I had an opportunity to test Good Clean Love Almost Naked along with several other members of our team as part of our review process to uncover the best water-based and flavored edible lubes.

We spent 21 hours just testing this particular lube.

What we discovered was a lightweight texture that somehow manages to be thick and gel-like at the same time, while also being free from additives or disruptive ingredients — particularly glycerin and parabens — and is perfectly pH-balanced for the vagina.

Oh, and the smell! Heavenly — but with no flavor!

Is it magic, or just a brilliantly crafted formula?

It’s the latter, I’m (fairly) sure, but either way, we’re going to share everything we learned about this unanimously loved lube.

Almost Naked

Our In-Depth Breakdown Of Good Clean Love Almost Naked

As our top consensus pick for a water-based lube, Almost Naked is a vagina-friendly (and edible!) personal lubricant that features a surprisingly thick formula with a texture that’s long-lasting — especially for a lube of this type.

What Is It

What Is Good Clean Love Almost Naked?

Photograph Of Hand Holding Good Clean Love Almost Naked Lube With Decorative Shelf In Background

Almost Naked by Good Clean Love works by providing added lubrication to the genitals to reduce friction, making penetrative sex, oral sex, and masturbation not only more comfortable, but more pleasurable, too.

Almost Naked is a pH-balanced, water-based personal lubricant designed for vaginal use and made from body-safe ingredients that won’t cause irritation of delicate genital skin.

This is a deliciously luxurious lubricant with a silky-smooth texture that lasts an exceptionally long time for a water-based product, as our team discovered during its rigorous testing.

Additionally, Almost Naked is safely edible and although it has added natural flavoring, our team found that it translates far more to the product’s scent, rather than its taste.

How To Use It

How To Use Good Clean Love Almost Naked

Photograph Of Alison Applying Line Of Almost Naked Lube To The Back Of Her Hand

Almost Naked is easy to apply — simply open the cap and squeeze out the desired amount.

What I love about this product is that overapplication is nearly impossible.

The cap itself features a very small hole (especially when compared to other lubes) so it distributes the gel-like formula slowly and evenly.

Photograph Of Almost Naked Lube Bottle In Hand Showing Small Size Of Cap Hole Against Beige Background

It doesn’t plop out of the bottle haphazardly, won’t drip all over the place, and you can apply it exactly where you need it.

Depending on what you’re using it for, you might only need a drop or two of Almost Naked — but if you need more (or need to reapply), it’s easy to do.

In my experience, I didn’t need to reapply it during vaginal sex, but your mileage may vary depending on how much you applied and how long it needs to last.

Features

Almost Naked Features

Photograph Of Hand Holding Good Clean Love Almost Naked Lube Against Dark Wood Background

Almost Naked from Good Clean Love is a brilliantly-crafted lube that offers incredible lubrication during sex with the added benefit of being completely (and safely) edible.

Before considering any water-based lube for potential testing and review, we deeply analyze each product, weighing its:

  • Body-safe ingredients
  • Overall formula
  • pH and osmolality
  • Versatility (including whether it’s safe for oral, vaginal, and/or anal sex)
  • Ease of use
  • Ease of cleanup
  • Bottle design and function
  • Performance during sex

Any water-based lubricant that’s worth reaching for should be made from safe ingredients, be pH-balanced for the body part(s) it will come into contact, with, and have a safe osmolality.

Additionally, it should offer some degree of versatility (ideally at least being appropriate for oral and vaginal use), and offer comfortable lubrication that won’t irritate your skin.

Almost Naked’s features include:

  • An organic aloe base that’s long-lasting
  • Vagina-friendly pH and osmolality
  • A glycerin and paraben-free formula
  • A delicious vanilla scent
  • Being 100% edible
  • A smart bottle design for easy application

Organic Aloe Base

Organic Aloe Base

Almost Naked features a long-lasting 95% organic aloe vera base that feels like your own natural vaginal moisture while being gentle on the skin.

