the Vogel Molkosan still working for me i use it 2x a week and right after sex -
has anyone tried...?
I came across a fruit called ladyfinger that has been used to treat bacterial vaginosis. Has anyone tried it before? I have read through the thread, I didn't see it mentioned. I'm not even sure of where to buy it.
I'm still trying to figure out how often I should insert the probiotics vaginally..it's been two and half months since I have had to deal with an odor, but I'm not sexually active right now either.
Maybe someone has some insight to this...
If lactobacillus are bacteria that require oxygen to survive then how do they live without oxygen stuffed in a capsule?
If they have to be kept cool in fridge to protect them..and then they are ingested/inserted into the body that is 98.6 degrees..
I'm just trying to figure out how to support/help them colonize.
I try to keep up to date with the lastest research of probiotics so if anyone comes across anything please post it or message me.
The last I had seen vaginal probiotics were in phase 2 in clinical trials.Comment

As for me, I have not been able to completely cure my BV but for the past year I have been sick with abdominal pain and lots of stomach issues. After a year of testing and tons of ultrasounds, and MRI and an endoscopic ultrasound I have found out: A: That I have 3 benign liver tumors and one benign pancreatic tumor, and B: That I have Celiac Disease (a severe incapability of ingesting any gluten). Since cutting out all gluten from my diet and giving it time I have found that my BV has seriously reduced. I have a feeling that the longer I continue with this the better it will get. I was suffering from severe malabsorption so I was getting almost no nutrition from my food because of the celiac disease so my immune system was really suffering. I also discovered that if I apply aloe vera to my external vaginal area after sex it is really soothing and reduces my BV like reactions.Comment

Whew...
I am glad that I stumbled across this site. I really thought something was wrong with me, because I suffered with BV off and on (more on than off)! After reading just about every post on this site regarding BV, I decided to try a few suggestions. What has worked so far for me (knock on wood, and thank GOD) are the Rephresh capsules, acidophilus probiotics, Vitamin C, Folic Acid, and 2 cranberry pills daily. The odor went away within a day. I have been on this regimine for about three days, and now my period is on. I am still taking my pills mentioned above in hopes that when my period goes off, I won't have that funky smell. I just want to be back to normal. I want my discharge to be normal without any nasty odor. When I have BV my discharge is thick and pasty in consistency, whereas when I am normal it's not. I will keep everyone updated on the progress. Good luck everyone and keep us posted.Comment

My story
I am very thankful for this site. My journey with BV began last year when my boyfriend of 6 months and I started having unprotected sex. I had asked him to get tested for STD's prior to that, and he got the usual syphyllis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, and herpes testing and everything came back negative.
Within a couple of weeks, I knew something just wasn't "right". I was irritated and red.My vagina felt "dry". My boyfriend complained that his skin burned after sex.. Over the next few months, I started having an odor especially after sex and with my period. Finally the last straw was a bad odor before my period even started. I went to my gyne and saw his nurse practitioner. She did a DNA probe culture. It came back Gardnerella, Atopobium vaginae, and Ureaplasma urealyticum. She gave me doxycycline for both me and my boyfriend and Metrogel for me. I told her that I had read that Atopobium was resistant to Metrogel and she said that we were going to try this first. (This put me off a little because she really didn't even know very much about Atopobium and didn't seem interested in reading the literature that I brought her).
We both completed treatment and I went back a month later to get re-cultured. I was better but I was 100% sure that I still had something. My culture came back Atopobium again..So she prescribed Clindamycin. I also talked to her about some of the things that I had learned about controlling vaginal PH and probiotics. She looked at me and said "WE only use EVIDENCED BASED medicine and there is NO evidence that yogurt, probiotics or any of that stuff cures BV". Okaayy. So I decided right then that she was an idiot and I am going to do all the things that I have read about, lol.
I took the Clindamycin, bought Fem-Dophilus supplement, RePhresh Gel, and lots of yogurt.
I used yogurt vaginally twice. It gave me terrible abdominal cramps, so I stopped that. I used RePhresh gel every 3 days except with my period. I take the Fem-Dophilus every day. Sometimes I use it vaginally too. I just empty the contents of the capsule on a finger that is wet and apply it that way. I eat yogurt at least once a day and sometimes I take an Acidophilus probiotic. I have also used a diluted hydrogen peroxide vaginal rinse about once a week. I sleep with nothing on from my waist down and haven't soaked in the bathtub for months.
You know what? I am BETTER! There is NO bad odor at all anymore, even during my period. I am pink and healthy looking now.
There is NO DOUBT in my mind that all of this is 100% sexually transmitted!!!
I was routinely cultured earlier in the year before I met this boyfriend and was 100% clean. I did not have BV until after we stopped using condoms.
I know we have cured the Ureaplasma but since he was not treated for the Gardnerella and Atopobium, I am sure that he is still a carrier of this... I am afraid to stop my treatment because so far it is working and I feel "normal" again...
One thing about the Rephresh gel, it clumps up and tends to be a little messy, but for me, it is worth it. I feel that it makes the vagina in-hospitable to anaerobic flora like the Atopobium. I have backed off on the RePhresh gel and usually use it just after sex to get my Ph back to where it should be.
So, my advice to anyone with BV. Get a DNA probe culture and make sure it is for ureaplasma's and other organisms. Get treated and get re-cultured to make sure they are gone. In the meantime, get the vaginal flora and Ph back to where it should be and hopefully you will be able to keep it under control ...

