Maybe if there were some legit studies backing removing part of the clitoral hood as conveying some health benefits it would be a valid point. The problem with that is, at least according to wikipedia, it "almost invariably accompanied by removal of the clitoris itself."

On the movie thread you said you hadn't seen episode 3. Phantom menace was a bit slow.

Yeah I did, my bad. I just checked, I didn't recognize the name 'revenge of the sith', I read that and thought it was a sci fi film I'd never heard of, sorry.

I watched all of them (the new star wars and the new digitally remastered original 3) in the cinema, more than anything they remind me of when I was a kid! My favorite is return of the jedi with the ewocks. I can remember crying when I was a little kid because Luke Skywalker killed that creature he was traveling through the snow on so he could sleep in it! I said it wasn't fair because it had carried him and that was how he repaid it!

I can also remember wondering what the strange feeling I got was when I saw Pricess Liea dressed up as Jabba's prisoner good times...

I don't think there is much difference whether a man is circumcised or not. The main purpose of circumcision is for hygiene anyway.

That depends on who you ask. If you ask a mother who has it done to her son for religious reasons then that is the main purpose in her culture, if you ask a non religious individual they may say it is for appearance sake, some will say hygiene, some will say that is just what people do. The reasons are subjective.

Are there any women here who would allow a trained doctor with a sterile knife to slice of any part of their vagina or clitoris? I would not allow any doctor anywhere at any time for any reason whatsoever to cut any part of my child's genitalia male or female.
I would respectfully submit this is a subject that women don't have a clear appreciation of, I can't talk about pregnancy, lactation, or menstruation cycles as I don't know what it feels like to undergo those experiences. Women here in the United States don't have to deal with THEIR OWN kind of genital cutting of any kind. Which is a very good think. Think to yourself, would I have liked my parents to have cut a part of my genitalia off as a child for hygiene/spiritual/religious reasons? Me personally, the answer is no. I think its a barbaric practice and I wish we didn't do it to our children anymore. Babies are born PERFECT!

Here's some food for thought: WTF invented circumcision? Someone. somewhere, at some point and stage in history decided to experiment - no doubt on someone else's penis - and think, 'actually, we may as well just cut that bit off'. There aint nowt as strange as folk...

RE religious beliefs. These people believe in a god who created the world a few thousand years ago, that dinosaurs donr exist, and that science is rubbish.

Cutting a bit of penis off is nothing strange in comparison!

Hey TVlover, there are lots of people on WH who belong to the religions you are talking about there. We are not here to be mean to them, devalue their beliefs, or laugh at them. Those kinds of comments and the attitude they convey are completely inappropriate, and if you continue to make those kind of comments, you'll be banned. Think about the kindness you were showed when you described a VERY suspect situation, and try to give that kindness back even when you don't agree with people. Take a look at the FAQ and start operating on the Golden Rule - treat others as you'd like to be treated.

BB, the word on the street is that circumcision was developed in a legitimate bid for cleanliness in the ancient world where washing wasn't so easy to come by. It came into vogue in (secular) America in order to discourage masturbation. As a woman who's been with guys both intact and cut, I've gotta say I see the logic there ... rather than pumping some loose skin, you've got to slide your hand against it with some kind of lube. One of these things is significantly easier than the other!