As we’ll talk about later, the aloe is decolorized — which means it goes through a type of filtration that removes all traces of latex, which occurs naturally in aloe leaves.

Vagina-Friendly pH & Osmolality

Vagina-Friendly pH And Osmolality

Good Clean Love Almost Naked has a vagina-friendly pH balance (4.1 to 4.5) and osmolality (250-400 mOsm/kg) that won’t lead to imbalances that could cause irritation or infection.

Glycerin & Paraben-Free

Glycerin And Paraben-Free Formula

Almost Naked features a body-loving glycerin and paraben-free formula made from just seven ingredients you can trust (and pronounce).

This means it won’t increase your risk for yeast infections, nor will it lead to genital irritation or inflammation.

Delicious Vanilla Scent

Delicious Vanilla Scent

Although there is no added fragrance — the scent comes from natural flavoring — Almost Naked has a delectable vanilla scent that reminds me of freshly-baked cookies.

Our testing team found this to be wonderful, although those with an aversion to scents may not enjoy this aspect of it.

100% Edible

100% Safely Edible

Good Clean Love Almost Naked’s formula is edible during oral sex and although it smells like vanilla, it really doesn’t have a discernable flavor.

Additionally, it’s safe for use with condoms and sex toys (including those made from silicone)

Smart Bottle Design

Smart Bottle Design

Almost Naked features an incredibly smart bottle design that allows for targeted application, preventing unnecessary product waste.

This is in part due to the gel-like formula itself, but the hole in the cap is small so it’s easy to apply the exact amount of lube you need — every time you reach for it.

Pros/Cons

The Pros And Cons Of Good Clean Love Almost Naked

Photograph Of Hand Holding Almost Naked Lube Against Beige Wall

No lubricant is perfect in every single way (at least, I’ve yet to find one that is), and Almost Naked is no different.

It has its share of pros and cons, although it’s worth noting that the benefits far outweigh the disadvantages.

Pros:

  • 95% organic aloe vera base
  • Long-lasting formula (especially for a water-based lube)
  • pH balance (4.1 to 4.5) and osmolality (250-400 mOsm/kg) that will keep your vagina happy and comfortable
  • Glycerin– and paraben-free
  • Gentle and kind to delicate genital skin
  • Delicious vanilla scent (may not be a pro for those who don’t enjoy scents)
  • Completely and safely edible
  • Compatible with all condoms and sex toys (including those made from silicone)
  • Smart bottle design prevents unnecessary product waste
  • Easy to clean up; doesn’t stain fabrics

Cons:

  • Is not quite as long-lasting as silicone-based lubes
  • Like all water-based lubricants, is water-soluble and cannot be used in the bath or shower, as it easily rinses away
  • No discernable (or sweet) flavor, if that’s what you’re looking for in a lube
  • The pH balance (4.1 to 4.5) is too low for anal sex (water-based anal lubes should be in the 5.5 to 7 range)

Depending on what you are personally looking for in a lubricant, Almost Naked may or may not meet every single one of your needs.

That said, I think the same could be said of most lubricants, regardless of how amazing they are — a silicone lube might last forever, but you can’t use it with silicone sex toys, for instance.

Still, Almost Naked checks off a lot of boxes — particularly if you’re looking for a pH-balanced water-based lubricant you can feel good about using orally, vaginally, or even with your favorite sex toys.

If you’re in need of a quality anal lube, however, or one that you can use in the bath or shower (like a silicone), Almost Naked won’t fulfill those needs.

Luckily, there are other products that will.

Safety

Is Almost Naked Safe?

Photograph Of Almost Naked Lube On Dark Wood Tabletop With Plants In Background

When used as directed for vaginal or oral sex, yes — Good Clean Love Almost Naked is completely safe.

Almost Naked is made from just seven ingredients:

  • Organic Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice
  • Xanthan Gum
  • Agar
  • Lactic Acid
  • Potassium Sorbate
  • Sodium Benzoate
  • Natural Flavor

The aloe used in this formula is “decolorized” — meaning it goes through a filtering treatment with activated charcoal that removes the aloe’s natural latex along with the potentially toxic anthraquinones found in it.

