Difficult to say for sure, but it sounds like BV, by the fact that it is after your period, and smells fishy. Read through the epic thread for advice on what has helped people, but somewhere to start would be to try to address the PH balance after your period. Products like RePHresh are good for that and help a lot of women, but they can cause thrush if you're prone to it (and being a diabetic, I assume you might be). -
Hello ladies. Fellow sufferer here. Tried a bunch of stuff that didn't work like everyone else. So either there is some missing common denominator like Ms. Hearts previously stated, or maybe we are being misdiagnosed. Our chronic BV might be caused by some other health problem not being addressed, which could explain why it comes back. I'm just speculating but I did notice some similiarities between my info and Ms Heart's info.
27 years old. I have never been pregnant, nor am I sexually active at this time. I do wear jeans a lot. I drink socially and my diet is horrible. It consists of mostly carbs. I like bread and desserts, I eat meat, but rarely vegetables. My water intake isn't what it should be at all. I don't smoke at all, I rarely take medications. I do suffer from migraine headaches and allergies. I recently stopped taking birth control, although this problem started long before I started birth control. I do notice my bv symptoms "recharge" after my period is over and the odor and discharge increases over a week or so.
My sexual activity started at age 15 and I've been suffering from this affliction since age 18. I'm healthy but not very physically active. (I don't really exercise much). I don't use soap on my vagina, no douching, I wipe properly. The last sexual encounter I had was protected. It was immediately after I tried one of the home remedies (50/50 mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water followed by a yogurt soaked tampon twice a day along with folic acid b complex and acidophilus). This seemed to have worked for a few days but to no avail. I can't say whether it came back naturally or if it was due to the sex but, like I said before, the sex was protected (no fluids were exchanged).
We can definitely figure this out ladies... There is something we have to be missing here!Comment

I am cured!
I read a post somewhere that summed it up. You have to get your ph right to grow good bacteria. Stop flushing and deuching and stuffing. Here it is.
Go to wallmart.
Buy rephresh pro b pills
Buy acidophilus pills (in vitamen section green bottle yellow lid)
go home.
( if you have alot af discharge or your dry flush with plain water)
put in a acidophilus pill.
Take a pro b pill- orally
the vag pill should compleatly dissolve in 2 hours make sure you chech on it! It will start to come out the next day, I used a little water to help it. The plan is to take a acid. Pill at night- orally now and a pro b in the morning. The pro b takes a week to really start working (says it on the bottle) so faster results with inserting it after you get out the acid pill the next day.
This may take up to a week so don't give up! The acid pill gives your body the ph balance so the pro b can grow. Make sure to take them orally because it will start your "maintinance" stage. (I suspect stuffing a acid pill after your perriod will be in order to.)
results? I have had bv for 15 years, for the first time, I can't "feeel" my vagina. He'll, it may not even be there! No slimy while I'm walking! No embarsing laundry! No smell! And thank God, no burning at all not when I pee, or sit to long, or have sex! All I have is pretty soft pink, no grey coating. Just pink
Thank you God!

I cant find much information about ureaplasma? What are the symptoms? I have been suffering from what the drs tell me iBV for well over a year. Antiobiotics fix the problem for a few weeks and then it always comes back. I have been tested for trich, stds, etc. My symptoms are mainly burning and discharge, but my discharge is more yellowish. Thankfully I dont have any odor. ANy information you could give me would be appreciated.Comment

i think i cured myself
Hi ladies...this is a long post but it may be worth it for some of you..hopefully.
I've been reading about bv now for about 7 months because i had it for that long without going away It started off with mild symptoms, discharge then started to get an odor. I went to the doctor in aug and was perscribed flagyl...i finished the treatment and symptoms went away for a few days then it came back in full force. It is embarressing, luckily i have a bf that is understanding and can see my frustration. I went back to the doctor in sept and was perscribed dalacin, again went away for a few days then came back. I have been trying to concieve now for 7-8 mths and with bv's reoccurances i havent had the best luck..i have been constantly worring about the smell and thinking this could be why i havent got prego yet.
Anyways i decided to do some research and look over my diet. I was a vegetarian for 13 years and since my bf and i wast to have a baby i started to eat chicken and try to eat well. I also have IBS and food doesnt stay in me very long. About 2 weeks ago i cut wheat out of my diet and while doing research on that i noticed articles on candida, whcih has to do with yeast. So i thought maybe this has something to do with my bv. I have been eating tons of plain gluten free yogart with a banana cut up in it cause plain yogart is gross (before i was eating lots of yogart but flavored) and lots of cottege cheese. I know the bacterial cultures in those are supposed to help balance the ph down there. I have not had bv symptoms now for 2 weeks
. I thought maybe a very mild yeast infection, but it has gone away. I did get a little white discharge after sex but no more smell!!!! Things down there seem to be going well. Before i changed my diet i ate a lot of canned soups, cheese, chackers (triscits/wheat thins), pastas (processed foods) and now i have cut out pretty much all that and my bady seems to be adjusting in a great way! Eventually i will eat a bit of wheat and sugar but i think my body was so 'off' from all the sugar that i didnt realize i was eating, wheat and yeast, it was reacting with bv. Bacteria apparently was feeding off sugar and foods that i was eating so i was getting such an overgrowth of the 'bad' bacteria. I'm still not too sure whether the fact that i cut out yeast or wheat or both that i got better....hopefully it stays away!!
If anyone is interested in this or knowing what to eat search 'Candida diet' and what you should and shoud not eat, also a wheat diet.
I really hope you ladies took some time to read this cause i know how frustrating it is..and if you try it i really hope it works!!!
good luckComment

Has anyone been pregnant and suffered from chronic BV I have diganosed with BV 6X
I am 22 weeks pregnant and I have had BV 6 times plus yeast infections. High risk pregnancy. Each time I get prescribed antibiotics (clindamycin, flagyl) and then yeast infection and then I take monistat for the yeast infection. My doctors are worried about more resistant bacteria developing. I do everything they say. I don't wear underwear when I sleep. Unscented soap. wipe front to back. Keep area clean and dry. No sex. No cleansing during the shower. They say the hormones messing with my PH level and making my vajaajay more basic which helps the bad bacteria flourish.
I have just started started fem dophilus and I taking it while I am taking my antibiotics. Then, I will continue taking it. Two a day. Any other suggestions would be helpful. I found out about fem dophilus through this website. I was eating activia yogurt and told my doctor and he said that would be fine. It was not helping. Bifidus regularis is a completely different bacteria. Some blogs presented evidence that suggest that it may disturb vaginal flora while making digestive problems better.
I am worried about taking so many antibiotics while I am pregnant, but I lost the first baby at 22 weeks due sepsis and ascending infection (bacterial vaginosis) . I almost died. This time... I have a cerclage and I check my cervix every two weeks to make sure it is not dialating and I am being treated for my symptomatic BV.
Can someone help me? Has this happened to anyone else? What was the outcome? Can you give me some advice?
I am generally not a blogger, but I am desperate. I have never posted on a blog before, but I hoping that someone will relate to me or have empathy and give me some info that will help.
Thank youComment
