He's got some clever ideas that actually kept the UTI's at bay for almost a half a year! They are:
If you're sexually active:
1. Be careful which positions you're using. UTI's are frequently caused by bacteria from the anus. Positions such as "doggie style" or "reverse cowgirl" put your anus towards the male giving more potential of the spread of anal bacteria in during the thrust.
2. Avoid foam spermicides or condoms with spermicides on them. I don't know why this is, but apparently it's linked to UTI's (go to mayoclinic)
3. Track when your UTI's are. Mine turned out to be exactly one week before my period. Try going without sex during that week if it's a specific pattern.
It's very unfortunate that we have to deal with these pesky annoyances!!!Comment