Decolorized aloe is the safest type to use and requires minimal preservatives — which is why parabens are not required to keep it fresh.

Additionally, as a water-based lube made from vagina-friendly ingredients, Almost Naked is safe to use during pregnancy.

My Hands-On Experience

My Hands-On Review Of Good Clean Love Almost Naked

Photograph Of Alison Holding Good Clean Love Almost Naked Lubricant In Her Hand While Smiling

The first thing I noticed about this lube is that the formula and bottle design allow for uniquely targeted application — no matter how you plan to use it.

As any lube connoisseur well knows, lubricant is slippery and many products drip and run all over the place, leaving behind a joyful mess in their wake.

Not this one.

Photograph Of Almost Naked Lube Drops Across Index Finger With Plant And Lube Bottle In Blurred Background

Whether you need a single drop or an entire line of lubricant down the full length of a phallic sex toy, it’s easy to apply the exact amount you need — every time.

This means you’re never over-applying or wasting product, which is common with lubricants that feature thin, liquid-like textures.

Side View Photograph Of Almost Naked Lube Drops Along Index Finger With Lube Bottle In Background

“Formulated to work with your body,” Almost Naked performs as advertised — being gentle on the skin while leaving you feeling moisturized and comfortable down there after every use.

Earlier, I mentioned how amazing this product smells — and that’s another thing you’ll notice immediately the very first time you use it.

As long as you personally love the scent of vanilla, you’ll likely enjoy that aspect of it — but those who are sensitive to strong aromas may not.

Photograph Of Alison Showing Back Of Hand With Almost Naked Lube On It

It’s an important characteristic to note for that reason.

People with an aversion to fragrance should probably not reach for Almost Naked (instead, I’d recommend the unscented Liquid or BioNude, also from Good Clean Love).

The texture of Almost Naked feels thick as it is dispensed from the bottle, largely due to its gel-like consistency, but upon application, it’s more lightweight than you might expect.

Photograph Of Alison Demonstrating Almost Naked's Texture Between Her Fingers

I’ve used this lubricant with a partner (during oral and vaginal sex, without condoms) and with sex toys, and I’ve found that it performs beautifully in all three situations.

During Vaginal Sex

How Almost Naked Performed During Vaginal Sex

During vaginal sex, Almost Naked feels a lot like my body’s natural lubrication, just in greater supply.

One thing I noticed was how it doesn’t run the way many liquid-like lubricants do.

If you’ve used a lube like that before, you’re likely familiar with the sensation of liquid dripping down your buttcrack (and forming a dreaded “wet spot” on the bedding in the process).

Almost Naked doesn’t do that.

Because of its formula and the small applicator on the cap, it’s really difficult to overapply this lube and easy to put it exactly where you want it.

I did not typically require reapplication during vaginal sex — in my experience, once was enough.

That said, your own mileage may vary depending on how much you apply, and how long you’re getting down with your partner.

And the beautiful thing?

My vag smelled like cookies the whole time.

During Oral Sex

How Almost Naked Performed During Oral Sex

Although Almost Naked is edible and smells like vanilla, it doesn’t seem to have a taste — at least not one that I (or any other tester on our team) was able to discern.

It’s strange, in a way — your brain almost “expects” to taste something sweet…but there’s nothing of note.

For this reason, Almost Naked isn’t one I generally reach for specifically for oral sex — if I’m using an edible lube for that purpose, I prefer one with perceptible flavor and sweetness (like Sliquid Swirl or Aloe Cadabra).

It provided silky lubrication with a pleasant enough mouthfeel — but the lack of sweetness left me wanting for something that just wasn’t there.

[Close]
With Sex Toys

How Almost Naked Performed With Sex Toys

When it comes to using this lube with sex toys, it works like a dream — especially if you’re like me and generally prefer silicone lubes, but all your best sex toys are also made from silicone.