help me someone i am in !
I was diagnosed with BV in June of last year. Although, I have a suspicion that I had it much longer than that, but the symptoms weren't always there, and they never noticed anything during a pap smear, but i would get that odor from time to time...
anyway, i've tried all sorts of antibiotics, metro gel. I did a 3 month metro gel thing until december, which did not work. why did they never tell me about the white clumpy discharge with the metrogel, like that's any better?
so i just stopped going to the doc, and have been trying to do other things, acidophilou, garlic vitamins, hyrdrogen peroxide douche, and soaked tampon.
nothing seems to be working!!
does anyone know if the rephresh capsules work? or fem dophilus? i've heard things about boric acid capsules, but that just sounds scary.
i don't actually have much of an odor most of the time, but have awful discharge, and just want this to be gone!!!Comment

I have this herbal medicine book and it says you can wrap a tiny cloth around a glove of garlic and keep it in you for a night.
Haven't tried it, so have no clue if it works.
The only thing I did try was a mix of garlic and yoghurt, I just washed myself with it, didn't stick it in. I was on antibiotics at the same time so i can't tell how much it helped.Comment

I wanted to write an update on the VH Essentials BV Treatment that I tried (bought from CVS OTC.) This only ended up giving me temporary relief, just like the antibiotics I've been given from the doctors office. 2 weeks later and it comes back. (but at least its OTC and no doctor's visit or prescription required) I thought maybe I could do some type of regimen where I use 1 inset a week to keep the BV at bay- but before I was able use another insert i started my period and the BV immediately came back. I'm becoming very depressed having to deal with this and have little hope for a cure. I feel as though something upset my little eco-system and for whatever reason it can't get back to normal. I've changed my soaps and detergents and sleep without underwear at night. Doesn't seem to make a different. Hydrogen peroxide rinses seem to help keep it at bay for a few days but I can tell it's still there. I've tried the flagy and the gel with no luck and even though I have no faith in doctors when it comes to this particular problem, I am trying for the last time to go to the Gyno tomorrow for help. I don't have insurance so this is of course financially painful. Hopefully this doctor can help- I've never seen him before and maybe thats a good thing. We'll see what he prescribes, and I think I'll scream if its not something new. Seriously I'll SCREAM. That visit will cost me a ton and so will the meds but I'm going to try ONE LAST TIME. I read a post on another site that a lady had gone to the doctor and was given medication, and while she was on it she started taking probiotics daily and folic acid as well as she started drinking A TON of water daily, more than the recommended daily amount and that seemed to keep the BV away, so that is what I will do as well. Cuz why not? water is good for you and its worth a try to try to flush out your system. Seems like it needs to be done. Today I'm so fed up with this I can barely think straight. If anyone knows of a cure- not a daily/ weekly regimen - please post it because I'm losing my mind. This is the first time I've posted on this forum, but I've read through many of the hundreds of pages of posts and I understand completely what you are all going through.
The first time I was diagnosed with BV was about 2-3 years ago, I was given ONE (or maybe it was 2) pills, I don't recall the name of it- but it did the trick and it went away. It didn't come back for at least a year and a half, UNTIL I went back to sleeping with the guy I had been sleeping when I had first been diagnosed with BV- and of course it returned (even though the doctor swore it wasn't sexually transmitted). They gave me the flagyl pills, it went away for a couple of months and then of course it came back. So I cut that guy off completely and figured that would solve my problems. It didn't. A couple months later it came back- it didn't make sense to me that it was sexually transmitted, but maybe I was just sensitive to whatever soap the guy was using? Maybe? I dont know. Well I got the Flagyl Pills again, and it went away.
Well I haven't messed with that guy since then but I have still had BV about 4 or 5 times in 2009- January 2010. That just ridiculous. I've taken Flagyl multiple times and the metronidazole gel twice. Nothing has worked. These past couple months I've taken the meds and then been BV free for a week or 2 before it returned again. Well I got sick of taking the medications prescribed by the doctors because they clearly weren't working for me. Plus I don't have health insurance so I can't afford to go to the gyno for a visit or pay $85 for the metronidazole gel.
So I tried something new- and I'm keeping my fingers crossed because so far its helped. I noticed the BV was coming back a couple weeks ago and I knew I wasn't going to get another refill of the medication so instead I went and got the rephresh pro-b vitamins, some hydrogen peroxide, and the VH Essentials BV Treatment- Homeopathic Rime-Release Vaginal insert (From CVS- about $25 dollars). Day 1 I started taking the pro-b vitamins, "cleaned" out my vag with some hydrogen peroxide to get the worst out and help the good bacteria multiply. Then at bed I used the first (of 6) inserts. on Day 2 I could already tell it was working, so I continued the next 5 days of inserts that come in the box while taking the rephresh pro-b vitamins everyday and its been over a week and I feel completely clean. Not only is the BV gone, but I can smell the NORMAL smell again. Of course this has happened with every medication i've taken then its always returned, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I'm going to continue to take the rephresh pro biotic vitamins everyday to maintain a healthy vagina. Hopefully this keeps everything balanced.
My theory is this: something threw my balance off and although the medications were able to get rid of the BV, it wasn't able to keep my vagina balanced, so thats why it kept coming back, which is why I'm taking these vitamins, in hopes that it can actually do what the bottle says, which is to maintain the balance and flora of a healthy vagina.
I definitely suggest this treatment.
1 rephresh pro-b vitamin daily (bought at Walmart- or any drug store)
hydrogen peroxide
VH Essentials BV Treatment- Homeopathic Rime-Release Vaginal insert (1 insert at night for 6 nights) (Can find at CVS and Rite Aid I believe)
I will keep you updated on whether or not it returns, so far so good though and it started working immediately.
Good luck everyone!Comment
