    Welcome, MiracleRiver

You picked on one of the references I cited, but what about other studies and authorities who say the same things, some of which are listed on this thread?

I googled the study and selected the first site that was not connected to the researcher. It was the UK national health service - their publically funded health system. They discussed the study and some of the potential issues with it, like for example that some of the studies it referenced may have been skewed because sexually fulfilled men may have been more willing to participate. But they concluded that overall, it was a useful study. Is the british government in on the creepy obsession with foreskins too?

We're trying to figure out why people get so emotional about this. What affects your feelings about circumcision? Did you or someone you love have a bad experience? What would you say about men like me that are circumcused and have a fulfilling, intensely pleasurable sex life?

The study got a lot of press, but is largely ignored except by opponents of circumcision. Denmark's rate of circumcision is approximately 5%, hardly a significant data set. The cultural bias against circumcision could very well account for the totality of the differences. The lead author concluded that a study in a country where circumcision is prevalent is warranted.

There is nothing "physical" that could account for the differences. In a 2007 study done in Montreal to measure any sensation differences between circumcised and uncircumcised men using thermal imaging, the authors found no differences for men 18-45. There are a plethora of studies that have found no sensitivity differences as well. This is not a debate that science will resolve.

Why is elective (cosmetic) surgery permitted on newborn boys, yet illegal for newborn girls? I ask this in the context of the USA and other so called 1st world countries, not FGM with a rock or rusty razor blade by a Shaman in Africa.

There is a federal law that makes the practice of FGC on anyone younger than 18 years of age illegal within this country. It is a felony punishable by fines or up to a 5-year prison term.

From the original post, I surmise that male circumcision is beneficial during times of war and the Bible also tells us to circumcise our young. Makes total sense given the fact that more wars are fought over religion. (Sarcasm)

Should we circumcise our boys because the Bible instructs us to do so?

        Genesis 17:12 ESV
He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised. Every male throughout your generations, whether born in your house or bought with your money from any foreigner who is not of your offspring
The Bible has strong words against homosexuality, yet modern society is not only embracing it, but taking a very concerted effort to legalize gay marriage, thus condoning homosexuality. Yet male circumcision is no big deal, at least here in the US.

        Leviticus 20:13 ESV
If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.
For the record, I believe in "live and let live, to each their own".

          Welcome back, JonDoe!

I don't think that anyone here is advocating for mandatory circumcision. On the contrary, the circumcised men here and those that have or might consider circumcision for their babies are not trying to impose anything on anyone or belittle people who don't circumcise. It's the other way around!

Even thought there are reliable studies that show significant benefits for circumcision, minimal risk, and an enjoyable sex life, certain people are not content to make the decision not to circumcise for themselves and their own. They become fanatical about attacking people who circumcise their own babies. Why do you think that is?

What are we talking here if a couple have a baby boy it's there right as parents to circumcised there son or not to. The bible should not come into play here on what is right or wrong by others this needs to be left up to two people the parents end of the story. This doesn't matter what the bible says or what someone religion is we need to stop using this for what happens to a young man foreskin at birth or when he's consider a man and has it done geezer. Move on I mean my foreskin is gone my sex life is wonderful my wife loves it so what does it matter. Now i like blue cars am i wrong to like blue cars no but some people don't. It's called a opinion not everyone going like blue cars.

Unfortunately, we live in a world of fanatics, but that doesn't make those of us with strong, educated opinions a fanatic.

I am not here to judge the thoughts, opinions or decisions of others.

However, I am not a fan of double standards. Removing any portion of a newborn female's labia is a felony, yet removing the foreskin of a newborn male is not only legal but also very common in the USA. I find this double standard unacceptable. Regardless of any proposed claims to health or hygiene, how can anyone claim these are not equivalent forms of surgery?

And I don't believe there are any reputable peer reviewed studies that claim significant benefits to male circumcision. Notice the emphasis on significant. Putting religious and cultural issues aside for the moment, the minor potential benefits of circumcision are not significant enough to warrant routine surgery.

The use of circumcision for medical or health reasons is an issue that continues to be debated. Currently, the American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend routine circumcision for newborn males stating the evidence was not significant enough to prove the operation's benefit. The procedure may be recommended in older boys and men to treat phimosis (the inability to retract the foreskin) or to treat an infection of the penis.

Why are we as talking about routine circumcision? Did someone here say that all male babies must be circumcised?

I hate to make an obvious statement, but it seens that it needs to be said: male and female genitalia are different. Analogous does not equal the same. Maybe if the science was as solid on the benefits of cutting the clitoral hood as it is on male circumcision, a valid comparison could be made.

Why did you choose to focus on the word 'routine' and yet not comment on the double standard of the law? I'll gladly continue to debate the topic, but I'm done if you choose to cherry pick specific words.

Circumcision is a routine surgery in the USA. I made no such claims or accusations of anyone stating "that all male babies must be circumcised."

Well Stillness, I read a few post have said that religion and the bible and beliefs that the male foreskin should be remove or not not be. I was only saying it's not a religion thing or belief of what some one feel should be done what the parents of that child wants done or if you decide at a older age to have your foreskin cut off then it's your right to do so no one else has a say if you do that's my point.