To be honest, that’s been the bane of my existence for a long time now.

My preferred toys are all made from silicone, which also means I cannot ever reach for my favorite silicone lube (it’s Überlube, if you’re curious).

That said, Almost Naked is the next best thing because it’s slippery, long-lasting, and won’t damage my most treasured sex toys.

I’ve used this lube with insertable rabbits and a variety of clit sucking toys and have never once been disappointed by its performance.

As I mentioned earlier, Almost Naked’s formula and bottle design allow you to dispense the exact amount of product you need — right where you need it.

Whether you only need a drop or two around the mouth of a clit sucker or an entire line of lube down the length of a phallic sex toy, you never have to worry about overapplication (or too much lube dripping all over your toys).

Alternatives: Almost Naked Vs. Other Good Clean Love Products

Close Up View Of Water-Based Lubricant In Someone's Hands To Display The Label

If you’re looking for an alternative to Almost Naked from the same trusted brand, BioNude is a great option to explore.

Although both are high quality products from Good Clean Love, there are several similarities and differences between two of its most well-loved lubricants — Almost Naked and BioNude.

Almost Naked Vs. BioNude:

  • Almost Naked uses an organic aloe vera base with 7 ingredients, while BioNude has a hydroxyethylcellulose base with 11 ingredients
  • Due to the hydroxyethylcellulose in BioNude, it is much more sperm-friendly compared to Almost Naked
  • Both products are gentle on skin, but BioNude is specifically formulated for sensitive skin
  • Almost Naked has a sweet vanilla scent (courtesy of the natural flavoring added to its formula), while BioNude is unscented
  • Almost Naked has a thick, gel-like formula, but BioNude has a thinner consistency in comparison
  • Almost Naked and BioNude are free from glycerin and parabens and are equally compatable with condoms and all sex toys
  • Both have a vagina-friendly pH level: Almost Naked is 4.1 to 4.5 and BioNude is 3.9 to 4.3
  • Both have an osmolality rating of 250-400 mOsm/kg
  • In my own testing, I found Almost Naked to require fewer reapplications compared to BioNude

Aside from BioNude, Good Clean Love offers other alternatives you might want to check out, too.

Almost Naked Vs. BioGenesis and Liquid:

  • Good Clean Love BioGenesis: Although this lube is specifically crafted for those who are trying to conceive, it comes with an insertable applicator — which is less than sexy. Although you can use the lube without the applicator, its texture is thinner compared to Almost Naked and it’s entirely free from scent or flavor.
  • Good Clean Love Liquid: Liquid is a relatively new product and although it is great, it is not as long-lasting as Almost Naked. Additionally, it has a similar gel-like consistency compared to Almost Naked, but none of the wonderful scent.

Vs. Other Brands

Almost Naked Vs. Other Brands

Two-Panel Image Of Gena And Zoë Holding Two Of The Best Water-Based Lubes: Good Clean Love Almost Naked And Aloe Cadabra

Here’s what I found when comparing Almost Naked to water-based lubes I’ve tried from some other popular brands:

  • Aloe Cadabra: Although it’s a fine lube and one our team loves, Aloe Cadabra is FAR messier compared to Almost Naked, thanks to the large hole in the cap and a rather “gloppy” formula. Overapplication of Aloe Cadabra is practically guaranteed, a characteristic that (if I’m being perfectly honest) greatly annoyed me. That said, Aloe Cadabra does have the benefit of tasting better than Almost Naked — it’s available in more than 10 flavors and it’s actually sweetened (safely, with Stevia).
  • AH! YES WB: I adore this product’s texture because it’s thick and long-lasting, but it is entirely without scent or flavor. Again, Almost Naked has that wonderful vanilla scent I love — and prefer.
  • Sliquid H2O: This is a great water-based lube that feels amazing and performs well, but it (like Liquid) has a runnier texture that is just a lot messier when compared to Almost Naked.
